Chesterfield started that very nervously. PNE's experience could be the difference.

well, Roberts lucky to stay on I guess you could say, but Preston very very dirty! loads of niggly little digs, kicks and stuff. I think we've been remardkably honest, staying on our feet when obviously being fouled.

0-1 down due to us starting like absolute shit. Worst 10 minutes of football I've seen us play in 4 years. Came into later but we must continue the 2nd half in the same vein and surely goals will come. I can see Preston conceding a penalty or two so we need to get in the box and go down when we feel a touch

Cant see what Cook is causing a scuffle in the tunnel over and laying into the referee for? The referee easily could have sent Roberts off for the throat grab on Gallagher!

I can see what Preston fans mean by being negative once scoring - they haven't played with the same attacking intent since they scored, and seem to be dropping deeper and deeper.

Fiery game is this.

Imagine sitting through 40 plus games like that this season.

Oh wait, we have.

Hopefully in the next leg both sides can show us why they're actually in the play offs

Chesterfield could of done with getting the ball in the box more. Seemed to always cut back and play the safe pass. Preston were very negative in that second half but didn't concede so paid off,

Tbh, I think Preston showed tonight exactly why they are in the play offs. Got the early goal and then sat on it well, snuffing out most of what Chesterfield had to offer. You'd fancy them in the 2nd leg, sitting on leads is what they do best. Only thing that will stop Preston going up is their amazing way to bottle big games.

I'm pretty angry right now :(

Dave Allen and his puppet Chris Turner have sold us up for the price of a half competent striker. If we'd had someone to shoot we'd have won that. As it is the lack of any reinvestment from player sales has driven Cookie (to engineer a move) away, and I'm pretty sure we'll be asset-stripped in the summer ready for sale. Lump on us for Leyton Orient-style relegation next season.

I'd even rather have the nutty Italians right now ....

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
Yeah, it was glaringly obvious that we needed a proper goalscorer tonight in a game that we dominated. Still all is not lost, although it's going to take something special to go to Deepdale and come and away with a place in the final. Preston were well organised at the back.

Grayson got it absolutely spot on tonight, no bottling this evening.

When your defence is as good as ours and you play against a side without a single striker on the pitch then why not put bodies behind the ball. He's got it wrong with these tactics in previous games but not tonight, for all Chesterfield's pressure I still think we were the more likely to score.

Clarke, Wright and especially Huntington were superb.

Still not confident about winning these things but it's given us a boost.

Its how us smaller less rich teams have to live i'm afraid. Sell the best players to pay the bills. Its a tough decision they made, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. You could have kept Doyle, not made the play offs and lost him for nowt after a 30+ goal season. On the other hand, you could turn the 2nd leg round, go up at Wembley and be laughing about how you went up without Doyle. Then there are all the permutations in-between. I understand that you're peed off at the moment, but keep the faith and hope you can turn it round on Sunday.

The problem is we're playing with no striker at all, not just without Doyle. The ones we have got aren't getting any minutes on the pitch, and when they do, they have no instinct to shoot.
The closest we're ever likely to get to the Championship, and they've deliberately punched a hole in the boat.

Cook'll be gone on Monday, and following him will be *anyone at all* we can get money for.

Really enjoyed this game. Two very good sides on display in my opinion and it all made for a really exciting game. It's was good watching these sides play and not be annoyed how they're tearing us to shreds.

I was really impressed with how Preston defended tonight. Roberts, Clucas, O'Shea and Morsy are all very strong technical players and I thought Preston defended well against them. Their defenders didn't jump in when in the box like they might have done a few times and they kept a strong defensive line. Chesterfield looked really good when going forward, it was just the final ball that seemed to let them down.

I thought Morsy ran the game today. I have said before how much of a fan I am of his and he played well tonight. Beckford and Garner played well too as they fed off scraps and did well with what they got. Humphey defended well against the dangerous Roberts too. I thought Ryan should have been sent off for what happened with Gallagher, you can't raise your arms like that to a player. He got a little lucky there.

All in all a good game between two very good sides. Game certainly isn't over and I am for one am really looking forward to the 2nd leg. Best of luck to both teams.
