That’s the line people were spinning when we limped over the line to to the playoffs in 2017. We were playing shit, continued to play shit in the actual playoffs and were subsequently beaten in the semis by a far better Exeter side.

You mean the play offs that far better exeter side won with a 95th minute winner when game was 5-5 overall.

Us so badly out of form we could score 5 goals vs a much much better team.

Play offs are nervous affairs it doesn’t always go off form, if so why is it probably likely notts county will fail considering the enormous gap in quality.

They're not getting a congratulations from me, the dirty cheating c***s. Stevenage shouldn't even be in the football league, are only still in it thanks to covid.

How a club like theirs have managed to get the finances to afford that blob and any half decent players is ridiculous.

Yeah, we didn’t win either leg. Outplayed in both games, got back in the home leg due to a freak goal, got back in the away leg due to them taking the foot off the gas before they got serious again and dispatched us.

Honestly, this team hasn’t won a game all season against a team in the top 7. That isn’t about to change and I don’t think we can count on winning 2 penalty shootouts.

Just when I thought we were out of the automatic discussion we're back in the picture. Straight back out of it if we don't win on Wednesday but I'd expect us to and take it to the final day. Still don't think we'll do it but you never know.

Saw most of the game, clearly second half Northampton had the better of it but we came out after ht with little intent and happy to take our time, bring everyone back, boot the ball clear to no one other than an opponent, rinse and repeat until they inevitably scored.
BUT when you’ve got the unofficial POTY and everyone’s favourite striker, plus as proven once again today, the best keeper in the entire league, you’ve always got a chance.

Play Off wise, it would take a monumental balls up to not secure a place with a trip to Crewe on Thursday(?), think we’ll set up for the point we need. The very outside chance of winning our last two and challenging for third is realistically too much of a stretch given the traffic in front of us and who the others have to play which makes all those stupid points dropped across the season all the more annoying (too many to mention).
Would more than happily take Northampton in the PO’s given our history, Salford would worry me the most (in form) and Stockport we’ve never really looked like doing well against in the two games, similar for Carlisle but to a lesser extent.

For once I agree with you.

If we don't go up I'm not too disheartened by it because we're not ready for the next level up and we've done better than expected this season.

I just hope we have the finances to push on for promotion next season if we're still down in this league which is very likely. We don't want this play off season to be followed again by mid table nothing seasons or worse.

It’s been a superb season, when you consider the shit tip we had a year ago.

We’ve come on far, we’ve just fallen short against teams in the top 7, which has ultimately cost us a top 3 place and will probably cost us in the playoffs.

That’s got to be the aim next season, add more quality to make the difference in these games against the better sides at this level. We’re not a million miles away.

as much as cannot stand the guy Evans really should have been manager of the season the turnaround is very large, although I don’t know if this season highlights a lot of hope for teams down the bottom or highlights how weak division is.

12 months ago Stevenage and Carlisle were shocking, both easily could have been where Oldham and Scunny went.

12 months later one has ended up promoted and the other came very
Close, neither on very large budgets, does tell them sides with poor seasons this year it is possible

Northampton manager stoking the fire ahead of next week

"Tranmere? They're basically just Scousers aren't they? There's no such thing as the Wirral."

I honestly think the Tranmere players and supporters need to hear these disgusting comments.
I don’t think we’ve any Wirral born players at the club now, while there are still a handful of Scousers.

The one thing that might impact on the game from a Rovers perspective would be an announcement on the new manager beforehand. That seems unlikely though.

The two best sides I’ve seen this season. However, while you’re probably right about the Carlisle budget, suspect Stevenage have a top third one. Apart from your own club, the top end of the table seems more closely aligned with budget than ofmal this season.

I'd accept Northampton were the better team, but the thing that got my goat was I heard that on the radio Scott McGleish (if that's his name) claimed that Bradford were playing for a draw at 1-1 because that was enough. I don't think either side would have been all that happy with a draw.
Stockport attacking made for a good game.

Shout out to the main commentator who mispronounced so many names I half thought he was doing it on purpose, Nevers - ‘Nevay’, Costelloe (like pedalo (he’s not a left back either)) - Costellio, his Spanish cousin maybe.

If that's true just underlines how the Cobblers nerves have gone, they are scared stiff of bottling it 2nd year running after being in the top 3 most of the season.

Good incentive for Tranny to end their disappointing season on a high and spoil the Cobblers promotion party

Glad others are getting to experience Tim Oglethorpe! Passionate yes but absolutely terrible at his job.

Still some way to go to be as bad as the Stevenage commentator or one notch down from him the Stockport guy who covered our away games this season.

Just seen the stats, 1 shot in the second half for Bradford. Fuck my life. I’m not going to those bloody playoff games.

Yes not going to happen because it’s Clint Hill.

I blame Clough for that yesterday, playing Dunn and Oates out side again he’s a bit of a twat at times

The fact he made four half-time subs and we battered them in the second says a lot.

The positive is we have saved money from watching us lose the play-offs again.
