Everyone, we won a home game last night!!!! Admittedly it was against Chelsea's kids but we won and I can't believe it.

Anyway, on to the much more important game this weekend. We're looking much stronger going forward although Reuben Reid finished the game limping last night (fuck knows why we risked him) and David Wheeler went off as a precaution following a knock, so I just hope they're ok for Saturday.

Law of averages says we will win a home league game some time, so I am hopeful it will come on Saturday and I will predict 3-1 to us.

Cambridge have picked up lately and they have some dangerous players. Particularly Mingoia who was superb against us last season. Assume Corr is injured so not worried about him. Will also be nice to see James Dunne back the park.

Our goals will come from Reid x 2 and Watkins. Ikpeazu from United.

Crowd of 3699 and 210 away fans.

Everyone's sussed out the way we play by now so if Tisdale does his homework you can take all 3 points never mind 1. See, Shaun Derry likes to play total football because he fears no one. We're always on the front foot so much so that our players tend to forget they've got to defend too. IOW, all Exeter have got to do is weather the inevitable storm and then hit us on the break. If only Derry realises there's no need to win every game 4 nil and that sometimes a narrow win or even a draw would suffice :ffs:

Seriously though, we're bore you all out of your skulls with 10 men behind the ball at all times, endless hoofing up field to no one in particular and hope for the best, which roughly translates to the ball striking Willo's arse and going in. After the inevitable defeat, he'll say in his post match interview what a great job Tisdale's doing at Exeter and that they're in a false position (he'll also inform us that he'll be joining him for a drink) and how L2 footy is all about the 'fine lines' whatever the fcuk that means. I only hope he's not alluding to cocaine.

2-0 to the Grecians, with a goal in each half, witnessed by :dk: home fans and 129 Amber army, and a meltdown on our forum to commence at roughly 3.25 PM.

This was the game I was most confident about this month, but that was whilst we were in the midst of a mental 3 (THREE! Mental) game winning streak and before we returned to our previous ways in their entirety last Saturday. Having said that, if our strikers last weekend had been of Dog & Duck league standard then we'd have probably got something out of it, so if Uche, someone who looks like he might actually know what a goal is, plays some significant time we might still have a chance.

No Williamson please, I'd probably prefer not to play McGurk either as he's been a bit rubbish this month. Uche up top with Berry immediately behind him (get forward lad FFS), Dunne and Clark in central midfield. Scoreline............no idea, but probably 2 goals or fewer total.

Derry won't but we should go

Norris
Halliday, Legge, Roberts, Taylor
Dunne, Clark
Mingoia, Berry, Dunk
Ikpeazu

Still teetering on whether to go or not - probably not as there's plenty to get done this weekend that I can't keep putting off.

129 travelling is much more likely than 210 but I'll go with 139 in a 3,232 crowd.

We'll never manage a clean sheet so I'm hoping for a 1-1 but expecting a 3-1 leasson in passing football and wing play, with Simpson and Reid the beneficiaries. Should Tisdale leave Robbie on the bench and Reuben prove to be knackered, we might even have a chance of 3 points.

Well Simpson was injured the past two games and we've scored seven goals in since he's been out so hoping he won't be back Saturday!

He's a real tryer and he's lacked a true partner to play with but he's far from winning the SJP faithful around. Tisdale likes him though, so if he's fit he'll play.

Quite like the look of alans team, it's the best we can field at present but I'm not hopeful at getting a result with it though.

Derry is a good talker and I'm sure his man management is half decent but tactically he's fucking woeful.

Good luck to all those that travel, certainly not for me this one.

3-1 defeat with 3884 192 Amber army.

I remember everyone on this forum shitting themselves over how good Cambridge were going to be this season when they signed Mingoia.

At the time everyone expected Corr to be back. If we had Barry Corr fit from the start of the season I would expect us to be in a challenging position. We have two of the best wingers in the league for a forward like Corr, but unfortunately we have two good wingers but no strikers that suit there style of play.

I thought they had a really underwhelming summer personally even at the time, some of the signings suggested to me that they were struggling to free up funds with the high earning flops from last season still on the books.

Still, I expected them to do a lot better than they have so far, and no doubt they would have done had Corr been fit.

Looking forward to going today. Haven't been back at SJP since the Plymouth debacle; hopefully it'll be better than that.

Didn't go but the radio commentary sounded a lot more positive today. Good win that.

Definitely not a good win, is it. We haven't won a home game in the league all season. We've now lost 6 and drawn 1 of our 7 games at home. You should liken today to if your first team were playing and ended up beating your clubs under 16 side. You wouldn't say "good win", you'd shrug your shoulders and be like "fair enough".

We're the gift the keeps on giving.

If it wasn't my club, I'd have to laugh, it's so bad....Sadly, this is going to continue whilst that clown is in charge. Matt Oakley should have retired 4 years ago and he now resembles an overweight person who's won a competition to play a game of football.

Simpson is just, well, terrible. The whole thing is a shambles.

Cambridge were poor but we made it so easy for them. Ikpeazu is a handful and Mingoia is dangerous but we should be competing and not gifting goals.

Seriously depressing being a City fan.

Really? A Cambridge fan who was at the match said this on our forum, and I quote - Very impressive and the best we've played all season.

I think we might as well give up now then if that's the best we've played and yet we were still poor.

I can't speak for Laker, but afaic, today was indeed a good win. Our last game was a dismal home performance, a 1-0 loss to Grimsby, while you lot were thumping Barnet 4-1. The fact that we never win down at yours is another reason, in fact I can't even remember when our last win at SJP was.

For what it's worth, and trust me, I know that it is annoying when opposition fans say this after your team has just beaten them and it comes across as sour grapes, but I actually thought Cambridge were terrible. Probably the worst side I've seen this season and in truth, if you were playing any of the other 90 teams in the football league today as opposed to us you probably would have been beaten.

I do like Cambridge though, good club.

We were comfortably the better team until we took Uche off, after that we panicked and gifted a way back into it, and they probably should have equalised, but no doubt we deserved the win.

Reality is we're about 15th/16th good enough without Baz and we'll generally beat the teams worse than us (Newport, Yeovil, Exeter) and struggle against the rest.

I tend to agree with GOG....your boys didn't look too good but you didn't have to be any good as we were utterly dreadful. I thought Mingoia was played too wide, and think that had he had a no10 role he would have had a field day. Ikpeazu definitely gave you a focal point and it was noticeable when he went off that we had it easier in defence. Damage already done by that point.

Your squad has some balance to it though and I suspect a decent manager would get you up around the top 10 whereas we've signed some of the worst players ever...

Lloyd James has been awful and I expect you saw Robbie Simpson's better days as he's been a cart horse since he arrived.

Robbie Simpson saved our club from oblivion so he will always go down as a hero in the history of Cambridge United. Some fans love him so much that they have been asking why we let him go?

IMHO his legs have gone but technically he's still good. At this level that's not good enough and conference is probably his level now.

As for the first goal, if our GK and CB gave it the handshake and stroll back to my goal after that cock up I would be livid. Exeter are a good club but I fear for them this season.

I'm sure clubs will be circling for Watkins in Jan too.

The White Pelé seems to get a few goals and more opportunities like this most seasons. He tends to approach the keeper or dithering defender (Carlisle last season stands out) with an expectation that he might win the ball, rather than going through the motions.

If fairness, I wasn't there to see it;)

I do wonder how any side has managed to lose 4-1 to us this season though:pond:

He works hard but he doesn't keep the ball and always seems to foul his defender. I think Conference is probably his level but you can clearly see that his confidence is shot to pieces.

Agree with the handshake thing, couldn't believe that when I saw it back on the highlights. The mixup was even more embarrassing than I remembered it to be....Sunday league standard.

As for Watkins he's shown flashes this season but is no where near ready for a step up. Think there was an element of him believing his own hype in the summer.....

He works hard but quickly got labelled the 70 minute man by a lot of people who sit near me. His fitness just isn't what it used to be. I love Robbie for what he done at our club but I think it was his best offer on the table and wants one last pay day before going into full time setting up his own business.

As for Watkins, I'd take him in a heartbeat but no doubt bigger and better clubs will be in for him.
