Think James and Chilwell are long term injured, and I seem to remember Christensen hobbling off the other night aswell. Werner if fit I reckon starts against us 100%…
Ah fair enough. Flash scores has Mendy as international duty, Chilwell, James, Christensen, Chalobah and Loftus Cheek as injured with Werner off with COVID.

Liverpool was a 2 legged tie

I bunked off school to go to Anfield on the coach from the Racecourse (what a pub that could have been for the new ground if it could have hung on a bit longer).

Bolton away was the best game of the cup run for me, even better than the semi. People forget they were running away with the Championship at the time, no one expected us to win and we completely bossed them for an hour or so.

You're right though, we haven't had many games as big as this for a while. Derby away in the cup is probably the most recent.
Showing my age, was born in 91 so way before my time!!

Yeh I went to Derby and Ipswich which were both good days out, but this is another level really. Love the build up too it, seems like everyone I know is going or trying to get a ticket to go!

It’s nice to finally be able to enjoy the build up to this game now that we’ve got those potential ‘banana skin’ league games out the way that could have been affected had we taken our eye off the ball and focused on Chelsea away too early. Turns out we’ve managed to take 7 pts out of 9 which included a tough away game at Grimsby and crucial top of table game vs Halifax… got to be pleased with that!

I’ve seen a few people on our message board suggesting we should rest some key players to save them for the league games which I think is absolutely ridiculous… imagine sitting Tshimanga down and telling him he’s not starting at Stamford Bridge cos we need to save him for Maidenhead… (a game that isn’t played until 10 days after the cup game either!!)

My line up would be:

Loach
Grimes - Gunning - Whittle
King - Oyeleke - Weston - Miller
Kellerman - Khan
Tshimanga

Subs:
Minter
Kerr
Croll (if fit)
Maguire (if fit)
McCourt
Mandeville
Payne
Tyson
Asante

I wouldn’t be against playing two upfront and putting Asante up there with Tshimanga, which would mean one of Khan / Kellerman dropping out the XI.

Reality is we’re likely to get a pasting, but I hope we go there and give the best account of ourselves that we possibly can!! Come out of it unscathed injury wise and with a respectable score line (anything under 6 ) and I’ll take that all day long!! Roll on Saturday..
Some of those tits on BB are mental if they think we shouldnt take this seriously. We don't play again in the league for 10 days. Let's go for it and get done 8-0 if we have too.

Whilst we’re on the topic of Bobs Board… who do we think ‘The whistler’ is?

I know we’ve mentioned it before on here but I’m now absolutely certain that it is Asante’s agent. Every single post he makes he refers back to Asante and he was also providing us with updates on his fitnes/rehab throughout his 9 months out. It’s either his agent or a family member. He even gave Rowe a bit of slack for not bringing Asante in earlier against KL

Chesterfield fans, keep believing, on the day anything can happen in 11 v 11, on this night we survived an onslaught before this happened:

Bit left field this but few names you'd expect to definitely feature

Interesting read. Not many names I know in the potential x11. Kids + a few ‘stars’ is probably accurate though.

The massive clubs usually start weak but have ridiculous benches for ties like this in case it’s going wrong, I think. Remember us taking City to a replay under Mancini and in the second tie at their place we were already 3-0 down or something and they decided to give Tevez a run out.

Christ, just looked it up for old time’s sake, City’s team that day was Hart, Richards, Zabaleta, K Toure, Lescott, Kolarov, Vieira, Y Toure, Silva, Dzeko and Balotelli. Up against Ricky Ravenhill, Craig Westcarr and Karl Hawley. That’s just bullying.

In our mauling at Chelsea their bench was full of kids and Lampard still brought two of them on in the second half given how much they were already battering us.

Scollari (spelling...CBA) put out a full first team in our 1 all draw at the Bridge, with a mixture on the bench, including Lee Sawyer, who had been on loan with us earlier in the season and came back to us the season after.

When we went 1 up in the replay, the chant "sacked in the morning! You're getting sacked in the morning!" was a moment
behold lol.

I was right in line with it sat just above Kirkland’s right hand post, seemed to go in in slow motion then cue absolute carnage. :D

Right let’s have a crack at Chelsea’s XI for Saturday then…

Bettenelli (GK)
Mbuyamba - Azpilicueta - Sarr
Simons - Barkley - Loftus Cheek - Hall
Hudson Odoi - Werner - Ziyech

Ziyech played a lot of the game last night but has missed last few games so reckon Tuchel will play him for fitness. Couple of youngsters in there aswell at wingback as per Derbyshire Times article on how they reckon they’ll line up

Jesus if they play that front 3 we are in for an absolute battering.

I’m hopeful for a team full of kids and maybe a Ross Barkley dropped in there.

This was their line up last season in the 3rd round against Morecambe… I ain’t expecting them to play too many kids if that’s anything to go off

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Kepa plays against you. Mendy has just gone to Afcon so he'll need minutes. Slightly different for a goalkeeper but match sharpness could still be a factor

Chelsea tend to play pretty strong line-ups at all stages in both cups, which is the one thing I find admirable about them.

Timo Werner might even score a goal for once….nah, just kidding!

IMO, Kiddy have a really good chance against Reading.

When they hammered us the other year they changed all 11 players from their previous league game, but that still left them with a 57M playing up front against us.

And to be fair he was shite that night too.

You’re joking, Timo Werner will need about 15 chances just to put one in, the mans about as clinical as Matt Green.

Timo Werner needs sticking into row Z early doors by Gunning otherwise it’s curtains. In reality it’s surely a minimum 4 goal handicap here. 4-0 to the champions of Europe would be pretty respectable given the gulf in class. That being said I do think we will score. There is VAR so if I were Rowe I’d be telling Jeff King, Calvin Miller and Tshimanga to go over at every opportunity. Set plays and a lucky penalty are probably our most likely routes to a goal.

I will be there at the Bridge on Saturday and surely Chesterfield will be better than those from N17 last night and make more noise too.

LuKaku and Timo will start for sure, but with a number of injuries and Covid in the Chelsea ranks, I‘d expect quite a few of the academy boys to play.

Lukaku‘s first touch is simply awful.

He's in trouble there then t'old Romelu, as Gavin Gunning has the first touch of a prime Pirlo

Well Bournemouth might well be playing some reserves against us but we're really struggling. Darren Sarll has said this morning “We’ve had a bad week of COVID cases. Yesterday it was only 12 available but we’re hopeful to have more by Saturday.”
