Whilst it's a bit grubby it's not the high-level corruption the Telegraph wanted to imply. Calls for him to be sacked are certainly a bit hysterical. It'll blow over in a couple of days.
I think it's borderline, but I don't expect the FA to sack him unless more comes out. The FA were incredibly naive to employ him in the first place given the Panorama documentary he featured in back in 2006.

My level of giveafuckness here barely registers.

As for him keeping the job, as usual in these things the FA will do what is in their interest to do. If England currently had a manager they wanted rid of but doing so would cost shit loads in compensation, this would be used as the reason to give him the boot. As it is, they have a manager who has only just come in and it's not in anyone's interest to get rid of him at this point. So the FA will make all the right noises about being disappointed and he's been spoken to etc. etc. but in the end he'll still be the England manager. Doing what is right (whatever that may be) won't come into it.

You could remove that last word and it would be more accurate. No nation does national footballing fuck ups like we do.

Made this just last week. Was gonna save it for the next doping in football thread to impress mnb089mnb, but works just as well here, IMO. Prescient and prophetic.

Oh my God, it's really opening up for Pardew isn't it? Alan Pardew must be next in line.

Fulfilling his destiny is just inevitable, wouldn't have guessed it would come so early though.

Is Nigel Pearson implicated by this investigation? Strange for Derby to suspend him a few hours before a league match.

Pardew, not you Benji, you know I love ya

Pardew at England vs Pardew at Palace...which is worse?

I would love love love if he got the England job. Big Sam should be sacked, he's not just telling the truth about agents circumventing third party laws, he's clearly advocating a way around them. Never should have got the job in the first place with his past.

Oh and  to the guy who said that the media uncovering this was worse than what Sam actually did/said. The media should not give one fuck if what it uncovers negatively impacts the national football team.

What are they trying to gain? Doing their job by uncovering corruption and bribery, perhaps?

They're not uncovering corruption though, they're manufacturing it. It amounts to entrapment. If you offer someone a few hundred grand to shake a few hands, make a keynote speech, and talk about stuff that's already going on and legal, then of course they're going to take it. And even then, throughout the 'sting' he maintains that all of it must be run past the FA before he agrees to anything.

The Telegraph's investigations team would have been given a tip off he was getting involved in this business before launching their operation which, although dodgy, was the only way of obtaining the story. And given Big Sam is the England boss and the most prominent FA figure there's a clear public interest in it.

What evidence are you basing this assertion on?

EG: Big Sam has got previous and threatened to sue the BBC over a Panorama show that accused him in 2006. He never ended up taking action mysteriously.

Sam gone.
Gareth Southgate interim manager effective immediately. According to Sky/the Sun/Talk Sport.

All he's said on third party ownership is that you employ the agent and then get a cut of the agent fee every time the player is transferred or signs a new contract. So instead of a cut of the transfer fee which you would in a third party ownership arrangement, you get a cut of the agent fee instead

I'm not clued up on agents in football but isn't this sort of thing common practice anyway? Not all football agents are self employed are they? A lot of agents work on behalf of companies don't they?

The more I look at it and read it, it isn't even dodgy. All seems legit and above board but just greedy.

As for the other stuff, he even says he will have to pass it by the FA and when they pressed further on other matters he wouldn't talk about it.

As for the stuff on Hodgson, Neville and the England team it isn't news worthy.

A shame, but not unsurprising. Not exactly a great list of potential replacements either, what a mess.
