Ah, that n word again. The Premier League had no novelty factor for us. Yet we were selling out away game after away game for over twenty seasons with ticket prices £35 - £55 a pop, at grounds we visited every year. And with consistently one of the worst away records.

Or disproved by the 10,000 that travelled to Cardiff, Spurs and Wolves in the space of thirteen days just after Christmas. Grounds we've visited before or indeed frequented - in the case of the latter two. Likewise the 5000 we'll take to Wigan, like every time we play them, the full allocations at Blackburn, Fulham, Reading and QPR, like every time we play them, makes the novelty talk nonsensical and not at all based in fact. We've proven ourselves over numerous seasons, at the same grounds, paying higher ticket prices than in the Championship.

As for St James', it's a stadium we never travel particularly well at. I believe we've had one Saturday 3pm there in the last decade; the majority being Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The 2000 that travel to Newcastle points towards consistency of support; no more and no less than our average at SJP over the last ten years. Nothing to do with novelty.

Put simply, we've got good away support, and have had for many years. That's all there is to it.

Pretty sure I remember some sub 2,000 Villa followings at The Valley in our PL days.

True but at least it makes you appreciate it more, 6 years in non league before this season makes being in League 2 feel great to be honest, although being 4-0 down at Crewe yesterday after half an hour wasn't the greatest feeling!
Thankfully my lad has only ever known us in non league (he's 10) so for him this is the highest League he has ever known us be in so he is totally hooked on GTFC and thinks it's great, and seeing his happy face at Wembley last year was one of the best feelings I've ever had in my life so even though it was 6 years of torture, it ended with one

Good post that, sums up how most football fans feels, (with the exception of the elite few clubs) remember when you got relegated to the conference (think it was called that then) reading an article from a Grimsby fan about how he hated everything to do with football (put a little stronger) ended up with the last sentence along the lines of F ing hate it, always will, but roll on next season when we start again. Wish I had saved the article summed up football fans everywhere. For most of us it is all the shit that makes the odd good times so much sweeter.

Did you even read the article, you mug?

Of course it can be argued that in League One you get larger allocations than in the Premier League.
It should be noted that there have been many times at Albion and Villa when demand for tickets has out-weighed the amount available.

And history suggests that both clubs would be at least a match for Wolves if they ever found themselves back in their position.

9 of those 15 games though you have only got the small allocation due to not being able to sell out however it was rediculously overpriced so fully understand why. I'm not too sure what the argument is anyway all the villa fans admit leeds have better away support.

edit. I got it wrong with my post and this was a shit season in terms of our away support. I was thinking about another season when our ticket office kept getting it wrong but yeah the proof is right there that this season was poor. Our last few seasons in the prem our away support was the worst I've known it.

you maybe right. Remember us near enough having the full end for a midweek game mind.

I can only recall one midweek game between us at our place and I was in Cyprus so you could very well be right.

There may have been a couple of Monday night games in early 2000s actually but fucked if I can remember them.

I am not interested in the Wolves part, it shows your away attendance's and they are very very average (for that season) and even when they used to publish Premier league away followings on the net i never noticed yours to be any more than average then either. For the record i like the Villa and Newcastle posters being on here, this site has been dead for years and they have livened it up.

i agree about wolves being average. Their away support was far from impressive in the premier league considering it was a big thing for them getting promoted to the prem. They failed to sell out twice at ours in the prem but that was down to the price of tickets(£41)

ps, a lot will disagree about the last part of your post :bg:

Newcastle have sold out 2700 for Brighton, midweek game. They have not sold out at Norwich tonight though, with around 1800 making the journey. This is what separates them from say Leeds who would have sold out Norwich if they were top two. we would have sold out Norwich too imo, we took just under 1600 whilst in shit form a week before xmas. They were 500 short of selling out Wigan for a midweek game too just before xmas which again I think we would have sold out if we were top two. Credit to Newcastle though they have to travel a lot further than us so you need to take that into account.

"Have".

Would have.

We have sold out Villa a week on Saturday. 2400. We've asked for more but apparently it's up to the Safety Officer. That'll be a no then.

sssssh don't tell walkley owl. Personally I think it's all bollocks, even for clubs like Cardiff and Leeds who had a bad reputation from years gone by. Derby should be getting the full like everyone else should be.

It's a good 2 hours further each way from Newcastle than from Birmingham though.

As others and even yourself have said, it's an extra 200 miles further than Leeds would travel and even more compared to the midlands. You're giving me ifs and buts.

10 hour round trip by train to both Brighton and Norwich for ourselves.

Haha you not gone?
No chance mate, I'm going down to the sports bar at Ashton Gate and watching it on the big screen with a few pals.

Expecting a couple of thousand down there if it's any consolation for our wank following tonight

Sold out our 1100 down here tonight not bad for us. I don't think I'd be going to leeds either at £35 a pop considering how shit you are at the min too.

that's why I'd never put our support above yours because of the miles you have to do. You do have an advantage of having an extra 20k At home games which gives more people the chance of going away. Just find it odd how Newcastle fans can take the piss that we will only take 1500+ to your place but you can't sell out Norwich in the form you are in.

its a cracking following but it is the game of the season so you were always going to sell that one out.
