Surprised there is no thread for this.

Heart says 1-0 Argyle, head says 2-0 Wycombe.

We struggle against physical teams like Wycombe so not expecting a result here

With Carlisle playing Luton tonight 3 points here could really be massive for us. I think it would give us almost one foot through the door as the gap to 4th would be more points than games remaining.

Essentially what we have now is a 10 point head start in a ten game season. Takes spectacular bottling even by our standards (don't rule that out though!). Even if we average one point a game, one if not two other teams need to average 2 which is championship winning form. Come on Argyle can we just do things simply for once! Please. :hypo:

I know Wycombe have developed a bad rep over recent seasons for being somewhat physical and 'direct' shall we say, so I've been a checked out a handful of games to see if anythings changed and.... ahem, no.

If anything you genuinely seem even more long ball than I can remember, with Akinfenwa pretty much a battering ram and Cowan-Hall the only guy even trying to play football. Think it's fair to say we'll need some height and muscle to go toe-to-toe (if Donaldson starts again we're f*@ked) and our CB's will need ice baths and bandages afterwards, at least the pitch is in good condition which at least gives us a chance.

What is clear is that Wycombes form coincides with the presence of Aaron Pierre in particular, which is probably bad news given that he's looking back up to speed now, I'm also pretty much always impressed by Harriman and Jacobson even though they're right gits to play against.

Agreed, sadly.

We will need to play 5 4 1 in this game to be effective against direct play and two wing backs to push up into midfield while in possession to apply pressure and force errors.

Chances are if Wycombe set up right, they could mark our lone striker out the game and play the midfield high up the pitch and go long to outnumber our defence.

Important that we retain possession tonight as if we don't our defence will be overrun and we will be unable to score

Yep i can't disagree with any of that,it's time Ainsworth understood that spoiling tactics and "The dark arts" will not get us promoted, i hope some other team want him to take him off our hands as he's a bloody embarrassment to our club but alas there's bugger all us fans can do about it.

At least Akkinfenwa is fit to play and it looks like a 4-4-2 formation, what i don't understand is the fact after chasing Sam Saunders for a couple of months he's on the bench yet again :ffs: No doubt the naive Ainsworth will bring him on with a couple of minutes to go :mad:

HT: Wycombe 1-0 Argyle

Wycombe playing long bypassing midfield and using the midfield to press forward. It's working for them

1-1. I'll take that. I am now going to go outside, run round the garden naked and give thanks to Bacchus that we have no more Tuesday night games! Roll on Saturdays.

I'll take the point as well. We are not good at defending route one hoof ball so this is a big point

I don't get it either, why sign a passing midfielder if you're just going to end up hoofing it over their head all the time and cut them out of the game.

Anyway. The season continues to peter out with a whimper.

Exactly mate,Saunders must be questioning why he signed an 18 month contract recently and i wouldn't blame him. I think the problem is he's a very good midfielder and Ainsworth doesn't know what to do with a player like that as he prefers hoofball

If I am correct we played 4 Tuesday night games in the league at home and lost all four. Of the aways in the league we won 2, drew one and lost one (I think). 7 points out of 24 is not automatic promotion form.
