Yeah I'd say that's an underwhelming signing for County. Signed last summer with high expectations but never really delivered, possibly due to an injury early season which meant he missed a chunk of pre-season. I'd imagine he was one of our higher earners too.

Could be a decent signing, scored a cracker last season.

I'm relatively optimistic about it, I think playing as a centre back under Curle is pretty much a hiding to nothing whoever you are.

Curle nearly got us into the playoffs with Chilvers and Damian Stewart so not sure about that (not that I disagree with Curle being shit and a bad person).

I am nonplussed so it fits in general with my views on Notts this season. A big bag of shrugs

Yeah, but he then signed two theoretically really good ones in Leacock and Smith and turned them into an absolute shambles.

Ah yes he did - although I liked first season Leacock. I didn't realise Brisley has already played under Nolan - I feel better about it now. Also assumed he was in his 30s out of habit but he's 27.

In conclusion, signing of the summer.

Why don't Carlisle and Notts County just merge?

I'd rather have got shot of him than Ellis.

Hopefully his wages will mean we can tie up Adu-Peprah (if Cambridge don't beat us to it :pond:) and maybe another striker?

Is it just me or are a lot of squads way too small? Considering there is no loan market outside the windows this season? I feel like this is gonna come round and bite a few teams on the arse. It's a fairly major change in the way most teams approach the transfer market, however it doesn't seem like many sides are building bigger squads than usual.
We will rely on the academy again. 31 players so far

I imagine now that we've let slip that we're brassic, Mansfield scouts will start circling in the skies above Brunton Park. I say Ellis and Adams because this is two players that have been enquired about despite us not expressing any willingness to sell anyone, not necessarily the players Curle has in mind to sell, though I think he might sell Ellis if it was a choice between keeping him and signing a decent striker. Maybe if he was willing to sell a midfielder then it might be Joyce, with Etuhu and Jones becoming the regular centre-pairing (which could happen in any case) though he may also sell Tom Miller.

The News and Star have printed Curle's comments that we may need to ship players out alongside reports that enquiries have been received for two players, but they aren't necessarily related, Curle doesn't mention the enquiries or even specifically say 'two players' shipped out, and while it would be no surprise if Ellis was one of the two enquired about, or if Curle had been thinking about selling him; Curle may also be referring to just sending players out on loan to free up a few quid.
Heard a rumour we might be getting Miller back, any truth in that?

Apparently we may have to sell players if we're to bring anyone else in, and there has been interest from other League 2 clubs in two of our senior pros.

My guess is Mark Ellis to FGR and possibly Nicky Adams, though I doubt we'd sell him I can imagine some club (probably Mansfield) wanting him.
Rumour now that Blackpool want Adams. Be an absolute disgrace if we lost him a week before the season, surely they aren't daft enough to accept any offer?

Unlikely we'll sign him TBH.

We've signed Shaun Brisley from Carlisle.

He is a bit hit and miss, nothing special although he is capable of scoring but then following it up with a bad defensive mistake.

He is our star man, if we sell him then our clubs ambition is nothing more than staying in L2. That will piss a lot of people off again!

Imps fans, what have you heard at your end that the "undisclosed" fee was that you paid for Bostwick?

The reason I ask is because interestingly, I've just watched Steve Evans' latest interview on our iFollow subscription thingamabob. The main gist of the interview was discussing how transfer negotiations are going with possible targets, but the conversation led onto how we're bookies favourites, but it won't be easy because other clubs are recruiting and spending well....he mentioned Luton, and then said Lincoln are spending money with a deal of around "£400k for the boy Bostwick"

Right now I'd be happy with that.

The lack of firepower in this squad concerns me. A lack of goals + a leaky defence... It's a combination that could spell disaster, god help us if we sold Adams to add to our weakness.

It'll come out in the accounts, but it was as joint deal so he'll have no idea what we paid for which player.

You also have to remember that Steve Evans doesn't like Lincoln and Lincoln don't like Steve Evans. It's needle that goes back about 20 years and any chance to take a swipe, he takes it, even if he is talking bollocks. Apart from talking about himself in the third person, he's also very good at exaggerating things and exaggerating things to get his own was with the Chairman. They'll be a message there for him to open his wallet up even further for him.

Our record transfer fee paid was for Lee Beevers IIRC (£50k from Boston under Steve Evans, which he wasn't happy about (or was it Franny Green from Posh for £75k?)) so I doubt we've gone in at £400k. When we signed Dany N'Guessan from Rangers on a free, who was on loan at Boston, he accused Lincoln of letting him do our scouting for them and taking their best players (even though he was on loan at Boston and his loan had run out).

I agree he will manipulate anything to engineer a few more quid. It's probably more like £400k for both players and if all the Fry / Macanthony add ons are realised like Bostwick scoring the winner in the Champions League final etc.

I've not heard it but Tom Miller was one player I'd have bet on being one of the two we've had enquiries over. He didn't hit the heights of his first season last year and I think from the pre-season friendlies, Gary Liddle is being seen as a right back by Curle. However now Brisley has gone I can't see us allowing yet another defender to leave, as that would leave us with only four contracted defenders, one of whom being a converted midfielder.

I think some rumours about players on the way out are stemming from our forum, where people have assumed (as I mentioned above) that Curle saying we need to offload players and two players being enquired about is confirmation of two players definitely on the way out. But I think maybe Brisley, who may have been on a decent wage, could be last player to leave.

Ahh Steve Evans, the man to be trusted when it comes to talking about transfer fees.

We've signed Liam Walker after his trial. Pretty happy with that, has looked decent enough and is something totally different to what we have, but his missing international weeks will be annoying.

They probably are, knowing them they'd cancel his contract and let him leave on a free to save money on his wages, though I'm sure Curle holds at least some sway over major decisions affecting the club's ambition seeing as he has previously said he only wants to stay if they can meet his ambition.

I don't know where the rumour originated, but the discussion on our forum about the board's likeliness to accept any offer for any player and allow agents to pack contracts with so many release clauses that the player is allowed to leave on a free should they find a Nando's voucher that's only valid in another city because 'that's the only way we can ever convince players to sign for little old Carlisle who would make a nice little non-league club', sums up the way the fans feel. For a fee of £12.99, a new set of bulbs for the floodlights and a promise to wash Ste Pratt's car you can sign our whole squad.

I don't believe for one second that it'd be 400k up front, and like you say, it's probably more likely the figure for both players.
He did seem to hesitate a bit that he'd dropped a bollock by mentioning that figure though. It has been undisclosed pretty much everywhere. Seemingly Evans has a good relationship with Lincoln on transfer dealings, and he knows every agent up and down the country, so the 400k figure will have come from somewhere for him to drop it out like he did.
It was rumoured that you'd bid for one of our players not so long ago, many people seemed to think it was Krystian Pearce.

So I think this does confirm what I said a few days ago - Lincoln have a huge budget for this level and should rightfully be seen as joint favourites with Mansfield and Luton.

Chucking £400k around in the 4th division?! Obscene.

Whats the record signing cost at this level? 400k must be pretty close.

Our record signing was 65k for Tony Kellow in 1980...!
