We've signed (or re-signed as he played for us back in 04/05) Tom Champion, who was released by Cambridge Utd. He looked good for the Us against Manchester Utd in the FA Cup. How did he play the rest of the time Us fans?

Was immense in our Conference promotion season. Struggled with consistency in L2 but always gave his all and was a fan favourite/top bloke, wish him well and he will get a great reception back at the Abbey.

Not great to be honest, started the season well and then picked up a facial injury which he struggled to recover from for a long time, form picked up in January around the cup game like everyone else, and then tailed off again like everyone else. Didn't specifically do anything terribly, the game just completely passed him by, wasn't breaking the play up on crunching into tackles like he had done in the Conference, and offered nothing in attack more than a 5 yard sideways pass.

There was chat he was off to the States, didn't expect him back in League 2 for sure. He's a trier, that you can count on, whether he has the ability to step up is still very much up in the air.

Shola Ameobi's Notts County
Scott Bennett signed for Notts County?? Guy Branston as their head of player recruitment?? Get your money on them being relegated.

:fl::fl::fl::fl::fl::fl:

Don't.

He's not head of player recruitment either, just a scout. Having said that, this is clearly one his boys - along with Banton if that rumour is to be believed.

Not too fussed with Bennett, if we're finally going to be sensible and have a smaller squad then versatile back-up players are exactly what are needed...and it's League 2, no versatile back-up players are actually going to be good otherwise they'd have nailed a position down somewhere.

Stalwart in the Conference. Seemed to find L2 a step too far - everything was a bit too fast for him and his passing went to pot. It might have helped if he had regular reliable partner in the middle 2 but it looks like Keano and Gearoid are judged a better option, with Hughes as competition. Oh and he occasionally used to forget when he wasn't captain and still get on the ref's tits.

Smashing guy and will always be warmly remembered for

We seem to be doing absolutely nothing at all, other than signing Vadaine Oliver. Apparently Wilcox is happy with our strike force which consists of Oliver, Jake Hyde and Emile Sinclair. Not so sure myself. Still loads of work needed or another season of struggle beckons.

That strikeforce does not exactly scream goals does it?! How has Emile been for you? Im assuming not prolific.

Signed Scot Bennett 'for his versatility' apparently.

He sounds shit, the goods times they are rolling
Scot Bennett isn't THAT bad really, he's just not all that great either....

Sounds like he will be played as a CB for you, which he didn't really get much chance of proving himself there for us. He's versitile, which is probably his downfall.
He's not bad in the air and will score a few from set pieces, but he is very slow and can't pass for toffee. Personally I thought he'd end up being a decent Conference player, so I am surprised he's gone to Notts County.

Really don't see the Cambridge approach being for Cullen - I think if he doesn't go to L1 he will still be here next season. Angol would make sense, had a good season at BW in the Conf North. Though I'm praying you take Ross Lafayette off a (though I'd be more than surprised if we had rejected any sort of approach for him!)

We are probably the worst team in the league to be buying a striker off!!
Lee Angol would fit our profile of type of player perfectly. I think this one could have legs.

No news on the Luton striker yet, it's either Cullen or benson as they are the only two that would fit into the wages that we're offering.

Also been in contact with Southend, I think for Barry corr but not 100% on that.

Can only echo what my fellow u's have been saying, definitely a team player but seemed to go missing for large chunks of a game, when you needed someone to put a tackle in he wasn't around, unfortunately he just wasn't good enough, will always be remembered fondly here though and wish him nothing but the best.

Why would Corr leave Southend for Cambridge?

If those rumours are true, you're either being wildly optimistic with your recruitment targets, or your budget has expanded quite dramatically.

Just noticed that the two most recent people that the club have followed are Tom Champion and Ben Tomlinson...

If we sign any of those 3 I'll be extremely concerned about how we're conducting ourselves financially.

Also, how can you know what wages are being offered if the club have rejected the transfer bid?

Indeed. I really like Hyde, he had a slow start and got injured but he got better and better towards the end of the season and is surely good for 15 goals if he stays fit and gets decent service (so no chance then). We actually haven't seen that much of Emile, he does have some pace and makes a nuisance of himself, but has only scored a couple. I'd say the jury is still out, but "not prolific" would cover it so far. And our best striker for me, Wes Fletcher, has been released.

Tomlinson instead of Lisbie? Or MacDonald? Can't envisage you having room for those three plus Akinde and Gash.

Our budget has expanded dramatically but even I would be impressed if we were looking at Barry Corr and Mark Cullen. Interesting times with better times ahead.

Jez George (CEO and instigator of the Jezolution), said last week:

"Ahead of the forthcoming season, turnover is estimated to increase to over £4,500,000, which will allow us a more competitive playing budget. It is important to stress that none of the receipts from either Manchester United tie will be used towards next season's playing budget."

At the start of 2014/2015, we were probably budgeting a £2.5 - 3 million turnover. That will be up by at least £1.5 million and possibly £2 million next year, although all the extra will not go on players. That excludes capital spending on ground improvements - which is where the Man U money comes in. Key points from the accounts:
  • Club made a £125,551 loss last season, largely due to player promotion bonuses.
  • Turnover £2.41 million against £2.56mill expenses
  • Rent still £50k per annum although could have been £200k if landlord did not freeze again
  • Central funding worth £630k up from 50k. Next year £777k due new Sky deal
  • Play off final only had 25% of gate receipts compared to 40% normally
  • Playing budget 2014/2015 was worked out on a breakeven figure & MUFC money not included

Has this been announced at your end SF? We've been told he is expected to sign but it's all gone quiet the last couple of days.

Why would Corr leave Southend for Cambridge?
same reason as a lot of players, it's all about the money.

Our strategy regarding signings has obviously changed, the first three tell you that, whether it turns out to be the right or wrong thing then only time will tell, I think naturally our fans are concerned as we've been down this road before and it didn't end well, I also share those concerns.

No, just going off your local paper, although Mansfield have been mentioned too.

Did he impress while on loan at your place? ability wise he's more than good enough to be playing regularly in League One imo.
