Get Mills back and the drinking club is virtually reunited. I’m assuming James Gray has or will be signing shortly too.

York probably have a bigger budget than most proper Conference sides to be spending this much.

Josh Hare has turned down a new contract with us and left. Offered a bit going forward but not much at the back, so not bothered much.

I know details of a signing for Salford that will be announced shortly - the figures involved are eye watering, more than I've ever heard of at this level. It would even blow teams like Tranmere and Orient out of the water.

What is the biggest fee ever paid by a non-league club?

Weird that is, because I've heard the exact same just today. Also that they were paying most players £600 a week in the past few years but they will be now offering £2k a week.

If they get the right manager in they could smash this league to pieces.

Jack Redshaw was on about 2k last season though he was their top earner.

Also Gary Neville and co bringing in a player with no manager in place? Interesting tactic :pond:

They aren't paying a transfer fee for this player - just a bumper signing on fee and extortionate wages. And it's unfair to say who this is on my source, because I was told in confidence. My point was less about the player in question (some will have heard of him, some probably not, as with any other non-league player), but more about the money I think Salford might be about to throw around. If they're paying this for this player, then MasterD is right and their budget might be around the £2mn/£3mn mark.

A good signing for Port, but given he's been linked with NL sides, a bit surprised he's decided to drop a level.
Southport are this season’s moneybags NLN side - they brought in a load of players on good money under Davies but the options were limited during the season.

Very tough league to be in, clubs have to be lucky and savvy to survive no matter how tinpot or non tinpot they are. Real skill in directorship these days in this league as clubs coming up, like Salford, have the ability to bankrupt about 18 of the 24 if they even tried to get close to competing.

Our club ha e been really well run for a while and have some decent income streams that allow us to try to compete here, not bankrolled small crowds but really well run. Added to that a massive local population where we sit at the top of the tinpot pyramid, and you have a situation that helps. Don't know if full time will help us unless we get more cash but competing with the like of Salford would likely bankrupt us in a matter of weeks!

I'm talking £2k as a base average across the squad. Star players on more.

May well add up based on what I heard Salford are offering Michael Woods (2 or 3 times what he's on here)

Salford are paying Whitehead a mere EIGHT times what we were paying him last season and over double what he was paid at Wigan. He’s a good player, but that’s sheer lunacy in financial terms - he would have signed for Salford for less than half the money they’ve given him!

Well that sure makes it hard to keep your best players! That's probably more than he was on at West Ham, never mind at Wigan and us!

Class player, and i'm truly gutted we couldn't keep him, but don't blame him whatsoever for that. My worry is that some of the others could also now be tempted. I.e Fitzpatrick, Durrell, Hancox, Evans etc

To be fair the "8 times what we paid him" is inflated by the fact we had him for ridiculously cheap as Wigan had paid him off. Gutted as he'd definitely do a job for us next season but did kinda expect him to go (albeit not to a team below us!).

That is true, but I still can’t think any other team in the NL will be paying £2k+/week for a midfielder.

Wouldn't surprise me. Only ones I guess that could match his football and job wages in one. Not much we can do about this so not even any point being annoyed! What will be will be, best of luck to them if they can get this sort of money.
