The guy is a beast in the air, but something needs to change in our defence so if true then I'm all for him leaving.

Seriously, we were heavily linked with Mark Ellis who did fine for us when we had him the last time, but we do need a commanding CB, as we cannot defend set pieces to save our lives.

Don't mind Raynes too much but glad we're not competing with a 3 year deal.

He's been decent for us, and I'd prefer him to Ellis or Brisley, but he's been a mainstay in our very poor defence the past two seasons. It's a great deal for him so I wish him well.

Hopefully we get Ellis off the books now (if it's not too much to ask, Brisley as well) and have a fresh defence next season.

Ha ha fair enough. I know McDermott is decent and on his day superb so the comment was slightly tongue in cheek.

I think that with Raynes going, we won't be looking to sell Ellis until Curle's decided who he can get in.

I think he is, I think our poor defensive record is more to do with how our defenders are told to play and the lack of cover from the wide players rather than the quality of the players, I'm surprised Raynes has gone, and disappointed.

Raynes imo was best of a bad bunch. Our defence has been utter turd for a while and whilst Raynes is very commanding in the air, he's had a few nightmares this season. Blackpool and Notts County away immediately spring to mind.

Mark Ellis, however, makes Michael Raynes look like Gerard Pique.

I'd like us to try and keep Curtis Tilt , bit more of a gamble but he has all the attributes from what I could see. Season long loan ended but Wrexham haven't renewed his contract AFAIK and I assumed we'd borrowed him with a view to signing.
