With Rovers only getting promoted last Sunday, we are a little bit behind everybody else (bar Southend and Wycombe) in terms of preparations, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Clarke wants 4/5 'quality' additions and whilst getting your top targets signed up early would be ideal, the better players are always likely to hold out a little while at the end of a season.

We got all our targets very early last season and look how well that turned out. I'm not worried if we take our time as traditionally our first signing has always turned out to be a flop, not a good omen for our ex Mansfield striker.

You seem to be in the minority with that opinion. We need someone that compliments Hyde regardless of the ability to score 20 plus goals a season because with the right partner he's capable of a good few. I think we probably have a bang average league two player but frankly that's probably enough just now. The hope is the new stadium is the catalyse for a brighter future with next seasons agenda just surviving as a league club as far as I'm concerned. I'm not expecting a play off push, we're a long way off that as a club with a new assistant manager and coaching staff just in place.

He got better in all aspects of his game while he was with us. I thought he was decent but not great when he played on the right wing of a three-pronged attack for Oxford in the Conference. Playing him through the centre made him much more effective. It was simple but a bit of a masterstroke from Paul Cox - and then he improved even further in the two seasons that we had him.

The great thing about Matt Green in my opinion that he can play as a lone striker. He has the pace to run the channels and the strength and first touch to hold up the ball. I always thought he was at his best when he played up front on his own.

There's no doubt if you want to make comparisons between the two that Green has the potential to score far more goals next season, Oliver is a one in four/ five performer so that unlikely to change. Thing is there is no massive expectation from our fanbase about the guy. Everyone tries to talk up a player they have just signed regardless of feedback, God we did it with Meikle and one or two Mansfield fans are doing the same with Benning. Just a case of hoping he fits in to a hard-working squad and does ok. Hope Green stays fit by the way, I don't like to see any player end a career early.

From Newport county in 05 to today he's played upfront as a striker. Cox didnt convert him to anything.

Matt Green came from Oxford playing out wide (in a front three i believe) Green transition to a proper striker was at Mansfield, I don't think he was even full-time at Newport although he might of played in a striker role back then.

Cox deserves credit for giving Green a proper full on striker role, he flourished.

Yeah, Matt Green was known as a forward when we first signed him, but it was a wide forward rather than a centre forward. Oxford's front three was usually Midson - Constable - Green, and we expected that Green would play a similar role for us. If I remember rightly, Cox was a keen admirer of Aaron O'Connor and wanted someone in similar mould to play the central striker role, hence Green's conversion.

Fully expect it to just be a friendly but the cause for confusion comes from the wording by the journo referring to one of Europe's biggest clubs (which to me is Juve, Real etc...not Galatasaray, Benfica etc...) and the whole 'bodes well for the future'.

If I were to make a prediction it'll be a friendly against Juve where they send over an alright-to-shit-reserve side to play us and the 'bodes well for the future' comment is just concerning the fact our relationship with Juve remains fairly solid and I guess could always lead to potentially more.

Well, this guy has been our best player in the last decade. Yes, he's had a bad injury, but after a season when we've had three players get serious ACL injuries I'd doubt that we'd gamble on someone who's a major risk.

So I'd ask those dismissing it - would you welcome the return of your best player of the last ten years, who scored you 60 goals in 2 seasons and helped create great memories, no matter what the division?

Excellent signing on paper. Him and Legge will make a giant pairing!

Roberts is a great signing if he is still as good as he was a few years ago. Not sure how well he and Legge will compliment one another as Fleetwood fans seem to think Roberts's legs have gone a bit, but pace isn't all that important in League Two I don't think. On paper, both are big upgrades over what you had last season, and Roberts is a proper influential captain too which is a big plus.
