Dover v Southend is a strange pick, I can only assume that they view a Dover win as very likely given how poor Southend are right now.

Chippenham and Maidenhead can consider themselves unlucky, those would be TV games in most other years. I assume BT are unwilling to go for us after our dreadful performance against Portsmouth at this stage last year

Yes, that's us. We were locked out for 9 months, during which time we got promoted, then since we returned home on Boxing Day we've had several 3,000+ crowds for bog standard mid-table league matches with hundreds locked out on a couple of occasions. I assume this game will be all-ticket and segregated, which only happened once last season when we played Woking. Official capacity is 3,400 but will probably be lower with segregation and other special arrangements.

Random facts: we play in pink and navy blue, and manager Gavin Rose is Rio Ferdinand's best mate after they grew up on the same estate in Peckham and were teammates at West Ham up to youth level. Rio occasionally turns up with his kids to watch a game and does stuff like presenting the end of season awards for our academy team.

You're getting crowds that can challenge ours, this will be an interesting coming together of a club on the way up and another on the way down.

The big difference is that we're at full capacity a lot of the time and with only 500 seats and limited terracing/cover It's a very basic ground well short of the Football League standard. Due to the ongoing ground ownership issues we can't do much to improve it. I know you played at St Albans, who are in our division, a few years back and that's got much better terracing.

If we had the capacity I believe we could be potentially as big as AFC Wimbledon.

I'm surprised they've gone for exclusively non-league sides hosting league sides, usually they pick at least one game where two League One sides clash with the expectation of it being a bigger overall draw, I thought Ipswich v Lincoln was nailed on; one of the biggest teams in the competition at this stage versus one of the most popular FA cup stories of recent years. After Pompey and Oxford's games there's probably not a lot to choose between the remaining non-league v league encounters.

Or Sunderland v Gillingham, or Bolton v Plymouth. I'm sure they don't normally go exclusively for non-league home clubs.

Right now they're coming up against decent L1 clubs week in week out, and Dover are nowhere near that level. In fact I reckon Dover are way below L2 standard as well, seeing that the conference is no longer as strong as it once was.

Dover knocked us out of the cup a few years ago when Gary Lineker was filming his FA Cup documentary in our relegation season. I don't know if they've caused any other upsets since then, but it was only 4 years ago, so that could be a reason they were picked.

I think it's cos Sol has rocked up more than anything else and as you say they are firm favourites to win.

As another Southend fan on this site said, there's abysmal form and then there's us. Right now the surprise would be seeing Southend win. Campbell has Ipswich and Sunderland to see what the hell he makes of our lot before Dover so I'm not expecting the form to get any better.

Shame Matt Rhead has gone, would have been nice to give the fat cheat some pelters, but at least king of banter Alan Julian is still there which should be fun. Ipswich v Lincoln doesn't have much interest with them being in the same division, I would think they would want to see grounds close to capacity too.
