We've signed him.
We'll I was close enough with my Conference South prediction. Should be a cheap and cheerful squad player at least.
We've signed him.
Chelmsford have signed Scott Davies from Oxford City, now there's a player who still divides opinion amongst Stones supporters. I'll guarantee that Rod Stringer will get the best out of him.
Is that the central midfielder? If so, I thought he was OK!
I'd expect some of ours to drop back down to this level. All of the players McMahon intends on keeping have been offered new deals, but it appears a few are hoping to get a better deal from us. Doubt we'll bow down.
Aye, that's who you'll be thinking of. Fully expecting him to turn it on when we play Chelmsford this season.
That's amazingNot as good as the guy Woking signed. Bobson Bawling.
Would be better if he was called Stubby Chapp, still pretty hilarious thoughmy favourite was a baseball player called Stubby Clapp

I see several players has dropped ship from Truro City to Taunton Town of the Evo Stik South and West.
Can see Truro struggling even more than last year.

Ha! Not quite. In true tinpot but bankrolled fashion their ground was nowhere near Conference standard so the bankroller (Michael White?) threw his toys out of the pram and pulled the plug but yes, Barrow did beat them in the FA Trophy semi-finals back when the FA Trophy was taken seriously.Of course! Barrow beat them in the Trophy semi-final in 1990 and apparently sent them spiralling back into obscurity. Or so I've read...
Thinking back, weren't Grays and Canvey Island similar projects at one point? Billericay surely the next to implode.
Canvey were a strange one, they were never really bankrolled in the sense of a $hitehawk, Histon or FGR. Fat Jeff bought them in the early 90s and installed himself as manager, to be fair he did a decent job, took them from regional leagues to the Conference in 12 years, the early promotions with little input from his wealth. When they 'went for it' instead of just buying up anyone they could they set about getting older players from the area who'd been established football league players (Jeff Minton, Steve Tilson) and taking on released younger players from clubs like West Ham. It went wrong for them because he was unwilling to pump in money when it was clear their attendances would not improve even when they were fighting for the playoff places in the Conference, so he left for Chelmsford and Canvey took voluntary relegation back to the Isthmian leagues.
Grays had a similar theme to Canvey in that when they 'went for it' they decided to take on youngsters, mainly released from local clubs. Mick Woodward was the money behind them, but interestingly I think they could have made a go of it. When he took over they had gates of 300, in the season they made the Conference playoffs they averaged 1500. He said at the time that the gate revenue, club house revenue and sponsorship meant they were making money as they weren't paying out silly wages. Their oldest player was 31.
Their problem started when Stimson (the then manager) got way ahead of himself with his ego and their team was so good they lost the majority of their players to league teams. They couldn't replicate the success and ended up back where they started, Woodward took over as manager at one point as well and since they've had massive ground problems, kicked out and are still homeless I think.
Tamplin at Billericay is most like Hornchurch, who when they went bust had spent £1M in a year on wages. I don't know what's in the water in South Essex but I can see the reasoning as to why these rich locals take on the clubs. There is a big population of football supporters in South Essex but trying to get them to games rather than watching West Ham, Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea on TV is the issue. Southend have been trying, unsuccessfully, for years and have to battle things like having a Tottenham club shop on the high street.
I don't wish Tamplin any luck though, the comments and statements he comes out with are just ridiculous and his unsustainable pumping in of money with harm what was a decent non-league setup.
I remember Dmitri Kharine signing for Hornchurch, I think not long after he was at Chelsea - it was on Football Focus. That one went wrong pretty quickly though.
Maybe they look at clubs in and around that area thinking "well London is massive, so there's room for another club", but can't see a lot of sense in it myself.
