Should be looking at putting the sword to an Oldham side struggling on the pitch and with distractions off it.

We're in good form and have been playing some quite good stuff.

My only worry is that with Magennis and Dasilva away on international duty, we might not be able to play in our usual manner. Magennis really does make a nuisance of himself at one end and Dasilva is a big part of our counter-attacking. Johnnie Jackson is a great bloke but hasn't got anywhere near the same legs as Dasilva.

Will be interesting to see who starts in place of Magennis. Dodoo might make his debut, can't really see Ahearne-Grant starting the game and I wouldn't be surprised to see Reeves come into the side with Clarke pushed up.

Hopefully, the side we put out should still be strong and more than enough to get something.

Amos

Solly
Bauer
Pearce
Jackson

Forster-Caskey
Kashi

Holmes
Clarke
Fosu

Dodoo

Away win. I hope.

Haven't they lost every game this season? I appreciate we're a little light up front but as you say, have to win this if we're serious about promotion.

How many games have been played?
A bit early to be saying they are shit and we are going up etc.
Let's not get too carried away yet my train spotting friends.

No-one has said we're going up or that Oldham are shit?

4 games have been played in answer to your question and Oldham have lost all of them whilst we have won 3 whilst playing very well. Based on the 4 games played I think we're entitled to want to be looking at winning it.

I was referring more to this post Bobbins.
Whilst not digging out Laura, personally I think it is a bit soon to be saying "haven't they lost every game". Yes, but they have only played 4.
Also "have to win this if we are serious about promotion".
A must win game after just 4 matches, really?
Perhaps it's just me, or more likely most Gills fans, but I can never bring myself to talk in terms of being serious about promotion in the first week of September.
By the way, I have actually backed Charlton e/w at 16/1 for League 1 this year.
You cannot even begin to imagine the sort of emotional turmoil that this causes me week in week out.

"Have to" was probably a poor choice of words, but I do think a team looking to go up should be aiming to win a game against a pre-season relegation candidate, don't you?

We are any bodies guess as to how we will show tommorrow. We have been utter tripe so far but will have injuries back and 4 new signings to call upon.

Still think the backroom drama (whatever it may be) is affecting the on pitch performances so that will probably lead to another loss

I don't think Laura meant it was a 'must win' game. More that if you're a side targeting poromotion, you should be looking to beat sides that are struggling at the bottom and in a poor run of form, which Oldham are.

Laura is right. If you want to gain promotion you should be beating sides when they're at their lowest ebb.

Worst ref in a very long time if you saw the card count you would think it was world war 3. It wasn't that sort of game.

As for the red, the first yellow wasn't even a foul never mind a card. Didn't really see the second. Spoilt a very good game up until that point.

As for the performance, much improved once banks went off. Think that's the last we will see of both banks and Wilson in goal. The lad from city shone and Doyle and Byrne both on the score sheet. Best performance of the season for me but having the luck of a team at the bottom.

Think Charlton came expecting us to roll over but without the red at a vital time I think we could have won that.

And without a dubious penalty decision 10 minutes before half-time you wouldn't have been in the game at all. Let's be honest, you were being rolled over before that penalty.

Thought 4-3 flattered Oldham quite a bit, despite scoring 4 we were wasteful in front of goal and could have been 3 or 4 up before Oldham got their first. A penalty which no-one knows why it was given allowed Oldham back into and a mix-up between our centre halves gifted them an equaliser.

Credit to them though, never gave up after the sending off, but it does look like a long season of struggle awaits.

Agree on the ref, did seem to lose it and get a bit card happy.

Oh, you might aswell close the goal of the season competition right now. Ricky Holmes has already won it. What a beauty.

Credit where it's due. Great goal. And before the penalty it was easily your game. However much of that was down to banks being shite. Our outlook changed when he went off.

As for the penalty it was a blatant handball. Watch the replay. Only thing we got all afternoon

Having just seen the highlights on my phone, I still can't see a handball for the penalty and the ref seems to be motioning for a foul.

Yeah Fane certainly improved you when he came on, so was good for us that it was him that got sent off.

Also now I've seen the goals again, I hope Bryan enjoyed the hamburger that Forster-Caskey sent him for in the lead-up to the second goal :cool1:

John Sheridan is a clown isn't he.

Blaming Solly for the sending off and accusing him of play-acting. If he had half a brain he would know that Solly is probably the least likely player in the league to do that.

Fane clearly had his studs up and whilst it may have been soft, it's stupid when you're already on a yellow.

Oldham fans were ridiculously bitter on social media last night and Sheridan has just embarrassed himself. 5 defeats in 5, maybe try looking in the mirror chaps.

I wasn't at the game so can't really comment. What I will say is that us Latics fans are very used to losing - this 'bitterness' won't have stemmed from that. I'm inclined to believe that the ref has had a shocker as I've not seen a reaction like that on Twitter for a long time. As for calling Sheridan a clown... Very rich from a team with a Robinson at the helm!

Thankfully it looks as though despite giving everyone else a few games head start, we might actually have some kind of team together now.

The ref was poor but he booked a few of our players for no reason and he doesn't even know why he gave you a penalty. He clearly motions for a foul and then latter tells Robinson it was for handball.

Oldham fans on twitter were embarrassing, tweeting about Robinson, Charlton/Solly cheating when after 30 mins your tactics resorted to kicking our players and cynical challenges.

On Robinson, you will see most of my posts about him will say that I wish he wouldn't talk so much nonsense. Doesn't mean he's the only numpty in this division.

I told you lack of goals would be your problem in this one.
