Ok, even though Port Vale are not going to feature in this at all, I thought it would be nice for you successful teams to have somewhere to discuss how great you are and how you will not only gain promotion from League 1 but will also walk through the Championship and straight to the promised land.
So, it appears that Sheffield United and Scunthorpe have the top 2 wrapped up.
Despite some recent hiccups, we have all known for a long time that Sheff Utd are too big for L1 and now they are starting to prove that. Bramall Lane is proving to be a tough place for most to go to and there is no doubting that they will pick up enough points away from home to be potential L1 champions this season
Scunthorpe might have something to say about who finishes in top spot. Many fans have claimed that their bubble has burst in recent weeks as they have suffered a few draws and defeats but they remain 7 points clear of their nearest rivals.
Their nearest rivals would be Bolton who appeared to be the ones cruising to the L1 title until they decided to give their opponents an advantage by going on a 4 game winless run. Will they be able to turn things around and pressure the top 2?
Another ex PL team chasing the Championship dream is Bradford but they seem to love a draw and that is why they are not currently troubling the top 2. Will probably do enough to make the playoffs but business in January would suggest their owners and manager want to try and get out of this division the easy way.
Fleetwood are the form team of the division at the moment and are rightly well involved in the promotion race. They have seemingly forgotten what it is like to lose, so will be interesting to see how their players react to defeat when (if) it happens. I think most of their supporters will be surprised at the success they are enjoying this season but if they keep the current trend going then they might actually be the team to trouble the current top 2.
My personal gut feeling is that the current top 5 will finish as the current top 5 in some order. That leaves one playoff spot available and is currently occupied by Southend who are another form side but are another team who likes a draw and that could prove costly.
Could that leave the door open for Rochdale? Well they were well involved in the playoffs until they found some troublesome form and have not won in the last 3. Getting out of a winless run can be the most difficult thing in football and it could see Rochdale slip towards mid-table in coming weeks.
Inconsistent Peterborough are still in the chase for a playoff spot and they claimed a solid 3 points at Vale today. Could this be the start of some more consistent form or will they follow that trend of getting themselves into the mix only to throw a shitter in the following week?
Out of all of those chasing that last playoff spot, Millwall seem to be the ones hitting form at the right time. An 8 game unbeaten run in the league has brought them to within 2 points of 6th spot but will the mixed news over their ground and the FA cup run take their minds off the league?
Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Charlton all earn mentions here but I suspect all 3 will remain too inconsistent to actually mount a serious play off challenge. That said, there is usually that one team that comes from nowhere to nick 6th spot, will that be one of these?
Who's reaching for the clouds on that promotion plane?
(and that is my last involvement in this thread because my team is shit)
