Yes Cook was an idiot for saying it but imo Graves was also an idiot for calling the West Indies mediocre in the public eye, whether its the opinion of the ECB as a whole or individuals, not on imo to publicly slag off another country like that. You tell your side privitely you expect a 3-0 win or whatever, and Cook's right it probably did motivate the WIndies. Boycott is obviously taking sides on the Yorkshire issue, but I wonder what his comments would have been had Graves not been a Yorkshireman.
So if Graves wasn't from Yorkshire, you think Boycott would have stuck up for him?

Boycott has a campaign against most people who aren't from Yorkshire. Would he have said that England's spin performance against West Indies was 'the worst I've ever seen' if it wasn't for the fact that a Yorkshire spinner, Rashid, was omitted from the team in favour of Moeen Ali. 'The worst spinning performance I've ever seen' is a huge over-reaction.
Possibly or possibly not. Cook didn't just attack Graves, he for some reason decided to say " That's a Yorkshiremen for you, they are quite happy to talk a good game" so it was hardly surprising Boycott attacked him. It was an extremely stupid thing thing to say from a clearly under pressure Captain.

Way too much over reaction to a series draw in the Windies that England, for the most part, dominated and performed quite well in.

Yes there are a few issues, finding an opening partner for Cook after the failed but worthwhile experiment with Trott, a third seamer and possibly the spinner although I'm not convinced over that one.

Mooen over achieved last summer and there is now too much expectation on him. He hasn't become a poor bowler in the space of two tests just like he didn't become the answer to our spin bowling issues after several very good tests last summer. Moeen, in common with many of the players, are part of a developing side that was significantly changed only a year ago and is still generally very much going in the right direction.

The clamor for Adil Rashid is a strange one. Yes he probably should have played in helpful conditions but he looks no more the front line spin option we are looking for than Moeen but the latter has earned the right to a longer spell in the side with his performances last summer.

Where England missed a trick was in selecting Tredwell when a young spinner, like Adam Riley, could have been selected.
I don't think its a overreaction to think that england should beat a completely decimated West Indies side . Off the top of my head I can think of least 8 windies players who aren't plAying for a variety of reasons . England should have won the series comfortablely .

Like the look of Mark Wood. Slightly short, but his speeds and action look very good. Quite frequently 88mph and upwards. Ireland are 33-2 after 9. Hales dropped a catch in the last over. That top order looks like an ODI top order for once!

Agreed. Love the look of that top order going forward, take ansari out for billings and that batting line up would of been superb.

Bresnan in the team with an eye on the future, just move on already! Should have been Gregory in there.

At the England vs Ireland game in Dublin and Bresnan's bowling is on point he was/is giving nothing away, even cleaned bowled O'Brien out beautifully.

That may be but Bresnan is 30, how much is he really going to contribute in the future? While other players aren't around we should have given another young bowler a chance to make an impact rather than Bresnan getting a game for the sake of it pretty much.

Probably the same amount he's contributed to in the past, not a massive amount.

Rumours of Moores being very to the exit door (again) though which would be a step in the right direction.

Fucking washout.

Shame really as it was the only chance we'll probably get to see the likes of Vince and Roy before we recall the likes of Bell.

Andrew Strauss confirmed the new England director of Cricket following Moores being relieved of his duties as Coach.

YAY :woo: :woo: not to sure about Strauss but anyone is better than downtown. Absolutely delighted that moores has gone. Should never been given the job in the first place.

Think Gillespie is favourite. Would be happy with that

Gillespie in Ashes year would be stunning. The fact is has happened as Strauss and graves take over is a very positive sign. The selectors to be overhauled next and we may have an exciting line up for the New Zealand tests

I actually think Strauss's stint outside the direct team/selection thought process and his time with the media, the com box will give him a better of what the English world/fans/media expect for the cricket team. Although not polar opposites, I expect to see at least SOME positive changes. Final nail on the coffin for KP thought after the combox 'c***' incident?

Surely. NEVER re-hire someone who failed and didn't get on with players before that are still in the setup now.

Peter Moores has been treated disgracefully and the ECB come out of this looking very bad.

Ultimately Moores has paid the price for the dreadful showing in the recent World Cup. Personally I couldn't give a tuppenny toss about the pyjama cricket so this is very frustrating as the test side, largely rebuilt only 12 months ago, has definitely developed well over that period with many success stories amongst the newer faces. With that in mind I hope Paul Farbrace is promoted to become the new first team coach so there is some continuity.

KP passes his own best score for Surrey and goes to 300 - YES 300 not out with a 6. Talk about sending a message.

Against Leicestershire in div 2.... 1 big innings won't make up for no other impressive performances.

Doesn't matter who it's against its still an impressive score.

He could score 500 though and wouldn't even be considered

Edit - Sangakarra, one of the best batsman in the world made 36 against the same bowling attack..

How many did Sanga make? He's not a bad bat.

If division 2 is so easy there must be loads of triple hundreds scored... right?

34 fours
14 sixes

Not bad lol
Exactly. The point is that no 'ordinary' county player would make a score like that at this level. Based on ability he should be in the team, but he won't ever be again because the management/captain don't know how to manage him.

If they don't pick pietersen and the New Zealand series is a disaster the ecb are going to look even more incompetent than they already do . Strauss is not a man who likes to look stupid so I can see kp back in even though strauss and the rest of the world apart from piers Morgan think he's a c*** ( a talented one )
