Yes folks, Trevor Kettle is back at the Abbey to add to the joy of Fatty & Shouty on the touchline next saturday.

Derry is in place to the end of the season, it seems. Jez still on gardening leave/recharging his batteries/licking his wounds/plotting his revenge??

I have a suspicion that at least 2 more signings (striker and CB) might be through the door and on the bench but I'm assuming it won't be be George Taft or Ricky Miller - who knows? Our only signing so far, Adam Philips (Norwich U-23 captain) might get a start but as likely to come off the bench. I'm assuming that we'll ensure we've got more new faces on board before thinning out the likes of Lewis, Osadebe, etc. I can see some who feature this weekend not being here by Feb.

I'm expecting a loss but hoping for at least a draw - perhaps Stags FA Cup distractions might increase our chances but I'm more concerned about how things are developing and the likelihood of distractions in our own dressing room.

Forde
Halliday, Legge, Taylor, Carroll
Deegan, O'Neil
Amoo/Mingoia (are either fit?) actually probably Elito again, Brown, Maris
Ikpeazu

Subs: Mitov, Davies, New CB, Philips, Dunk, New Striker, Azeez

Despite a decent 8 points from the 4 holiday matches, it'll be a resigned and/or disgruntled sub-4,000 bunch of home fans at the Abbey who'll need stirring if they're to get behind the team. I suspect that Fatty and Kettle might manage to provide the spark, with some help from Uche.

Big big game for us. 6 of the teams around us are playing each other so a hopefully we can get a win here.

I'd be hoping for us to be getting a point if we play how we've been doing.

We either seem to do alright at Cambridge, or get completely thrashed - hopefully not the latter.

Hoping Danny Rose might be back for this

If Rose is still out and with Hemmings injured, we will probably struggle to put the ball in the net. 0-0 anyone?

No Danny Rose? We'll smash 'em then. 1-1 I reckon.

Does anybody remember the 2010 fixture at ours - I'm sure it was during the Xmas hols but not sure if it was on Boxing Day or a couple off days later - when the Staggies smashed us 5-1? What I'm sure of though is that they had this red cross on a white background away shirt. Nice shirt I thought. Anyway, the club put out this notice for volunteers to help clear the snow off the pitch otherwise it was going to have to be postponed. In hindsight, that would've been a much better idea. FFS a 1-5 home defeat can only be described as embarrassing.

Oh, and Wobbie Willmott got our goal that day.

I've been to Cambridge 3 times - seen us lose 7-2 (i think we got 2) and 4-0 and then we won 2-1 with 9 men (scoring the 2nd goal with 9 men!) this also included a copper losing his helmet and a steward losing it at our fans, charging us and then being arrested himself :bg:

Given the exciting times from those 3 games, it's rather the shame I wont make Saturday

Yep, that 7-2 was back in 1999 when Roy McFarland took us up to L1. We were very close to winning the title too but Brentford beat us in a decisive final day match and they won it instead. I think that 4 nil you're referring to was back in 2012/13 but it was 4-1, and then you beat us 3-1 in the return at FM.

I just can't recall your 2-1 win with 9 men though. Was this in the Connie? My memory's not great at footy related stuff but surely I ought to remember if you had two men sent off. Unless I had to give it a miss, in which case I deffo won't be able to remember ;)

edit - found it, back in Sep 2003 and now I'm sure I wasn't there.

My first game since Newport at home, so as far as I'm concerned we're still fucking rubbish.

1-3.

I’ve been to the Abbey more times than anywhere else. Recall a 4-1 defeat and a 3-2, not sure if we missed a last min pen in the 3-2 aswell. Some cracking goals scored in that 5-1 win.

Arrived in the ground late 2/3 seasons ago to find we were 1-0 down and as soon as my arse hit my seat we went 2-0 down and back to the pub. Great city.

I new element has been introduced tomorrow - Barry Corr’s return. Along with Kettle, Evans, Raynor, Derry clinging on, no Jez etc, it has all the makings of a crackpot afternoon.

I’m going for 0-0.

Dull game but a point apiece was what the two sides deserved. A couple of observations esp. on the new signings but I don't really like to rate players so early on. Waters looked lively and looks a solid signing. Philips not too much, he doesn't look like being an improvement on Elito and Lewis. But it's just one game, so any criticism right now would be unfair. If you people recall I didn't even slam Jones on his 45 minute horror show when so many did. Darling, while not a new signing, looked good and comfortable at the back.

Definitely do not believe that Derry was right today with his starting line up. I don't think you make so many line up changes when you're already missing Legge and facing one of the league's toughest sides. We were looking reasonably good in our last 4 matches so to make three changes is a lot I reckon. A consequence of this was that Uche and Brown were pretty much ineffective today, as was Halliday.

Bringing on Amoo was also a huge cock up imo. If he's struggling with something then don't play him, simple as.

I was hoping for a win today but only losing once in 20 is quite a effort.

Martin confirmed on stags player (or whatever he uses) that danny Rose was onside for his goal, so that's a bit of a shame it wasn't allowed to stand.

I'd have taken a point before the game

That's what BBC Camb are claiming too. I'm genuinely intrigued what footage theyve seen as I thought they relied on ifollow and their single camera which makes it almost impossible to call offsides and other close call decisions.

Oh btw, I forgot to mention that Gary Deagan was woeful AGAIN, and Maris not much better but with the latter it's almost a given as it's a good game one week. a poor one the next.

But then our fans only focus on Carroll and Elito. Before these two, it was O'Neil but thankfully for him he got himself injured and was out of the side for some time. Not saying these three players are fantastic players because they're not, but it's good to look at the whole picture every now and then isn't it.

I disagree.
To be fair, Maris doesn't do the job alongside Deegan (against a decent side) when we abandon the diamond, put on a winger who's f***ked and turn over the initiative.

Evans out thought Derry (surprise) and we (the team on the pitch) did well to get a draw in the second half... but I enjoyed us going for it (glad the lino was on message - can't have us losing with BBBC back at the Abbey).

If the Piggot is worth £25k, can't we expect an offer we can't turn down for the blessed Melito?

Interested to note that Jez (and DD) were at the Abbey today.

I agree that a draw was fair. Mansfield threw a lot at us second half and overran us in midfield (where the dreadful Deegan was woefully exposed). But our defence did a decent job considering we don’t have any senior centre backs left.....!

Maris, Brown, Ikpeazu and Phillips all struggled and came in and out of the game. Waters on the other hand gave it a good go and looked like our most likely source of a goal. Phillips’s free kicks were decent but he was non existent otherwise and didn’t seem very strong in the tackle.

Vanni, I think you need to let the Elito thing go. The rest of us don’t rate him, you do. But he isnt relevant today as he didn’t play so you didn’t need to bring him up.

It’s a decent point for us and it’s further proof that we won’t get close to the play offs. Another point closer to safety and lovely to see Corr back on the pitch.

Pitchside footage maybe? Either way it’s annoying to lose out on two points because of that.

Legit goal it may have been but that's a bit of karma for the dive in September....

Would have picked the same XI Derry did, may be set up a bit different though. Phillips was OK, most outstanding, but we were noticeably worse when he went off. Waters was great and buzzing all over the place, hopefully gets in a few more goalscoring positions though. Darling looked like a seasoned pro at the back, kid's gonna be a star for us. Brown and Uche below par from usual standards, Maris supposedly good in the games I missed but looked like the same old guy to me today, and agree about Reagan being poor again, would take Dunne over him every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. Fair play to Carroll too, did pretty well in all areas today (except for reading David Forde's mind....).

Ultimately a reasonable point, Mansfield are better than us I think but we were very even today, but we looked like the same much of a muchness we have done for a long time. Decent 5 game run so It's surely time to start the slide soon.

To be fair you was fortunate at you’re place to get the win so this decision equals it all out in my book.

You're not far wrong with the first part. We didn't deserve to beat you at home so swings and roundabouts

I think anyone who was there yesterday would probably agree a point was the right result.

Judging by that image the lad looks inside if that was when the ball was actually played but difficult to tell with a still picture.

We won't make top 7 and I'll be very surprised if Mansfield go up as they are bang average and considering all the money spent I was expecting more.

Wanna bet?

We were pretty fortunate to win at the mill earlier in the season but that was because of a late goal, not a wrongly disallowed goal.

A bang average L2 side does not have a stat like losing once in twenty, and it’s going better when you lot decided to spend that Manchester United money!

It was because of a penalty that was a dive and seeing as your bench is full of cheats it's no surprise.

I've not seen Luton or Notts County yet this season and I would say you're no where near the best team I've seen at the Abbey this season. Solid at the back but you don't take enough risks as a team for me and whilst you are unbeaten in 20, you won't go up with draws.

= bang average.
