I think we’re edging away from here. However, we’ve got a very hard month ahead of us. Positions of next few teams we play: 15th, 6th, 5th, 24th, 1st, 2nd. We also are winless in 5 away games, Macc are improving and we’ve got the Palace away game in the middle of all that. If we can get through that month with 7-8 points, I’ll be very pleased. This current home form might just save us!

Grimsby will be fine! As will Cheltenham. At the moment looks like it’s between us, Macc and Cambridge for the two slots, although I fancy Crawley to get dragged into it...

Yeovil seem more likely to drop in although think they’ve injuries due back.

In 2012 we had over 30 points at this stage of the season. After beating Vale on NYD we didn't win again all season and went down.

Alot can change and teams can free fall from mid table.

I remember York doing something similar back around 2004 as well, it can easily happen.

Big game for you and county on Boxing day

We'd just taken Bolton to a replay in the FA Cup, the year Owen Coyle took them down.

Massive on Wednesday, but confident. If we can start being more clinical with our chances we will win a fair few games. Defensively the improvement is drastic.

Indeed massive Dan , makes scarily exciting . If Notts lose this at home to the only side below them in the league which would then send us rock bottom on Boxing Day after the last awful away day hammering we will need a magician to turn this sinking ship around .

Based on very little more than historical facts I have faith in Ardley , he’s our only hope , he’s our last hope and if we can avoid defeat here I am hopefully but not confident of a New Years recovery .

More than ever the first goal will be huge in this Boxing Day bonanza

If Notts go down they'll have the unwelcome distinction of being the first founder member of the league to suffer relegation from it since Stoke in 1918.

Without being negative I'd take a point from your place. We need consistent points on the board and I'd fancy us to beat Tranmere and Swindon at home.

To be 3rd bottom after these games would be awesome, but to be within a 3 point margin would still be a platform.

Going back to 2002/3 when the Conference playoffs were introduced, 24 of the teams promoted from non-league are still league teams, while only 8 are back in non-league (and that includes Barnet twice, so only 7 really).

Four of the six teams promoted between 97 and 2002 went back down soon after they were promoted. Halifax, Kidderminster, Rushden and Diamonds and Boston and the other two, Macclesfield and Cheltenham have both spent some time back down in non-league.

Before then, there was a spate of teams promoted between 87 and 93 who had staying power, which includes Colchester, Lincoln and Wycombe. Outside those dates, teams weren't promoted due to not meeting ground regulations.

Thanks Shoddy that proves my point. You've described the situation much better than I did and that Grimsby poster is wrong. I'm going to leave it at that as I don't believe there's any mileage in arguing with an idiot.

Is Durrell injured again? I couldn't see him in your matchday squad on Saturday. I think you'll soon be moving up the table. Good luck over the festive period.

The playoffs were a great thing to have for the conference. Did you win it the season Hereford got like 100 points and still didn’t go up? (Wrexham got 99 and didn’t).

For a lot of clubs going down to the conference is actually a good thing (whereas Stockport York Darlington fans might not agree). As you’ve often rooted out the problem which caused you to go down in the first place and you come back stronger.

I really like the system they’ve got in place for the conference and north/south with the rugby league style playoff system, keeps teams included longer.

Yeah, Hereford nicked ahead of us, pushing us down to third late on. Barnet were in the division when we were there so we were never going to win it.

We're a prime example of what Adam says. We rooted out the problems we had back in '05, namely unrest in the boardroom and a squad made up mostly of shite players, and now we have unrest in the boardroom and a squad full of shite players.

We then decided to go up, and around this time back in 2013 we were top of the Connie, and now we're 22nd in L2. Hold on, give me a sec while I work it out......erm top of the connie = 93, 22nd in L2 = 90......eh yeah right, 93 minus 90 = a massive 3 places better off in 5 years!!!

Well clubs should learn their lesson, should.

You’re a better club than how you’re being ran now, we’re ran a million times better than before we went down, and I view being a non-league team as being a real bonus for us, we’ve benefitted in the long run.

Weren’t Lincoln virtually safe the year they went down under Holdsworth but then won one of their last 15, or something?

Our lot are getting very twitchy, and some of the signs aren’t great, but the truth is there’s a long way to go yet, and a full transfer window. Lose on Boxing Day though and the alarms bells will be ringing louder than ever.

Lost 9 and drew 1 of our last 10 games to go down under Steve Tilson, not Holdsworth.

Holdsworth managed them (in a loose sense) in the conference, as he did us. There were about 4 new players a game, it was like every game was the first game of the season as you had no clue who anyone is.

As for you boys, your managerial appointment is sound, ardley is a good manager and you’ve appointed him at the right time to give him time on who’s good and who isn’t and what he needs in January.

On the other hand, our other friends chesterfield maintained steadfastly that they’d stop up and would turn it around, and never did.

Your problem is hardy. I don’t doubt that his hearts in the right place, it’s just slightly misguided. If he can butt out of things and leave ardley be you’ll be fine.

No doubt about it if Notts go down it will the the lowest of many low points in our long and proud history . Maybe it’s our time , our turn to go non league like so many in this league have already done before .

I know Adam, I was merely taking the piss out of the club I follow. You're right in saying that a good number of clubs are better run nowadays after spending time in NL, whether it be 1, 5 or 10 years. Thing is that some, like the useless amateurs that are calling the shots at Camb U, seemingly do not.

But yeah, a good number of clubs really do learn. Take you lot for example, you've been on the up (or at least, consolidating your position) ever since you got back in the FL, with, if I remember correctly just the one season where there was the possibility of going back down again. That season when Burton won the league I think it was.

We did nearly mess it up, it was between us Cheltenham and tranmere to go down, we beat tranmere 1-0 late on in the season.

Both those sides also came back up

They say you can go down and come back stronger, others say it’s what the club needed, so there is always that

Cambridge and Daggers ran it fairly close too, which on this forum made for a very lively relegation thread.

I honestly didn't remember it being more than a 3 horse-race. All 3 of us deserved to go down, although Hartlepool's great escape was fantastic.
