So, any club that has a bit of deadwood hanging around their club they can’t get rid of are going to be eating into the cap and, therefore, impinging on further recruitment.

GC did a interview yesterday with the squad being back.

Basically we’ve lowered our top wage, which means Maynard has been offered reduced terms but It looks like he wants L1 football.

One or two more may be sold, Andy Cook is probably one of them I reckon if we get a decent offer.

He said the squad will be cheaper, and younger next season, another CB is priority.

As you reckon Maynard is better than Doyle, maybe Wellens will rekindle his interest from last year.

Didn't Davids only play (and manage) on an expenses basis? He seemed to be doing it just for the love of the game.

Campbell on the other hand was a purely financial decision - no chance in hell he'd have been at Notts for any other reason.

He was most certainly not at his prime when he was at Notts, as was Davids with us. Ability at prime is irrelevant. However Campbell at Notts was disinterested and a poor player, all told. Davids for all his faults and megalomania was useful and installed a passing philosophy which has stuck with us (except for Martin Allen’s 24 stints)

I haven't no but he was well regarded by people who watched the youth team, most thought he would have got a deal if it wasn't for the Covid situation. Did very well at Lancaster by all accounts.

Left back who can play in the centre too I think, he's probably unlucky that we already have Josh Earl who plays in the same position and is further along in his development.

We seem to produce a few players in that position, Nick Anderton too who is at your place now, isn't he?

He is yeah. Been impressed with Anderton so far.

Think our manager is going down the young squad route so if Armer does sign he might see first team football quicker than he would elsewhere.

Yep he was barely paid a penny - wanted to help out a local team who showed an interest. Whilst that sounds good it did also lend to his ego-fuelled decisions as he saw himself untouchable.

It was all so surreal. Like you say you could see his quality and he operated 2 steps ahead of everyone else on the pitch, including his teammates. Unfortunately referees did want to be the ones who could tel their kids that theyd booked a CL winner - he didn’t help himself sometimes, but Christ he was a walking target.

Remember we played Barnet; we were en route to auto and they went down but Davids was still able to pull the strings... and our lads absolutely tried to boot him all the time! Maybe didn’t have the legs but still a very good player and nuts that he randomly ended up at Barnet! Considering he was in some of the great sides of the 90s!

Can't vouch for L2 but our Chairman has said that in the L1 meeting in early July, the 30th June cut-off date, which was in the original proposals was reaffirmed as happening so from what he's said, I'm guessing the EFL have just done what the hell they've wanted to appease the bigger/higher spending clubs for a little longer.

Cooke for two years, that’s an excellent signing, he’s one of few positives from last season. Turned down better money in L1 which is nice to hear, keeps the ball well and someone who should do really well under McCall.

I was fully expecting him to start to transition to number one this season. Comes across as a real top bloke off the pitch too, he really gets what being a footballer is about at our levels and builds a good rapport with the supporters etc."

Thanks for that, maybe I was a bit hasty writing him off to be the second choice keeper.
