I watched Mad Max: Fury Road today. It is very, very good. Very stylistic and nicely paced for what is effectively a single continuous chase scene. I've never seen the old ones, but I am going to try and watch them in the near future.

A Bucket of Blood (1959)

A waiter at a bar frequented by artists accidentally kills a cat, covers it in plaster and passes it off as a work of art. Soon he is the hottest new artist in town BUT THEN THINGS ESCALATE.

R100 (2013)

How to describe this!?! Well I knew it would be mad, mental, funny, surreal and completely banana's going into this as its directed by one of the Japanese comedians I watch a lot, Matsumoto Hitoshi, and I've seen Big Man Japan so know what to expect from him; but it was just as strange as the other film.

Its about a single working man who struggles with balancing his life and looking after his son, after his wife is left in a coma. To experience relase and joy from all this, he joins a bondage club and undertakes a year-long contract where dominatrixes will randomly turn up and beat the shit out of him until he reaches euphoria, which you see by CGI and his face becomes stretched, distorted and his eyes turn black. He is fine carrying on like this, until they start coming to beat him up in restaurants with onlookers, and at his work and home to further humiliate him, and even in the hospital ward while his wife is lying in her vegetative state! It starts to intervene on his daily life, and when one of the dom's accidentally dies, the head of the bondage club comes to put him in his place and is played by a woman who in real life is 6 foot 9! He begins to fight back, and transforms from masochist to sadist killing all the dom's in his way and eventually, somehow, he and the CEO become intertwined, and he becomes impregnated with a sadist.

There are scenes that actually come out of the film, where critics or technicians on the film discuss what the hell is going on, but it only adds to the confusion, and eventually they re-enter with us to try and make headway of it.

Its bonkers, typical of Matchan, all over the place; yet its very funny and highly watchable, and typically Japanese.

8.5/10, much better than I was expecting. The scene from the church was one of the best/funniest action scenes I've watched.

A Hijacking
An airplane crew takes ill. Surely the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot afraid to fly. But don't call him Shirley.

Super. Also, it's lovely to see a Torquay United scarf and mug featuring in a Danish film. 8/10

That not just a remake of The Seventh Seal (which is way overrated anyway)?

Festen (1998)

A Danish/Swedish film about the dinner party from hell! A 60th birthday brings together a family for what is supposed to be a celebration of a fathers life so far - however, the toasting to him from his eldest son brings a whole host of dark and disturbing revelations, kicking of a dramatic fracturing of the family.

Turned it off about 20 minutes in, it's shit. REC is infinitely better. 4/10.

Really fucking weird, but I quite enjoyed it. Had an old school feel to it which is missing from a lot of horror (if you can call it that) these days. 7/10.

A massive earthquake off the San Andreas faultline shakes California from LA to San Francisgo

If you like watching movies with a good and deep plot, 2/10. Typical disaster movie where girl gets trapped and gets helped across the city before parents save her, surviving numerous quakes.

If you like a lot of action, 9/10. Micheal Bay would be very proud of the sheer mass of explosions.

Overall 6/10, while a very small plot, the action keeps the movie pretty interesting.

Heard the Radio 5 review of that today. They said it was formulaic, predictable and obvious. But that makes it work well as an old school disaster flick and it's well worth a watch.

Just got out of Insidious: Chapter 3.
It's better than the first two by quite a stretch, the script is dreadful but the suspense was built quite well. The demon was a bit naff, it would have been nice to know a bit about it but it doesn't need a back story right? The ending was a bit shit. 6.5/10.

Not seen number 3 but that's some comment considering I rate the first much higher than a 6.5. Aside from the silly spider demon, number 1 was excellently executed. I was expecting 3 to be watchable but with James Wan not at the helm, slightly predictable.

The first one to me started really promisingly then tailed off completely for me. The best thing about chapter 3 is the build, the tension is pretty high throughout but like the others, tails off towards the end. Just not quite as much.

Watched God Bless America this week. I agreed with the general message and I like the lead actor. Was a bit daft having two people killing loads of other people and the authorities do something about it after 20-odd murders and I don't think the plot warranted 1h45min of film. But hey good fun.

Without giving any plot points away Gilly, does the ending set up for an Insidious 4?
