We've got more members of staff on the bench than first teamers tonight - first team coach Jamie McCombe, who hasn't played for about 3 years now, and Tom Shaw, who I reckon is our U18 coach. Rest of them are U18's.

Much stronger team from Mansfield, don’t expect us to go through tonight with our cup record.

Yeah it’s actually nearly full strength bar CJ and our goalkeeper basically.

I think he wants them to get some minutes due to our last game being postponed.

Oddly the lard have elected not to play Charlie Adam or Clucas in this one. Aspin going full squad as expected I guess.

Just under 8000 attendance expected. Shame.

Losing 1-0 at Newcastle u21's with a second string team. Can't say I'm too disappointed.

Popey loved that goal after his twitter spat! We’ve not really got out of first gear but when we do we are far superior.

Stoke fans trashing the place over an U23 game though... well they wanted it to be a derby I guess!

Oh for fuck sake we've gone an equalised and look like going to pens.

Hopefully I've just put the curse on that happening.

Fucking hell Northampton sort it out.

Edit: attendance 648 with 134 away, at least we're good at that bit.

Sure Jamie came on in the Mansfield game earlier this season in the same competition?

He definitely came on as a sub- I was there but can't think exactly which game it was -although can likely only have been Mansfield at home in Checktrade. as it was earlier in the season and definitely at home not away

That’s a brilliant attendance. Our last home game against them in October 2015 had a gate of 5,459 including 1,299 away. That was a Saturday.

More impressively, the gate the year before was 5,644 (1,084 away) on a Friday night. Tonight’s attendance just proves how unappealing this competition is to us and Northants.

Bury just missed a penalty against us.

Probably the first time ever I’ve been upset at Mansfield saving a penalty. Stupid cup

Job done. 4-0, first gear, Lardies trashing the place... no embarrassment glad it’s done with now to a real game at Morecambe Saturday.

Incredible to see the holders, the team that by definition took it the most seriously last year, trying to banter their way out of it today. Great stuff.

We lost to bury. Delighted

Mansfield obviously wouldn’t lose at home to bury in the league given we took the game seriously.

I wish Bury all the best in the cup, seriously, whoever gets to the final and embarrasses themselves go for it . No proper club would take enjoyment from winning this abortion of a cup

I have a scary feeling our name might be on this trophy this season.

In good news though, our attendance was a meagre 739 with 94 from Newport.

And we're out, good good. Given that we haven't won a game in the competition since Wembley it's INSANE we lasted this long.

Also glad we won't have to have the whole argument about real fans going or not going or whatever, or give Harvey and co any ammo with our unusually high attendances.

As with everyone else, I'm rooting for two u21 teams in the final because that would surely kill the format.

There is a big negative to two u21 teams in the final though - how much more difficult would it be for our clubs to get people through the turnstiles when it looks like we can't even beat Premier League kids - most of whom will end up at our level, and likely lower, in good time anyway.

In my view, the competition, whilst a farce, needs League 1 or 2 teams to keep stopping the u21 teams making the final in order to fend off talk of B teams in the Football League.

That's not that bad a boycott, if you drew them in the fa cup, vale park would be full, glad you won, would have been not good for football losing to your u21 rivals.
