With a full away end baying for revenge of our home defeat (well deserved by the way) and wanting satisfaction from an 8-1 drilling some years back I fully expect us to lose again. We surprised Carlisle with our formation and tactics, just hope we can do something similar up at Hartlepool. No idea what team will be selected, Bignot will no doubt carry out major changes to suit whatever tactics he wishes us to play: works some weeks, not others.

No idea what to expect from our mob, scoring goals hasn't been a problem we're just leakier than a leaky thing at the back, Hignett was expecting two signings before Saturday, no clue who they are or if it'll come off before then, Edit: Looks like Sheff Wed striker Devante Rodney? Never heard of him either...

Imagine he'll stick with this 352 formation, giving Amond a strike partner has made all the difference recently hope it continues Saturday, Carson being out is a blow so I'm going for an optimistic 2-2 draw.

Oh and can you stick an 's' on the end of Pool? Much appreciated :cool1:

Hope Toto took Bogle out of his pocket before he ran off to Shrewsbury..

Amond will score and he'll get another good reception from us but I'm not expecting another 3-0 defeat, unless we lose Bogle before the weekend. We continue to be a bit better away from home and Bignot is starting to get an idea of our better players and systems so I think we'll do okay. Draw of course would be a fine result but I think we've got enough to win it, just the common case of whether we turn up or not. Hopefully we can wrap up the Jamey Osborne deal soon for another option in midfield.

It's a bit like us always harping on about Man U and the Christmas of 1933: history, but still great to look back on.

We won 3-1 at Old Trafford on Christmas Day and then 7-3 at our plaice on Boxing Day.

We also like to remind people about this: The largest attendance at Old Trafford. 25th March 1939, 76,962 people watched an FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town.

If your manager has any sense he will shut up shop for 45 minutes, make 2 subs after 60 minutes and that should lead to 3 goals and a comfortable win for your mob, regardless of whether we manage to score 0, 1 or 2 goals before the 60th minute.

In all seriousness, I expect us to line up 3-5-2 again. It's an awful formation for us, we look garbage, but it has given us 5 goals in 2 games, so can't see Hignett changing.

Checked the table earlier and I was surprised to see how far Grimsby have fallen, sure you were 4th (ish) when we played at your place.

Anyway, it will be nice to see the away end with more than 200 people in it. Hope you create some noise as The Vic has been a library all year. Have you sold out yet?

We look a little better at the back without the liability which was Toto, who strangely was excellent at Grimsby.
Midfeild still piss poor though, but Hignett finally listening to the fans & going 2 up front has got us a few results lately.
Don't know what to expect, could be boring or a cracker with 2 unpredictable teams.

We lost 3 on the trot just before Christmas (all by one goal) which stalled our progress and as the league is so tight we dropped like a stone as others around us picked up points.

Our away support started to grow last season with 'Operation Promotion' really galvanizing the fans: think we averaged around 800 in the Conference which when you consider how Southern orientated it was last season and all the night games there are is a fantastic effort.

Loud and proud away from home: you can expect plenty of noise and a few drunken idiots within our support. Just read there are less than 80 tickets left out of the 1023 we received.

The head to head stats make interesting reading: you certainly have the edge over us over the last few games, but overall we out 'trump you' as we all knew we would: http://www.11v11.com/teams/grimsby-town/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Hartlepool United/
Erm - we haven't won at Victoria in the League since the McMenemy season. I didn't realise our record was that bad. Both other promotion seasons that we've met in since then we only got one draw - 0-0 at BP in 1990. That point got us promotion I think, then we hammered Wrexham 5-1 in the final home game (Birtles HT?).

I remember going to that Christmas time defeat in 1989. A load of us went in fancy dress and at least got a mention on the highlights programme. IIRC Hartlepool were rock bottom of Division 4 at the time but turned us over 4-2. Thankfully I wasn't there for the 8-1.

That was when Sir Cyril Knowles had just arrived & started throttling players, turned us round in no time
That result was performance of the week by Bobby Robson,Hugh praise indeed.

What a piss poor game of football that was, credit to Grimsby, got their goal and just sat on it for the rest of the match, knowing full well we didn't have the ability to break them down and get an equaliser.

Our players just have no cutting edge, no incisive pass, no predatory instinct infront of goal, Amond was clean through first half, centre of goal and tutty ended it straight at the keeper, a striker with any confidence would of buried it.

Thank fuck for current shite below us keeping our heads above water.

Good interview by MB on Humberside - strangely appreciative of the fans though, can't get my head round that after 4 years of Paul Hurst...

Selection and formation settling down now, he's picking the best footballers and then looking at what formation suits - odd approach that isn't it picking your best players. Someone said on the Fishy if we do no further business this window than retaining Deano and Comley and not selling Bogle we should be happy with that - agree completely.

Same story as every week that. Opposition only need one chance then go for the 8-1-1 formation and they've got the game won.

Nice to see a full away end, although strangely quiet for a team 1-0 up.

That Bogle - admittedly I've only seen him play twice, but I can't get my head round how he has so many goals. He drops deep alot, has a first touch akin to an elephant, and lost most of his headers to our 5ft 9 defender. Can only assume he's just had two poor games against us?
