Shows how daft horses can be. Sire de Grugy fell at a normal fence and decided to have a go at the Chair for fun.
Decent run by Cue Card finishing 2nd.

First Monday meeting of the season at Windsor, can only mean one thing ..... Hannon/Hughes multiples.

These bets tend to be quite profitable for me most seasons and hopefully they will be again in Hughesy's last season.

Kicked things off with an ew L15

13.40 Fit @ 15/8
14.10 Sugar Lump @ 3/1
14.40 Jersey Jewel @ 9/2
15.40 Filosofo @ 6/1

Edit: and like a div, I have jumped in to it without realising that Hughes isn't even there today! Been replaced by Pat Dobbs.

Second edit : The worst bet ever.

Snoozing Indian in the 3:50 at Southwell is a well bred horse in a weak race. Might have go. Also Whiskey Chaser in the 4:50 at Carlisle stands a very good chance. Interesting double

There's a few interesting bets at Southwell today.

Backed Eva Clare earlier this morning at 7/2, she's now into 5/2. Amtired is another 7/2 fancy.

I agree about Snoozing Indian, good pedigree and at a good yard, I always think these unraced horses are best watched as they often flatter to deceive first time around.

Managed to get Whisky Chaser at 3s for the next at Carlisle. Need that to break even. Probably going to be my last bet on the horses until Punchestown in a couple of weeks.

He was interfered with as he started to make his move for me, had to check his run and start again and lost about 5 or 6 lengths

Ayr:

1.25 - The Last Samuri 5/2
2.00 - Seventh Sky 9/2
2.35 - Sea Lord 14/1
3.10 - Dunraven Storm 5/1
3.45 - Drop Out Joe 25/1

Newbury:

1.15 - Mahsoob 3/1 (two of the horses behind him when winning his maiden on debut are rated above him now, should come on for it and the step up in trip so looks thrown in for all it's a big field handicap)

2.15 - Redstart 12/1

3.25 - Gabrial 8/1 (Didn't win by far in the Lincoln so a 6lb rise in the weights on the face of it could cost him but is a class act on his day and met trouble in running that day so did well to win - could go in again I reckon).

Some nice racing today but I've not done much betting.

Gone for Goonyella ew @ 25/1 for the Scottish grand national.

I'm actually going to take Gabrial on, with Loving Spirit @9/1. I think he's a better horse than the handicapper suggests, considerable swing in the weights since Gabrial's win at Leicester back in October and the booking of Ryan Moore will increase the chances of any horse. Some of his better finishes have been on good or good to firm too.

Top lad, made it a profitable weekend. 3/4 of a length from winning the thing!

Might stick £20 in my account ready for this weekend for the racing at Sandown, McCoy's finale.

He has to win on Mr.Mole, which where most of my money will be going. Currently 3/1, reckon that might drop in price on the Saturday though.

An ew L31 for me today.

1.45 Ripon - Lady Kashaan @ 9/2
2.50 Ripon - Lawyer @ 8/1
3.25 Ripon - Pipers Note @ 9/1
2.00 Sandown - Sternrubin @ 5/1
3.15 Sandown - Special Tiara @ 7/2

Originally had a Heinz pencilled out but by the time I had strolled to the bookies, Newstead Abbey had been declared a NR.

No sentimental bets from me this afternoon but would love to see AP go out on a high if Special Tiara isn't to win the Celebration Chase.

No bet on the Gold Cup either but I like both Grand Jesture and Unioniste.

Special Tiara and Pipers Note rescue the L31!

Close to a big win with a second and a third but ended up a modest £40.

Seemingly as one great leaves the sport, another may be emerging. Sean Bowen picked up the conditional championship and then went on to give Just a Par a brilliant ride in the Gold Cup. Excited to see what he does in the coming years.

No real money in Douvan and Don Poli tomorrow but got those 2 plus Champagne Fever in a £5 double, returns £35.

A pretty solid bet you would think.

Only niggling doubt would be Champagne Fever, has a very worthy challenger in Hidden Cyclone.

3/1 as well means I've broken even for the festival. Not going to bother with the rest of it now.
