Our home forum is asking fans what was the biggest away following you ever saw at The Shay. Obviously they all saw the 2000 Chorley fans that came to the promotion final in 2017 but some remember Stockport bringing 3000 in the '80's and others still go back to 7000 Man U fans who bought tickets for the Watney Cup tie in 1971, although nobody counted how many piled in after they kicked down the main gates and took over the Skircoat Stand. There were 5000 tickets sold to Man city fans in 1980, but there were probably more than that from Huddersfield on the preceding Boxing Day a week earlier, when it was pay on the gate. There are no records or estimates for how many came from Stoke or Spurs for the FA Cup ties in 1953 (there are a few Shaymen still alive who were there), when more than 35,000 attended at both games, but I'd expect they were well into 4 figures.
