Was on breakfast news a few weeks ago that i think its the old cotton exchange
Wash your mouth out with soap and water.

Piece Hall was a "Cloth Hall" for trading pieces of cloth (30 yd hand woven lengths) but Yorkshire is Wool Country, Cotton is Lancashire.

Where is that second picture in Halifax?
Still not a patch on a day out in East Thurrock I'd wager!
East Thurrock Utd FC - Home of the biggest pile of tin boxes in the UK? I guess Felixstowe & Walton Utd or Grimsby Town FC might offer a challenge.

Yep, it's the Piece Hall. Not a patch on East Thurrock or Vauxhall Moors though!

What's your definition of close?

The missus went to Birkenhead High School, so I can forgive an ignorance of things happening north of the canal.

I always love going to Torquay, but I fear last week will be the last one, possibly for ever.

Mixenden voted Tory in local elections in 1992. Mixenden is therefore posh. Or it was until they voted BNP later on. If you HAVE to go there, never go there on foot, is my advice. :eyes:

Completed in 1790, built and paid for by local merchants, and ostentatiously designed on Roman lines to demonstrate their wealth and sophistication. It is actually regarded by some "experts" as one of the finest Roman style buildings outside of Italy. Daniel Defoe gave a vivid account of entering Halifax via the Pennines from Lancashire and passing the stretched woven cloths left to dry on "tenters" in the open air (the penalty for stealing these was beheading on the local gibbet :eyes: - hence the saying - I don't know if you've heard it in the South - "from Hell, Hull and Halifax, Good Lord deliver us"), while inside the little cottages, every hand over 3 years old was busy working away in this local industry. He ends his description with "we left Halifax in some astonishment at its situation". An impression still often felt by those coming to The Shay :bdick:.

Anything else you wanna know about my town, let me know. :ds:

Triangle has no canal! Were you walking along the river Ryburn alongside where the owd railtracks went?

We have some good stretches of canal towpath though. Plenty handsome houseboats along with the scenery of the valley bottom. I can get a little tempted by that lifestyle when walking the towpath from Mytholmroyd upwards...

I've walked/cycled loads round Sowerby/Hebden Bridge,Mythomroyd,Todmorden is that we're the clogg factory was?
So might be but muddled.
Last time I was there parked in Sowerby Bridge & walked back towards Halifax along the canal, with a river down below.Theres a pub where canal came to a dead end.
I might have seen a sign for Triangle & it's stuck in my mind as I thought it's a strange nameplace

Anyone who sticks around down here for another year will surely be able to sample the delights of an away day in Carlisle next season.

I still reckon York is a great away day, until we move to the out of town stadium, anyway.

BPA are a BELT too.
This raises the question of how long does BELT status last for? Can a club ever gain non-league purity, free from the stain of BELT-ness?
Are the likes of Gainsborough, Glossop and Nelson still BELTS?

He always cheers against us (unless we play a belt of greater (?) status), and we were in the league for only three years

What is a BELT?

I know that it somehow connects to having former legendary football league brotherhood status but as we've not been car crash tinpot for long, I am unaccustomed to all this non league terminology.

I guess it depends on the level of bitterness. Some fans are more keen than others to remind you that they were once in the league. Some act like they've completely forgotten an entire decade in the league while others act like one season there in the sixties qualifies them for sleeping giant status.

Well we certainly won't be overtaking you any time soon! It would be nice to have some kind of derby, even if Carlisle is barely closer than Manchester in journey time.

Guessing Richie Bennett hasn't been a big hit so far? How we could have done with him in the early part of the season.

Our last two games have been away and I can't even bear to watch the highlights or participate in the threads, that dire have we been so I don't know how he's been in those but before then opinion was mixed. I liked what he'd been up to so far and felt it was only a bit of bad luck that he hadn't opened his account, HG felt he wasn't a league standard striker, other fans fell somewhere between those two extremes.

Would be nice to hear James Phillips and John Walsh having a bit of banter at least on the radio.
