The return of one of the most unpopular managers in the club's recent history to the DW Stadium, as Owen Coyle comes to Wigan with his Blackburn Rovers side smarting from a battering against Norwich.
While his record at Wigan wasn't that bad in all fairness, Coyle's ex Bolton links, PE teacher dress sense, non existent training method's, complete lack of tactical nous and horrible style of football vilified him in the eyes of the Wigan fans, many who (including myself) never wanted him as manager in the first place due to his managerial record and as mentioned links with Bolton as a player & manager. He was also responsible for signing terrible players who have gone on to financially drain the club while offering a zero return on the pitch such as Leon Barnett, Marc Antoine Fortune and of course Grant Holt. A few hours after suggesting Wigan fans needed "a reality check" on their expectations after getting battered off Derby at home, Coyle was sacked with it being suggested that our current chairman David Sharpe was the one who told Dave Whelan to show him the door immediately.
Anyway that's storytime over (it felt good getting all that off my chest mind) I'm expecting a tight game with both teams desperate to get off the mark. Usually this fixture sees goals so I'll gamble and say we're going to edge it with a 2-1 win. Coyle teams cannot defend and are usually poor away from home so I'll be disappointed if we can't get the win that gets our season up and running. Buxton is suspended due to a straight red on Tuesday unless we appeal and win so as of now I'd say this will be our team providing Powell is still injured.
