Liverpool should re-sign Steven Gerrard as a player and coach as the "only effects would be positive", says the club's former defender Mark Lawrenson.

Gerrard, 36, is leaving MLS club LA Galaxy and claims he is considering "options on and off the pitch".

Lawrenson feels Gerrard could "definitely play in this Liverpool team" and be used in a coaching role.

As usual with Lawrenson, I don't agree at all. Cheers for the time you were here Steve, but you wouldn't get in this team with your age and decline and nor should you. Sometimes players returning to clubs can work, but I don't believe this is one of those occasions. The dynamic amongst the players at the moment is great, and I can't see a Gerrard return doing anything other than upset it. Besides, I doubt Klopp would even consider it.

Imagine if he did re-sign and he costs you the title again with yet another catastrophic error. Would LOVE IT.

He didn't cost us the title, it was one event that contributed towards it. As with a lot of things, it's easier for that title failure to be put down to that single moment rather than the numerous factors that were involved, especially when the amusement factor is brought into it. And the more it's talked about over time, the more that slip singularly costing Liverpool the title becomes a fact in some people's eyes. We were the second best team on the day, there was a good chance we would have lost against Chelsea anyway even had it not happened.

Nah you would've definitely won the league had it not been for that single mistake. God it would've been horrendous, especially Brenda.

Very good idea to have a thread dedicated to the greatest moment in Premier League history. Is it three years since it happened or smth?

We might see a spike in sales for this book:

I been speaking about this elsewhere but I'd be up for him coming back and helping with the U-23's or having an ambassadorial role just now but to stay away from first team stuff just now as the press will be constantly asking how he's getting on and is he the heir incumbent etc.

Do you reckon the illustrator is capable of drawing eyes?

Or is he making a statement? Perhaps about Liverpool fans and players alike bawling their eyes out upon the conclusion of the season (when Stevie Me slipped).

"I’ve never been able to say this in public before but I was seriously concerned that we thought we could blow Chelsea away. I sensed an over-confidence in Brendan’s team talks. We played into Chelsea’s hands. I feared it then and I know it now."

I think I would have to conclude not, based on the available evidence. Still, at least the eyeless don't have to attempt to unsee King Kenny doing unspeakable things to B Rogz.

Yes, Steven Gerrard did cost Liverpool the 2013-14 Premier League title.

Really? More than this bad call on Sterling? The goal was good, would have given us a draw with City instead of a loss. So rather than all three points going to City ---subtract two points from them add one to Lfc .Ergo,we win the league instead of them and the 'slip' is irrelevant.

To banish him in first place was bang out of order by Liverpool FC. Yes it was a catastrophic mistake but for the younger generation he's only going to be remembered as the fucking idiot who fell to his knees and cost 'Brendan & The SAS' the title.

It's time LFC forgave Stevie G, welcomed their fallen hero home and gave him the chance to redeem himself. Do the right thing, Klopp: win it, and win it with Stevie.

This compulsion you are beginning to develop is starting to worry me, Shane.

If the counting helps I'd like you to continue.
