This has a 2019 final feel to it.

Slow low scoring pitch .

Have to feel a bit for India here, best team by a mile all the way through and then get pumped in the final.

Aussies started with a hammering from India but they have got revenge in a very big and impressive way .

Lost the series in the West Indies. I think the case is becoming a strong one regards Buttler that the captaincy is weighing him down too much. Similar to what happened with Root and we’ve seen him go from strength to strength after giving it up.

Yes - really just not finding form is he.

Some of the younger players did well in this series but not enough.

Great effort by Salt and Brook!

Such an unlikely win.

Englands selection for the first test match is erm bold. Only one pace bowler in Wood (would be very surprised if Stokes turned his arm over at all). Better hope they’ve read the pitch right.

The young Muslim 20 year old spinner (name escapes) has had visa difficulties and might not be allow in. India don't like Muslims.

Shoaib Bashir of Somerset. I doubt they’d have picked him for the first test but I think regardless it’s pretty disgraceful from India to treat a kid going on his first tour like that just because he has Pakistani family heritage. If England weren’t so scared of the Indian board they should consider refusing to play the first test until this was resolved tbh.

246 all out wouldn’t have been the worst first innings score on that pitch but it’s a pretty inexperienced England bowling lineup that India have then exploited. Hartley gone the distance after being targeted but will be better for the experience long term.

Most concerning is how the hell England managed to burn all reviews in the first 14 overs. Never ceases to amaze me just how bad they are at DRS across all eras since it was brought in.

Its looking like a mismatch.
Yes too good with bat and ball for us.

Which is no great surprise.

2 of our spinners have hardly played First class cricket - let alone in an Indian test series.

Some very good resistance from Pope

Well played .

Aussies need 199 to best the WI.

Hesitate to say great day for England as India are still odds on favourites to win it but well done on a fantastic performance today. Excellent knock by Pope and well supported by Foakes.

India should win it tomorrow but get as close to 200 as we can and see if can take few scalps into the second test at the least.

Tom Hartley bowling beautifully in this innings. Not sure if it’ll be enough for England but 4 wickets is going to do his confidence the world of good.

Brilliant for WI to win in Australia at the Gabba no less. Test cricket needed a result like that.

What a win for England. They’re so used to these close tests now it’s almost second nature to them. Tom Hartley that was amazing character to bowl like that second innings after he went round the park in the first.

Wonderful day for test cricket in both India and Australia.

That must go down as one of the great come-back wins of all time.

I was awake following on phone at 5.00 and was so disappointed Pope didn't get a double.

One wag on Cricinfo quipped that is its the first time since the 16th century that England has been ruled by a Pope. Well done England.

Its even more impressive when you consider that Root, Bairstow and Stokes only scored 18 runs between them in that 2nd innings.

Good point and also with no Harry Brook for the series. My guess is India are going to do what they did last time and prepare one that turns square from the first ball for the next test but I think against this England team that might not have the same result. One thing this batting lineup won’t do is get caught on the crease just playing negatively like that one did, they will try to score and once there’s something to bowl to then there’s a chance.

It backfired when they did that in 2012 and hopefully it will again. Especially when we've got Super Tommy Hartley.

Aye here’s hoping. With that high release of his would love to see him get the chance bowl at Old Trafford in the middle of the summer, he could be deadly there. Got one eye on the final test match in Dharamshala. If the series is still live then to me that presents a great chance for England to win as you’d think in the Himalayas it might be nice for seamers. Of course India could just move it from there like they did in the series with the Aussies…
