If Sunderland were comfortably midtable then they'd snap our hands off for that £6m for Defoe, he's 34 and in his career indian summer. As it is I can totally understand them rejecting it though, surely without them that relegates them, he's worth much more to them than that.

Club has said a £20m bid for a player in Scotland has been made, which reasonably assumes it's for Dembele.

Both Calleri and Zaza haven't worked out, Tore too, to complete an epic failure of a loaned triumvirate who've all turned out to be useless. That leaves Carroll who's an injury waiting to happen, and Sakho who when fit is great and makes us a far better team both in style and overall effectiveness... yet he's been sitting in the treatment room the best part of a year. Ashley Fletcher could be promising, but not yet up to scratch.

Scoot forward to this window, and we're now offering £6m for a 34 year old striker who some of the fan base will have issues with and have no resale value, and then offering £20m for another striker who six months ago could have been gotten for a fraction of the price and is somehow worth multiple times his previous fee after scoring goals in the Scottish Premier League.

No need to go crazy this window with either of the above - we're not getting relegated, we're not qualifying for Europe. Get in another loanee to make up the numbers and address properly in the summer. What a mess.

There needs to be something done about the clause. He, as you rightly say, was available for a fraction of that from Fulham. Excercised his right to move for free to a different association's club. Now he is valued at £20 million.
Fulham will be mightily peeved about that for sure and it's just contributed to the over inflation of a player's value. They've contributed to his stature as a player and have got nothing out of it in return. Granted, he would have been sold off relatively cheaply, but at least they'd have got something.

You were only bidding for Lacazette, Batshuayi and Bacca six months ago.

Owners thought that the new stadium and season's league placing was the springboard for being able to attract the next level of player, at least in Batshuayi and Bacca's case anyway (with bids accepted but players choosing to stay/go elsewhere). Fair play in trying to see if that was going to be the case, but though they wouldn't admit it, clearly Gold and Sullivan were wrong.

At least since then it's perhaps a bit more realistic in the players they're now trying to attract, even if it's the same bloody scattergun 'strategy' as before... just hoping that the new reports that we've given up on signing Defoe is true.

Wouldn't mind Sakho for the right price, i.e. nothing like what they paid for him.

West Ham £3m bid for Snodgrass rejected. Worth a relatively cheap punt given his contract is up in 6 months, but it's not even close to a position of need. I doubt he even gets in the first choice eleven unless Dimitri is off.. Hull aren't going to sell at that price though, let alone a day after appointing a new manager.

Interesting one that one. Looks like Hull pulled a sneaky one on Snodgrass and several other players. Put out a soundbite in the media about them signing new contracts, when in fact it turns out the club just activated the extensions. Snodgrass has not sat down with the board to discuss a new contract and hasn't signed a new one. Trouble t'mill.

Looking at the state of West Ham I wouldn't mind us bidding 6-7 million for Payet. Would be good addition while Mane is gone to AFCON.

Can see a few Hammers spitting their coffee out reading that this morning.

Yuto Nagatomo (Inter Milan) the latest linked with us on Twitter. The way they have defended in Europe this season would suggest he's not up to much as a defender, considering he's a full back.
Reading our forums though, every name under the sun has been linked; some downright laughable.

£20+ million might get you a seat at the bidding table

Chelsea's and Conte are using the January recall option in Ake's loan.
The twats.

Hope he doesn't rot on your bench, he's better than that.

Since Conte seems committed to the 3x cb base, i wonder if Bournemouth's use of him there has made Conte realise he could be useful for Chelsea there as well, especially since Terry and Ivanovic's times are almost at an end.

Surely he's recalled Ake to actually use him.

Ake's recall confirmed, which is awful awful timing with Francis' suspension being upheld. Suddenly rather short of deneders for a few games.

We've loaned out Emerson Hyndman to Rangers for the season, 5 months in Scotland playing in that league should toughen him up, and good experience playing at a club like that.

Is it reasonable or unreasonable that I haven't a clue who Ashley Fletcher is?

West Ham signed him from Manchester United in the summer. 21-year-old, really hasn't done enough to make Hull think he'd be worthwhile, but they did sign Will Keane in the summer so you never know.

I like Fletcher, has been better than Calleri and Zaza, and probably needs a season in the Championship before he's ready for the Prem, as was playing L1 football last year.

Would prefer to keep him tbh, not at all convinced Snodgrass is good enough for our 11 unless Payet is off...

Snodgrass is a Feghouli replacement.
