The Welsh and Ryan Giggs have an agreement in place. He doesn't acknowledge their existence and they don't acknowledge his.

Thing is, Bellamy. Saunders, Rush and Bale were all better for Wales than Giggs was. Would be weird to include him.

Went to my first match in the early 70s, so for me:-

Team.jpg

Debated about Reina most of all, but for a few seasons around 2007-2009 he was the best keeper in the league for me, in terms of ability he was above both Clemence and Grob, both legends and the only other two in consideration. Shame his time here fizzled out the way it did. Honourable mentions to the likes of Beardsley, Fowler and Rush. Either Rush or Fowler could have been on this list if it weren't for Suarez. Complete c*** he might have been but there isn't a team in this country for who he wouldn't be on a best XI list had he played for them.

Older folk will make a case for individual players from our past like Ted MacDougal / Phil Boyer / Harry Redknapp in the 70s, and Ian Bishop / John Willams / Shaun Teale / Luther Blissett in the 80s.

I saw Luther Blissett on Tuesday evening help stretcher off a goalkeeper who had broken his ankle. #nonleague He's involved at Burnham these days.

Torquay United, since 1997

Neville Southall
Andy Gurney - Wayne Thomas - Alex Watson - Paul Gibbs
Jamie Ward - Eunan O'Kane - Alex Russell - Kevin Hill
David Graham - Rodney Jack

You could get a reasonably famous XI out of players who have pulled on a Torquay shirt in the last 30 odd years, all have top level or major tournament experience. 5 starting their careers, 2 finishing it and 4 loanees whilst youngsters.

Neville Southall
Adam Smith
Matt Elliott
Darren Moore
Steve Bould
Chris Waddle
Eunan O'Kane
Jamie Ward
Lee Sharpe
Dean Sturridge
Jason Roberts

Although Lomas, Johnson and Wallace were a bit shit or a bit injured, they're still amongst the biggest 'names' to have played for us.

So, another Old-timer like me

Wait....no Kevin Keegan in your list. How dare you :D

It was a choice between him and Dalglish. Which I'm sure you'll agree is no choice at all.

Not sure how old you are Jase, but no Paul McGrath? Up there with the best defenders for me, which considering his off field problems is quite amazing. Having said that, Mellberg and Laursen were superb together. Kyle Walker was at Villa on loan for a bit, is that cheating for the right back slot?

Walker would be cheating, only had him for 6 months, though he was the best right back we've had that I've seen. I was only born in 92, and didn't start watching properly until the early-mid 2000's.

Since I started watching around the treble season:

Reina; Arbeloa, Hyypiä, Carragher, Aurelio; Mascherano, Gerrard, Alonso; Suarez, Owen, Torres.

4-3-3 so shoot me. We've never had any fantastic wingers and I'm not as old as Pagnell.
