Just to give you an insight, Le Fondre and Eoin Doyle (amongst others) went for less than £500k...and they scored goals - the sole purpose of a striker. Hanson's career average of 12 goals a season, just isn't good enough, sorry. We're also abliged to play long ball...an excuse PP has when things aren't going to 'plan'.

Take the £500k and run - he won't score more than 12 next season.

He was in the same Everton youth team and England u19 as Barkley, I think he was a little overshadowed and probably needs to start again without that pressure. If we had the spare money I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him

Like another poster mentioned above, Jonathan Forte had only scored about 40 goals in his entire career prior to moving to Latics, and he bagged nearly 1 in 2 for us last year.

I’m by no means jumping from the rooftops over this Cassidy signing, but he proved a while ago that he can hit the onion bag if he wants to. I’m merely hoping a new start, with a permanent contract rather than being banded about on loan continuously, can bring about an upturn in his fortunes. He was free at the end of the day, and wont be on big wages.

That's because we were the only other club to have played Forte in his proper position for an extended spell - he was class in all three spells with us.

No not really, McGurk has undoubted ability but is a luxury player to me, gives the ball away far too cheaply and far too often, he can come up with important goals mind you. Fully expected him to go as it was difficult to see him as a 1st choice next season. Personally I like him as a player but he is very frustrating to watch at times. Good luck to him, I hope he does well.

How has it? He is only leaving if someone pays us a 6 figure compensation/tribunal fee and I doubt he has enough in the bank to justify any club paying that. If Ryan has someone as stupid as his dad advising him, then I highly doubt they have the brain cells between them to rustle up a decent move away from the Alex.

I can easily see him staying put. His dad ranting certainly doesn't seal his exit though.

Exactly what we've been looking for then, all we've done so far is sign the hard working centre-mids who are willing to do the donkey work but don't have much in the way of talent.

I think he forgets what he's said in the past. Bradford would have to change their system should Hanson leave and Stead not re-sign. Do they have the time to do that? Can they find a suitable replacement for Hanson that wouldn't disrupt the team and wouldn't need the team to be built around him.

The thing is, Hanson scares a lot of defenders and he can often give us that advantage as while teams double up on him they are giving too much space to Clarke etc.

He is a good target man, his ability to get his head to a ball and his strength are unparalleled in the bottom two leagues. His issue is that he can't do anything else and as such we have to play one way to make effective use of him, plus you absolutely require a good player alongside him to anticipate his often wayward flick ons and get your goals as he struggles to hold it up and he is never going to fashion a goal out of nothing by himself. I reckon we would be fine if he went and we got someone like Stead in but Parky seems scared to change things so it looks like we are keeping him now.

He's very skillful but I'd say thats about it. Many Dale fans quite like him but I'm in the not bothered he's left camp.
I do wish him well though, hes always got a smile on his face and seems a pleasant enough bloke.

He's excellent with a brilliant range of passing - you can tell that he is a cut above. We first had him here six years ago when Paul Lambert signed him and he was superb, but Boothroyd came in and didn't need a ball-playing midfielder as everything was flying over his head. He subsequently played a big role in Norwich's rise to the Premier League under Lambert again.

I believe he had struggled with an injury and an illness last year so was struggling to get a club when we took him on a short-term contract, but it was always likely he would want to head back up north as his family are based in Manchester. A real shame for us, but will be a very good signing for someone else.

Took the captain's armband towards the end of the season and led by example, really helped pull us to safety.

Between us and Blackpool for him apparently. Barnsley also interested but can't see him holding down a place there. He was born 15-20 miles away from Crewe so makes me think we've got a huge chance.
