In the game against Portsmouth last week we went long far too much, please tell me we're playing it on the floor more this week.

Welcome to the Championship BOYZ!!

Poor first half, much better 2nd. We'll need to play better if we're looking to push top half but not a bad housewarming party!

Lee Johnson has shown flexibility in tactics before, and his substitutions seem to effect the game in a positive way for us. Long may it continue.

Absolutely buzzing after that. Only made it to the Gate with 5 minutes to kick off after travelling back from Cornwall at 9:15am this morning. Thank fuck I made it!

Oh and that's why Bobby needs to start every game.

Will be interesting to see what the Wigan fans thought of us.

How did Tammy do?
Changed the game when he came on, he was credited with a goal, but I'm not sure how. I was certain that Hordur Magnusson scored it and it's pretty incredible that those 2 got mixed up

I've just got home and have to say that was a game of 2 halves. First half we were very poor, Wigan weren't great but were the better side in the first half, second half we were much improved and Tammy Abraham was a constant thorn in the Wigan defence.

Special mentions for a few City players:

Kodjia- The worst performance I've seen from him, far too selfish today, though he nearly bagged a goal at the end.
Tomlin- As with Kodjia, the worst I've seen him, not that he was selfish, he just didn't affect the game much at all.
Magnusson- Very shaky in the first half but grew into the game, by the end of the second half he was looking very impressive.
Abraham- As said above, from the minute he came on until the end he was causing Wigan problems at the back, was also credited with a goal, though I think that'll be changed.
O'Dowda- The opposite of Magnusson, was our best player in the first half, playing on the right, but despite this we tried to do everything on the otherside of the pitch. Faded away after he got a clobbering late in the first half.

Looked very good in the 20 mins he came on. Strong in the air, pacey, great touch and link up play. Didn't look at all out of his depth or outmatched physically. On the basis of that he'll be pushing Kodjia very hard for a starting spot, if they're not played together

LJ said Tomlin suffered a dead leg in the warm up, so that may explain his performance today.

He did get taken out by Brownhill during the warm up, that's probably the cause of it, at least it's nothing serious

Magnusson's just tweeted: "Doesn't matter who scores the goals, the fact is we won the match and our defence was not terrified cuz no one was on fire"

I love him already

Was good, not outstanding, but we seemed to try and bypass the midfield in the first half.
Very good corner deliveries though, far better than the one Freeman tried

Solid, very composed on the ball. Think him and Pack made a good partnership

Of the other new guys, O'Dowda looked very sharp. Quick, direct and not easily knocked off the ball either. Final ball didn't happen for him today but promising signs. On the other hand, Brownhill looked a little lightweight and didn't get in the game at all really, while Magnusson and Flint's partnership could do with a bit of work (few moments of miscommunication, and don't know where Magnusson was going for their goal, wandering about in no man's land) but hopefully that will come with gametime.

What a second half from the boys. Thought o dowda was different class in the first half, other good performances from Bryan, pack and flint.

Tough one to take that!

Bristol fully deserved the win although that doesn't make it any easier to bear. First half was even, very good goal, Yanic proving how vital he'll be for us this season with his pace. Grigg did well with no support all game great through ball to set Yanic off for the goal. Second half we got absolutely battered! Johnson changed it and Caldwell didn't respond, we sat back and invited pressure rather than gambling and going for the second goal. Not having signed a new right back and striker absolutely killed us as well. We had to take our young RB off as he was shattered and getting overrun only for Daniels to come on and have a shocker himself. We were playing Colclough up front at the end as well when we need to find a goal.

Bristol had a second striker on the bench who came on and made the difference while we didn't have anyone. Thought our whole defence and Bogdan played well but our midfield was poor, Perkins and Power have some convincing to do whether they can make the step up especially with Brannagan coming in next week and we also missed Powell. Overall though Caldwell has to take responsibility, should have gone for it second half and got his subs wrong while Johnson got his spot on.

New stand looks incredible by the way, great atmosphere generated by the whole ground, O'Donnell was a bit of a prat at the end of the game but he's bound to still feel a bit bitter after getting binned off for a 40 year old. Based on that showing I think we'll be fine as long as we get that striker and right back in. As for Bristol I think top half is very realistic, Abraham looks good quick but also very tall which made a massive impact. Tomlin did nothing all game.

Just giving it some to the fans after the second goal (no provocation from our side during the game), can forgive him though, heat of the moment old club etc.

Fair enough, genuinely missed it, but I can picture him doing it. He has shown himself in the past to be incredibly passionate and I can see a mix of passion and perhaps frustration/bitterness towards his time at Wigan leading to something like that.

Took a while for us to get going (fans and team), and you were the better side in the first half, but we clicked in the second half and it always felt a matter of time until we scored. Also from within the South Stand (opposite you lot) seemed very loud once everyone joined in- even with most people staying sat in their seat.

We were quite poor in the first half, and while I do like Pack and GON, neither of them offered any support to our forward players.

Second half was alot better, especially after the changes. Abraham looks a player and Reid offers that support to the forwards. I think Wigan will be fine but they brought it on themselves really, offered nothing at all once they scored.

It's a good way to win, coming from behind and scoring late on. Should bode well for the rest of the season.

Good to have football back!

Really enjoyed that. Couldnt believe it when making the walk from Winterstoke Road. It felt like I was at an away game. We really do have a wonderful home to be proud of now.

The football itself wasnt the best. We clearly have an exciting team with lots of talent and our build up play was quite impressive but some of the crossing and set pieces were poor. Really liked the look of O'Dowda, Hodor and Abraham though. Agreed with the formers man of the match award. I can see the comparisons with Albert. We arent going to set the division alight this season, but we can expect a solid year of good progress and some exciting individual moments.

I do have to say however that I was really dissapointed in the lack of atmosphere and passion for most of the game. OK there wasnt too much to get excited about for the first 60 minutes or so but it just feels a shame. Our club has worked really hard to deliver a wonderful stadium and an exciting team and the grand opening had 16000 people sat on their arses in absolute silence for 80 minutes. The only noise being from a young child who got a round of applause everytime he tried to get things going. We woke up after the equaliser but come on guys. We can do better than this!

Overall a geat day though and lots of positives.

Im guessing its like that at most grounds in the country these days David. Just took me by surprise as like you say I havent been down for a couple of years. Also, my last game was at Red Star Belgrade where they go mental for 90 minutes!

The atmosphere didn't sound terrible on the radio, although I missed the first 30 minutes of it.

Agree with Luke about Ashton Gate, seeing it last week in the flesh and pictures from yesterday, hard to believe it's ours.

Christ if you thought it was bad yesterday you should have seen it at every single game last season. I just accept it for what it is now.

I thought it was good yesterday but I guess that's an indication of how bad it generally is now. It's the same all over the country.

I thought it was one of the best of recent times in the Atyeo.

That says it all then because I was sat in the old dolman A block and heard nothing from the atyeo all game. The Wigan fans I heard loudly and clearly though (apart from the last 10 minutes funnily enough!)

I don't dispute what you're saying at all. It's funny, sound doesn't seem to carry at all well across or out from the Atyeo, didn't hear the Wigan fans once yesterday. Admittedly I was in the toilet when they scored.

I'd agree with that, though I only every heard the Wigan fans clearly at the "na na na na na na" bit of the Will Grigg chant. That being said I'm in the South Stand this season, so about as far away from them as you get.
