So not a response in opposition to the autumn statement?

I don't understand why this has turned into attacking Labour and
Corbyn. It's really odd and a bit pathetic.

It's just typical mnb, it makes him feel better about his existence so cut him some slack.

I was quite enjoying the Marxist vs Social Democratic argument. Makes a change from the same half dozen of us on here being told we hate everyone.

Rolls off of the tongue.

A fourth industrial revolution and resultant full automation is potentially the most important policy development of the 21st Century: potentially bigger than the creation of the welfare state. I don't know enough about the ins and outs of how it would be developed and implemented in the short/mid-term, but our collective notion of what work/labour actually means and how it functions would change fundamentally. It would be a radical emancipation and preliminary discussion about such a project is also an indicator, hopefully, that Labour have a radical vision for Brexit that isn't dependent on xenophobic/racist or anti-internationalist discourse.

It's not the theory, it's the presentation of it to the electorate that's the problem. A half decent ad person should be able to condense that sentence into something a bit more snappy, that will connect with voters better.

A bit more snappy, he's being trained as we speak.

But he wasn't pitching to the electorate. He was pitching to business leaders at the CBI conference.

He was pitching it to the electorate via his twitter account.

This is not really an example of bad/inefficient PR that his critics should be seizing upon. These are new, complex ideas that can't easily be broken down into a single tweet and if people want to find out more they can, you know read about them. People aren't thick.

There is no getting away with it the wording is ridiculous to the ignorant eye. They are actual terms though. The only talk I'm hearing about Industry 4.0 is coming from the party that's supposedly stuck in the 70's. Granted they'll do well to convey their message given how complex this topic is but this will be the most significant change in our lifetime. https://www.theguardian.com/busines...omise-and-peril-for-humanity-technology-davos

It doesn't help that terms like 'big data' and 'the internet of things' sound like buzzwords created by marketing companies. To the public, he can use an all-encompassing term like artificial intelligence. I think it's pretty difficult for Corbyn to explain the development of artificial intelligence and why the public should care in simple terms without it sounding like fear-mongering.

"We now face the task of creating a new Britain from the fourth industrial revolution - one in which the vast majority of humans will lose their current jobs, to be replaced by artificial intelligence that can do almost everything we can but better and more efficiently. We radically need to change how society functions in order to change how millions of people derive their self-worth, this is inevitable."

There you go Jeremy.

In a US election where a key talking point was the loss of jobs to immigration/other nations, I don't think either candidate properly acknowledged that mechanical automation is the main reason that blue collar workers have lost their jobs over time and that those jobs will never come back. More worrying, they failed to acknowledge that AI has the potential to replace pretty much all of the service industry in the relatively near-future.

It is heartening to hear a mainstream politician actually discuss this shit. It's big picture stuff, but more of a threat to the regular Joe than globalisation, yet they've probably never even thought about it. Calm it down with the technical buzzwords though (even if you were initially addressing the CBI).

Not good news for most of us, obviously. Will the government do something to help people struggling? May's actions aren't matching the rhetoric. Instead we'll no doubt get more focus and unsettling rhetoric on immigration, rather than looking for genuine solutions.

I have to credit Jezza for bringing the issue up, as it's certainly a valid discussion to be having and one that society would do well to start discussing sooner than later.

But yeah the PR people need shooting! Not just the tweet, but the timing also.

Labour are a joke as are most of its hardcore followers, creaming themselves over Corbyn as he is soooo left.

The man is a multi millionaire and will retire as another Labour leader failure.
