I think the name 'Birmingham' maybe makes the team sound bigger than it actually is. Holding the 2nd largest city in England as a name has always seemed as to make Birmingham sound like a big club to me, if it had a name similar to Aston Villa (a suburb of Birmingham) it may not sound as big. That's not a dig by the way, just a view I always had.

Aren't we the only team to achieve back to back football league promotions twice?
If any other team has done it feel free to put me right.

A few have.

Southend (once in 1990-92 then again in 2005-07)
Cambridge (once in the 70s, again in the early 90s)
Grimsby (ditto Cambridge, they've also had two double relegations!)
Hull (once in the 80s then again in 2004-06)

I think Bury have done it twice at some point too but can't be bothered to go back and check. Nobody can match us and Wolves though, three relegations in a row! :D

I don't class us as a 'big club' we are a second tier mid table all day long, we've spent periods lower and spent periods higher but our level is where we are now.

There are a small amount of big hitters in this league, Leeds-Forest-Wolves-Wednesday, and there are some undoubted smaller fish in the big pond, MK-Brentford-Rotherham, aside from them I'd say the rest of us are a much of a muchness.

When you say 'us' do you mean Small Heath Alliance? Decent lot they are!

Why the hell are people putting the minnow Sheffield club above the likes of Brentford and Mk?

Perhaps slightly bizarrely, but I disagree.I have always considered Blues as a big club.....along with Wolves and them lot up the road although all three behind Villa. If you look at the 70s you were the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th best-supported team in the country (attendance figures). Barring 2010 and then the League Cup win, you haven't had much success on the pitch in the last decade or two (and more than us). What does surprise me a bit is that you have lost "about" 5,000 since you were last in the second tier.....up to around 2002 (currently around 16,000 and then around 21,000).

It would certainly be interesting to see how Blues would have fared over the last years with, hmmmm shall we say, more conventional owners.

Banter aside, and don't tell El Guapo, but there's little to choose between our clubs in terms of "size".

I will do the same if you continue to refer to me as 'she', inaccurately call me a market seller and a scruffy c***.

The hypocrisy is incredible

If you find being called a market seller, a woman or a scruff offensive you need to man up, however I find being labelled racist abhorrent.

In recent years they are to be fair, in terms of fanbases though, there's not a lot in it.

Bolton and Blackburn have all had lengthy spells in the top flight recently (Blackburn won the thing) and without looking, I think both have won more than us since we were all founded. Burnley and ourselves are pretty much identical in size but they have had more post-war success and two recent stints in the top flight.

Lets face it, we've been shit for about 50 years and it's surprising that our crowds are similar to the other three.

Let's not start this conversation please, historically wise there isn't that much in it, fan base wise PNE aren't even close....but I suppose as there are no donkey lashers on here, a bit of banter might be interesting

Other than the first season back following a relegation when you're bound to retain a few 'Prem fans', Bolton get gates between 14-16k at this level, going back to the mid-90's. Whereas ours are pretty consistently 13k-14k.

Bigger crowds than us, unsurprisingly considering you have been in the top tier a lot recently but lets not make out there is a huge gulf.

Pretty much this, you get the big fish at the top, although in the last ten years or so only Wolves have done anything notable out of those four.

We're the biggest club in Lancashire, no doubt.

I'd put us 6th-8th overall in the Championship.
