We've loaned Adam Thompson to Barnet for the rest of the season, good signing for them at that level. Very good squad player for us last season.

Injuries in the end ruined his career here, not played for us for nine months. Was told he had to have one of his fingers amputated after an accident in the gym last year which also set him back - I am unable to confirm this though...........

This leads me to believe we may be able to bring one more in now that someone has been moved out.

With the greatest of respect, I hope you, Pompey and Derby go up this season. When you can afford to have strikers for a rainy day and splashing 750k on one, it just shows what we're up against. This isn't division 3 normality and without you 3 it feels like it would be a bit more of a level playing field....a bit like when we were last in this league in 2016 when Gillingham, Burton, Scunthorpe and Walsall were all in the top 10. Perhaps the only team then to be classed as too big for that level was Sheffield United at that time.
The problem is they will be replaced by possibly QPR or Huddersfield and Wednesday, with maybe Wrexham coming up. All of which will outbid the likes of you and us. And that's without Wigan, Reading etc sorting themselves out.
We will always be closer to the bottom than the top of the spending league, its just how it is
(Unless you get Robbie splashing the cash..)

(Obviously it’s not a given we’ll even be in L1 next season, but…)

QPR I think are enough of a shitshow that they’ll create their own distractions.

Rotherham are of course an L1 staple so nothing to be feared.

We’ve got a fucking dreadful record v Hudds so don’t want them back, but whatevs.

The Wrexham party will of course be moderately infuriating, but in fairness they’ve had so many years in the wilderness that I don’t begrudge them having their time in the sun.

You'd hope that Wigan and Reading will go back to sustainable league 1 levels of spending after their recent issues. They're both historically not that big clubs (attendances probably over inflated by their stints in the Premier League). QPR are all over the place and I'm not sure they've got much of a budget. Huddersfield also traditionally not that big a club, so again they might actually not have a huge budget. Stockport and Wrexham will probably have bigger ones. Rotherham again are a league 1 sized club. The only tricky club would be Wednesday but they tend to have a shit show for a couple of seasons before they get their act together.

Even though some of those clubs would undoubtedly have a bigger budget than us, it feels like we'd be more on a par size wise. Derby get 3 times our crowds and they're in the same league...it's ridiculous!

Still think those clubs will be handing out long deals to players on big contracts. Even Reading were giving out long deals last Summer as soon as they could. They will all see League One as beneath them and will spend to the hilt to get back to the Championship.

So you sign another one?

I dont think they see it as below them. All clubs are down here for a reason........Mainly they have overspent or run badly in the past ie Us, Derby, Portsmouth, Wigan and Reading.
What do you see as spending to the hilt if the Collins deal goes through it will the biggest deal in the last ten years at 750k.
The facts are it costs 2m a year just to pay utility bills on our stadium and away followings of 150 dont help.
The Championship is certainly not the answer it is the most toxic league in the world.
Until football sorts it self out financially you will see two/three basket case clubs dropping down into this league every season

Yeah Reading in the summer showed that clubs don't always learn their lesson. Also even if historically they aren't massive or successful clubs younger parts of Reading and Wigan's support will think Championship or even Premier League football is the norm, and will expect that. They'll expect busy big signings and everything else they got used to whilst up there.

For example if Brentford or Swansea ever mess up, there'll be plenty of supporters who would have only seen them Premier League or Championship and will be expecting that. If Luton stay in the Premier league long their younger support will quickly become self entitled too, though I remember a fair few of them had a decent amount of entitlement back in the conference and League 2 days.

Curtis Thompson is going to Grimsby.

The lad is class but, because of his constant niggles, he's probably 6th choice in midfield now, and likely to be one of our highest earners.

He's only been here a few months, but I certainly wish him all the best.

Oliver Burke linked with a move to Vale on X along with Lopata from Barnsley... can't see either but the fun begins!

yea but three cannot hit a barn door
Which ones? Because imo Vic is our best finisher and we don’t get him in the right areas enough because he’s supporting Dion. I think Vic would score more than Dion if we got him into the box. Vic avgs 1.3 shots per game, Dion 3. Dion has 13 goals, Vic has 8 and doesn’t take pens.

I don’t think bodvarsson is a bad finisher either but again we don’t get him in the right positions in the box. He runs the channels.

A lot of our front players and even midfielders are pretty selfish. The number of times we can have a cut back and easy tap in and they go alone.. Dion and Maghoma are shocking for it.

I’d play Collins with Vic but that may divide opinion.

Collins has had more shots and shots on target than Devante Cole this season and only scored 3 goals. He misses soooo many one on ones and goes to ground very easy which the refs never buy.

I think we will want him as the slightly deeper more creative one of our front 2 when he plays. But it will be interesting to see whether that improves. He’s still got 8/9 assists this season. So 11/12 goal contributions in 23 starts which is still decent.

He clearly had a very good spell before that too. I’ve seen a lot reasons as to why he went off the boil including being shoved out wide, the contract offer being rescinded by chairman’s son and the captaincy issue. Maybe he just needs a fresh start?

I suppose the question is.. are you happy with 750k? Unsure on the structure but it will probably be incentive based with the way we normally do it. Probably 5-600k guaranteed. ?

yeah, we'd have never let him go were it not for the injury record.

In other news, without question the BIGGEST signing of the entire transfer window is Kyle Hudlin to Burton.

(because he's 6ft 9)

Yes im very happy with £750k and I think most gasheads are (as long as we use it get someone else in).
I think you are right he just needs a new start, although he did take a long time to get going with us so will be interesting to see how he does up there.

Owen Moxon signed 3 1/2 year deal. no clue on fee. Very good window for us. Probably a striker light, but i'd expect Australia to be knocked out tomorrow by South Korea so Yengi should be back early next week

Biggest signing under Evo/Sharon by far on paper, hopefully we've picked him up at the right time like we did with Dion & can get him thriving again. Looked like a boring window up until a few days ago with Evo saying "our #1 targets" take time but he's actually delivered them with Ogbeta/Ramsay/Collins so buzzing with the business we've done. Think the only player we wanted who we missed out on was a CB at Reading from what's been thrown out there.
