A long time follower of all english football, this season the Conference North is by far the most exciting league to follow. Interested to see how far Brackley and Spennymoor can go

I hope to see Harrogate and Gainsborough promoted this season. Too long they have been in this league. I reckon York and Southport will go up though.

Well 3 out of 4 not too bad a guess, but seriously Gainsborough! I think ye gonna have to live in hope with that one.

I think we are the last founding member of the Conference North, not to be relegated or promoted. One can dream. .

I think this season could be where the dreaming will end, fantastic start to the season for you guys.
And scoring for fun with 17 goals already in the bag.

First time poster so just to say thanks all for putting so much effort into your posts. They've been great to read. Everything I've seen here on games I've attended has been spot on. Its definitely a league where you've got to fight for your right to play before you can think about winning.

Got to say for my first season at this level, I've been impressed. The York Darlo game last week was possibly the best 0-0 i've seen for a long time. Great fans as well for a Tuesday. Nuneaton game was a wake up call for York with Ashley Chambers the best man on the pitch in an average team.

Roll on the rest of the season. looking forward to reading more posts, contributing the odd load of rubbish and seeing how it pans out.

Totally agree. The York Darlo match the other week was one of the best 0-0 matches I've seen in many years, great football match with a fantastic atmosphere from both sets of fans in full voice.
Btw, I liked those huge flags waving.

Welcome on board

Fingers crossed McDermott can get the best out of him. He has failed to get the best out of Disley/Westcarr or even Wood though.

In January 2014, Daniels went on trial at Gateshead and scored a hat trick for a Gateshead Xl in a Durham Challenge Cup game against Darlo!
Could be a great signing DSL if you can get him to click.

Nah, without sounding disrespectful towards a few teams, all we have to do for a few games is just turn up. The BPA game was like a training exercise.

Looking forward to the next 2 games though, Southport will be tricky, wouldn't mind a point to be honest, I have them to get promoted this season, think they will be challenging for the league. Don't really get the Salford City love in and don't see them challenging for top spot.

A word to the wise- nobody likes a sycophant: spice it up a little, insult everybody from the word go. They love that. :ds:

That's easily answered- both can go as far as the money takes them until it runs out. Which it always does. :£

Games between Great & Historic Football League Brother Clubs have got NOTHING to do with leagues like this. They are always Football League matches in every sense, whichever league they happen to occur in. :bdick:

Tomorrow we take on Gainsborough Trinity at Edgeley Park. Most would think this is a home banker, but seeing the ease in which Gainsborough were able to put 4 past Harrogate (admittedly they conceded 5 in the process), suggests they have the ability to score goals. Couple that with the fact that and our defence doesn't seem to be as up to scratch as last season leads to a cause for concern.

It looks like we are still going to be without Gary Stopforth as we wait for international clearance to come through (only been 3 weeks and counting)..........

I'm quietly hopeful of our match again Southport. Last season's game was utter chaos Southport when 3-1 up, and the lost 5-3), but both teams have changed so much since then, that it's not likely to happen again.

I'd like to hope that we'll win it, but probably just by the one goal.

Don't Jinx it!! . . Normally we are stronger in defense but struggle to convert attacking moves into goals. Though to be fair, I think Gainsborough may have been an anomaly. We have defended quite well in the other games.
We haven't beaten Tamworth in at least 7 years I think, so winning tomorrow will be a good omen.

Games of the weekend probably Spennymoor v Salford and Southport v York. Both tough games that could go either way. Think there could be a draw at brewery field and a win for york away at Southport.

As for us. We need to put the result against Telford behind us. I don't think we'll play as bad as that again all season. We've had a week long rest and that should mean Gary Brown is fit to come back in at CB allowing Galbraith to LB and pushing forward Ferguson who has been our stand out performer so far in the opening 5 games. Think we also need to use the squad a little more. Especially with a tough game at home to Spennymoor coming up on Monday.

If we want to be top 5 this is the kind of game we need to be winning and I think we have the quality to do that. I'm going to go for 3-0 darlo with about 250 fans making the trip.

Trinity are absolutely honking defensively thus far, conceding 3 a game on average. They're just not very good back there, it's not been down to bad luck or anything.

Harrogate are my local club, and they always seem to charge into a season and put up good numbers, only to drop back after Christmas, and desperately cling onto a playoff spot.

Looking forward to the 23rd Sept. Never been able to walk to an away game before!

Can't wait. Will possibly be the best home game of the season for us. Hoping both teams going for playoffs when the away game comes up in April.

For some reason they only bring them out every few games. No flags at the Nuneaton game the week after and a lot less atmosphere. We need It this season more than ever!

Today Terry gornell has departed the club, could see it coming, awful decision imo, very good player, and we have loaned in two Rochdale youth defenders for a month to cover for injuries

Well North Ferriby for me tomorrow which in a sense I'm quite looking forward to the game.
For one we've gotta get back to winning ways, no disrespect to Ferriby but we've gotta win this one.
Surely we can't play as bad as last week against Telford. That was an awful game to watch.
And we need to give Ferguson the freedom of the pitch, just like Salford.
As for the result I'd say 2-0 to Darlo, I'd be very disappointed if we only took about 250 to Ferriby.
Especially with a lot of fans a new ground to tick of the groundhopping list.

You'll most likely be given the Sterling Motors stand which is what we were given. I think the stand holds about 1,200?
Which is roughly what we took to Harrogate last season in October. Where I was stood I couldn't move the stand was very packed.

Not sure if it is as much as 1200. Some of you may have to sneak in the home gates.

1-0 down to Blyth and looking a cert defeat........not that Blyth have done much, but we deserve this for the mind numbing basic hoofball sh*te we are currently dishing up that we don't suit and never look like scoring from.

Desperately need wide players....this 7-0-3 is desperate to watch, chucking everyone down centre and hoping a random head lands somewhere

County 1-0 Gainsborough

Hard to find anything complimentary about our opponents today, they were pretty awful. We managed to hit the woodwork twice, and Stephenson missed an open goal after taking it past the 'keeper. Had a couple of other great chances too. We didn't play particularly well, but we didn't need to.

Kidderminster 2-1 Alfreton.

Well that a vastly improved performance and we were pretty unfortunate I think to come away today empty handed. Encouraged by what I saw. We showed we could compete away from home for once. By far the best performance away since Nicky left.

Kidderminster were pretty poor first half. Thought we should have gone in at half time further clear. Tom Allan missed a big chance and as did Daniels. If the end it proved costly as Kidderminster scored 2 goals from 2 corners in the second half to ultimately take the 3 points. We posed a threat throughout and deserved a point at the very least really. Says a lot that Kidderminster`s MOTM was their keeper really.

Thought Ricky German looked very good when he game on which begs the question why was he not in the starting XI?

Still big problems. 6 goals scored this season - 4 from defenders. Says a lot that. Westcarr is a waste of space now. Totally uninterested. Macca is quick to drop Disley but refuses to drop Westcarr? Bradley Wood continues to be played in the wrong position. Topliss is terrible and you have the best RB in the division? So why not play him there?

Huge game Monday v Curzon. 3 points a must otherwise the progress shown today will mean nothing.

Very much a game of two halves for us. We unexpectedly went with a 3-5-2 first half (an odd choice perhaps with only one natural centre back) but thought we mostly coped well, except for set pieces where we struggled, particularly with the height of Alfreton. Allen in particular was dangerous.

We changed it up in the second half, threw on an extra striker and dropped Bradley deeper into midfield and I thought we looked a lot more comfortable and put Alfreton under a lot more pressure. You still had chances and a couple of great saves from Hall saw it out, but I thought that overall we were deserving of the victory and when you resort to time wasting at 1-0 in the first half, you kind of get what you deserve.

Ironside looked like he was getting back to his best after a shaky start to the season and I think we're finally starting to see what Dan Bradley can offer too. I'd still take a point on Monday away at Brackley though.
