Tough 1 for us, a lot ex Bury players in there squad. Though I think Riley will be ripped apart by Mayor. I predict Riley to be sent off. Hope we win but reckon a draw at worst for us.

Ideally its a game we need to be winning to have a decent season but it would be typical Bury for us to beat a good team 4-1 last weekend only to follow up with a dreadful performance and lose so I'm not taking anything for granted.

Hopefully we'll start with 4-4-2 again and probably the same team again as I don't think any of the injured players are anywhere near back yet!

Would have taken 4 points from Oldham and Bury back to back away games so no problem with a draw here.

A very much deserved win yesterday after a late Mayor goal got us the 3 points. The opening 30 minutes were very mundane and boring, then all of a sudden it sprung into life. A foul on Mellis sparked a 20 man brawl (think only the keepers didn't get involved) and the referee who was beyond poor for both teams didn't seem to have any motivation to stop it and it went on for a couple of minutes. When that stopped it seemed Vaughan and El Abd were the two culprits and were both booked. literally 5 minutes later Vaughan was sent off for a 2nd booking after a foul on El Abd who made sure he made a meal of the challenge to make sure Vaughan was booked again. To me if was a little harsh but because it was straight after the previous incident it made the referees decision easier. There were a few half chances but we went into HT at 0-0.

Before HT had even started there was another brawl in the tunnel with a lot of players and even our chairman trying to break it up. No confirmed reports as to what started it but rumours are that Vaughan was waiting for El Abd - very stupid if true and will probably get an extended ban if the 4th official saw it.

So the 2nd half started and we started much brighter than Shrewsbury and it looked as if they were down to 10 men not us.. Well them having a 1 man advantage didn't last long as Danny Mayor ran at their defence El Abd cynically chopped him down and huge roars went up as we all knew what was coming next. As El Abd pretended to be injured he was shown a 2nd yellow and finally a red followed and he was off. This lifted the crowd and not much later Danny Mayor cut in from the left and let one fly from 25 yrds and it hit the top corner of the net. We then looked comfortable limiting them to pot shots and not much else. Maybe we were too comfortable and from a high lingering cross their forward out jumped the keeper and our RB and bundled the ball into the net. An undeserved equaliser but an equaliser non the the less and Shrewsbury had the upper hand now.

For whatever reason though they decided to sit back and let us pressure them with them occasionally trying to hit us on the break. Then when it looked like it was going to end up as a draw a nice little move between our midfield and forwards found Mayor in the box again and he did a nice turn and smashed it in to the net 2-1 with just injury time to go.

Shrewsbury look devoid of much quality and resorted to fouls and dirty tactics a lot of the time and it eventually backfired on them with El Abd costing them the game with his stupidity. He has some hatred towards us now even though he won promotion with us he and Flicroft had a run in last season and also in this game. No one knows whats happened though.

I await our annual beating at their place as we always do.

Sadly not surprising to see normal service resumed from a Town viewpoint.

Mellon is under pressure now and a defeat at home against in form Scunthorpe next Saturday which, sadly with our awful home form, looks quite likely and the pressure will go up another notch or two.

I am on record, on a thread somewhere on here from around April/May, as saying Mellon should have gone at the end of last season. Nothing that has happened since, in terms of his transfer business, or his irritating ability to continually repeat the same mistakes from last season has done anything to change that view, in fact it has only strengthened it.

I don't expect to see him leave any time soon, but I have to think that a new manager with some organisational and tactical nous would give these players a far greater chance of success by avoiding the continual chopping and changing of tactics and formations that Mellon insists upon from game to game and often several times within a single game.

Hard to add anything T.A aside from that we missed two very good chances in the opening half hour and should IMO have gone in ahead.
I don't know if having Zeli on the pitch helps Mayor, but it has been like watching a different player so far this season.
