I’m guessing (have ignored the said users posts), that a Bolton player in the same position would be worth circa £60-£100m?

Ryan Lowe wants 2 more. A striker and probably a central midfielder, given we seemed to be in for James Jones last week.

We're apparently being linked with a loan for Kyle Joseph from Swansea.

Scored 5 in 12 for Wigan last season (although a hat-trick in one game). Thoughts SMH?
Fantastic young talent, another one of the youth cup quarter final alumni. However, I said at the time he'd made a mistake going to Swansea this summer instead of staying here. The fact that he's being shipped off to you within a couple of months only exacerbates that. I would be very disappointed in his agent/advisers right now if I were him.

In other news and a contender for strangest League One transfer rumour of the summer, we've apparently made a £1.2m bid for some 20 year old Turkish second division player. Never heard of him in my life, must be one of those football manager "wonderkids". Safe to say that one should be taken with a serious pinch of salt!

Charlton have signed Elliott Lee from us on loan. Not really been in the picture since we got promoted but was a big part of us winning the league a few years back playing as a genuine number 10. For a little spell in that season between September and Christmas he was absolutely top draw. Never quite hit that form again but a decent, technically proficient player who really likes cutting in from the left hand channel and having a shot. Seemed to have a reasonable spell at Oxford last season.

Pretty sure he is in the last year of his contract so similar to Shinnie going there last year, available on a permanent should it be desired I suspect.

no if Bolton had Tozer he would be worth the same maybe 100k
If you knew the slightest thing about Tozer and Cheltenham its that he is the main reason they won the league last season.
Without him they will struggle this season

We are still after a striker, winger and a keeper I believe with only a few days to go. Sounding as if they will be loans from higher up the chain, possiby from the decent links MA and co seem to have with a few clubs.

Don't listen to the Bolton fool - he knows less about Cheltenham than I do about quantum physics.

If Tozer goes, we'll be much the same but without a long throw. Contrary to popular belief, the long throw was not the sole reason we got promoted, it was just a good headline. No-one mentions the fact we had the best defence in League 2 (which Tozer was a part of, but easily replaceable) and that was with an extremely dodgy keeper (as Lincoln are finding out), or that goals came from throughout the team and not just headers at the near post.

We'll have as much chance of surviving with or without Ben Tozer.

Does that mean I want him to go, absolutely not, but the day Ben Tozer is the sole reason a team stays in League 1 is the day everything I touch turns to gold.

We need a RCB, Winger/attacking midfielder a another forward by Tuesday. Anyone want to take Ellis Harrison off our hands so we can buy some players.

We need a striker and a winger but unless someone takes Bogle and Ed Williams off our hands we are stuffed

Signed Tom Bayliss on loan, so that's midfield covered now. Need a centre back plus a full back and that'll probably be us done.

Sounds like you're in need of one, Joe Rafferty....

Get him quick before a queue forms.

Joe Raff was a decently competent full back in L1 for Dale. About twice a season a really good winger would tear him a new one, but the other 40 odd games would be OK. I was surprised when Preston came in for him tbh, but unless they've totally ruined him he should be OK at L1 level.

He'll be fine in L1. Out of his depth at this level though and he's a crap footballer, frustratingly so. Occasionally though, he'll put in a steady, no nonsense game, but anyone with pace kills him.

Not sure doubling an original bid is going to be a particularly astute transfer model, especially when offering those players involved a three year deal towards the ends of their careers. Despite being very very well off these gentlemen don’t have bottomless pockets.

I can see the Wrexham Reynolds being more of a Crawley than a Lincoln or Luton.
Hope you don't mind me butting in here.

I'd wager that our current method of signing players is purely a means of getting out of non league. We have the revenue stream through our increased ST sales and shirt sponsors to afford these signings so why not? The owners said their first short term aim was to do exactly this.

I'm sure you're all well versed on how the funding game changes once a club is in the football league so this is an important short term aim. Our method of recruitment will likely alter if we become established once again in the league but for now it's a necessary evil.

Callum Johnson looks set to go to Fleetwood on loan. Decent RB, good crosser of the ball.

Tozer to Wrexham all but confirmed for £200k.

For a 31 year old in the last year of his deal, we've basically pulled their pants down. Fair play if they're happy to spend it.

He'll be tough to replace, but he will be replaced.

We've signed 18 yo keeper Mackenzie Chapman who left or was released from Oldham. I assume he'll be our 3rd keeper/u21 squad.

What’s 200k nowadays? Can you replace him with that? Or do you already have the replacements in the squad? I can’t say I watched a huge amount of Cheltenham games so you’ll know better than me?

In the games against us last season we were petrified of that long throw. We played a 6ft5 cb at left back who can’t actually kick a football just to combat it. People change their game plans just to deal with it… it’s an incredible asset to be losing for only 200k. You pinned us in all game at your place with it. Assuming you’ve done the same with other teams. I know it’s not your only attacking asset but no other team has a throw like that for sure

I have to say I’m with Masi on this one ref Tozer going. Cheltenham got promoted off the back of a very solid defence and those long throws. The strikers done ok but none of them scored more than 10. I can see them struggling now.

200k is very good business given his age and contract situation but I think the disruption will be too much for them so close to the window closing and bigger clubs desperate for top center backs.

Rumours on Twitter (cos I’m the least “in the know” football fan on the planet) that Shaun Macdonald is now leaving after signing in the summer.

I think we’d have made a good Netflix documentary this summer.

I think that’s a good deal for Cheltenham. £200k for a centre back at his age and with a year on his contract is very good and they had an excellent defensive unit alongside him last year - he was one cog in a machine.

What is the reason of Macdonald maybe leaving Crewe. Just seems odd because you signed Tommie Hoban in the summer and he retired without playing a game.

Well he’s not been very good since he came, which won’t help. Definitely not filled the Paul Green, old head & instant captain material that we were hoping and expecting. He’s probably been the poorest midfielder in an absolutely woeful midfield.

Twitterati seem to be hinting him leaving helps get Tom Lowery re-signed. Not sure how, Artell says Lowery’s agent has his knickers in a twist over the release fee clause and Lowery’s parents are siding with the agent. I guess if we were to use Macdonald’s wages to fund a sweetener for Lowery... maybe? Dunno, TNO or Pies may have more of an idea.

Basically I wouldn’t lose sleep over Macdonald going. Lowery being back in the team could potentially keep us up.

Biggest shambles of a summer since England’s own Steve Holland (bless him) mis-spent £1million on the likes of Calvin Zola, Anthony Elding and Joel Grant.

Agree with others about Ben Tozer, in his 30s, year left on his contract, and they’ve sold him for 200k? It’d seem stupid to reject that to be honest. He could even have a poor season and end up valued at a quarter of that in January, from other clubs perspectives of course.

Adequate defenders are fairly easy to come by in L1 & 2, which with all respect to Cheltenham, should be fine for them, given they are trying to stay up. Okay they won’t be amazing, but take Lloyd Jones for example. I didn’t really rate him here, he got relegated with us to L2, yet he was fine for Cambridge the other week when we played them.
