What are your thoughts on an all in one match thread?

I just thought i would bring this up to see what peoples thoughts are on maybe trialling out an all in one matchday thread as opposed to the current format on here of 12 seperate ones.
I ask because coming from the Non League forum this worked really well as you get to know what has happened in most games instead of having to go on all the different matchday threads to find out the ins and outs of each game.
Anyway my thoughts would be to try this out for the first week of the new season, and if a lot of you don't like it then it gets knocked on the head and reverts back to the single matchday threads.
Anybody with any thoughts/ideas/comnents on this?

I thought the same when we came up from the Conference because it does work well down there. Thought it'd be annoying going in different threads.

Prefer separate now though having been here a coupla years. You'll get used to it.

I've seen both over the last few years - I prefer the single threads during the week, but on a matchday, all in one place could be better?

It also seems to be decidedly less busy on here during matchdays because supporters may actually be at matches!

I'm all for a single match thread. Just like my fishy friend, I also want to know what's happening in the other games, so it's a pita to check 12 separate threads. Then there's also the fact that a good number of match threads will only be created by a mod and won't gather much interest - sorry SFL.

Or perhaps a better idea would be to separate the L2 sides into two camps, those massive enough to deserve a match thread of their own (Luton, Luton and Luton) and those tinpot sides who'll have to share one between themselves (the rest of us then).

I'm all for a single thread except for games that might have some tasty rivalry behind them. Most of the separate threads are pretty naff.

Perhaps the mods should just create a single match day thread instead of forcing separate ones. If anyone feels the need for a separate thread they can.

This forum also seems a lot less busy than the non league forum, not sure if that changes once the football starts, although non league still has lots more posts than this one in silly season. Might change once the season starts but if it carries being this quiet some of those multiple match threads must be dull....

Oh and if we do have single match threads, if i create any Grimsby ones they will be named normally rather than the silly thread titles that seems to be the norm in this tin pot forum!!

Well non-league encompasses a lot more teams than just League 2 so I suppose more posts would be expected?

Match threads worked fine as they are last season for me, albeit there's enough CUFC posters to make them work. I know some of the other match threads had very few posts, if any. It may be an idea then to have a single match thread and then if a normal poster, rather than a mod, decides to make an individual one that's fine, as BeesKnees suggested.

No, which is exactly why I wouldn't want it.

If I want to read about other matches I'll click on their threads. I don't want to spend my time reading about teams like Grimsby, who do absolutely nothing for me, just to find the few scattered posts about the big Exeter vs Mansfield match.

Most match threads are started by supporters of the teams involved which i feel is a good thing. If a match has no thread i don't mind starting one as that may bring responses of fans of other teams.

The NL section may have more posts on it but the overall quality has gone downhill fast. Don't get me wrong, there are still some good guys over there(esp. those who were also on the old forum) who post good sensible stuff, but there's also a lot of codswallop. Pity as it was the best part of 1FF but not anymore.

For every L2 match thread which spans 4 pages, like the Carlisle - Pools example which cufc17 has mentioned, there are 4/5 others that only get a couple of replies at most, and generally these replies run along the lines of 'well that was crap'. Now, I don't particularly mind these threads at all as everyone is free to read what he wants to, but the thing is these threads push other more important (and by important read more views and replies) threads down the page.

I think a general match thread which includes a brief review of the matches taking place will elicit more responses, as forum members will also get to post their thoughts on matches which do not involve their side.

Seriously though, I don't know if you were on the old forum Abers, because if you were you'd realise how much the forum's changed. Nowt wrong with a bit of banter, but it's not a good thing when posters are ridiculed by others who don't agree with them. Just remember how many times it got out of hand over there and the mods had no option but to step in. Still, I suppose it can always return back to being a great part of this forum. At least the fans of the promoted clubs like Maidstone and Sutton look like decent sensible chaps, plus the York and Daggers fans who are good posters too, so all hope's not lost.

Yeah, I don't particularly care for the ongoing petty spats but I also find the generic, monotonous arguing over petty points of view fairly boring too.
I like a bit of individualism, weirdness and humour in the match threads. A bit of " CRAZY BANTZ " is fine too imo as long as it doesn't get nasty. Each to their own though, I look forward to reading several pages on whether it was handball or not several hundred times over the coming season.

Definitely separate threads. In the conference there was often only 2 or 3 games that got any real interest from posters but there will obviously be a lot more interest now we are back in League 2. I go to most games but do like reading the match threads on here post-match and I don't really want to be trawling through umpteen posts about Carlisle v Notts County and Leyton Orient v Plymouth etc to find the posts on our game.

oh don't get me wrong it has gone rapidly downhill mainly due to a two or three posters, and one of the reasons I hardly posted last season, however it is still far more active than this forum it seems, even without the shite.

Hopefully this one picks up once the football starts otherwise like I say I can't see how the separate match threads add much, other than one or two, most of them will probably be about 5 or 6 posts it seems.

It'd better to have seperate ones, but sure.

The conference one was busier and quite funny, but was also full of shit sides that had 3 people attend per games, and quite a few of the clubs had no, or only 1 poster on here, which obviously meant it didn't work well, there aren't really any sides like that - even the smaller clubs such as Accrington and Morecambe had a fair few fans - the Dagenham fans were some of the best on here.

Prefer the joint threads myself.

I seem to recall plenty of match threads last year that were started by mods at the end of the week because no one could be bothered to create one. I'd be more inclined to read through one thread than click into multiple match threads.

if the turnout is less than 90% of L2 posters, and the single match thread vote gets less than 75%, then I will consider this as unfinished business. So there!

Most of our threads are about two or three posts long (mostly from the opposing team, too). I'd be all for a general matchday thread.

Threads by mods are created so each game has a thread, so posters and potentially guests that visit the forum can look into the thread and create more traffic for the website. Guests potentially may also sign up on that basis so those threads which may only have a couple of posts on them are doing more than you think. It was tested earlier in the year and the idea successfully brought more traffic through to the website with separate threads for each game throughout the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two sections.

Aye. Don't think any other set of fans will appreciate the weekly pages of essays on what a complete and utter charlatan Davis is in a joint match thread. I don't think they'll be particularly appreciated regardless, but hey.

As Frealaf says, NL has gone downhill due to several posters having constant, pointless spats (one was a WUM, the others just idiots). Let's just say you would've been less happy if it wasn't us promoted.
