It's obviously Brett Angell.

Blast from the past... Swindon technically owe a lot to him as his short time at Vale saw him take on young Billy Paynter under his wing and made him a decent young striker!

A few clubs have been put off as the former Cambridge, Villa and Norwich veteran is apparently demanding a release clause that allows him time off to promote The Dube and to gig with Ocean Colour Scene if opportunities arise.

That news could start a bidding war.
:lol::lol: YES!

Paynter was class for us 09/10. He and Charlie Austin up front. Rivals Parkin and Mooney for the best I've seen at Swindon.

Shame he went to Leeds, was all downhill after that.

He was decent for us as a kid... the Mooney and Parkin side and that great 3-3 clash with one of the great Vale partnerships post millennium of Brooker and McPhee with Paynter sometimes joining as a 3.

Good times... typically as we sit here bemoaning away form it was away form which cost us a play off spot that year in League One!

Rose could still leave yet.

Rumours we are in for a defender due to being unable to field one on the bench against Macclesfield.

Hopefully Matt Preston is back from his concussion soon, it’s been two weeks! Mirfin/Diamond not be back until at least Christmas.

Vale in talks with Ben Whitfield who’s now a free agent, deal hoped for the end of the week.

Signed young left back Nathan McGinley from Middlesborough on loan til Jan when he'll sign a permanent deal
ETA looking thru Wycombe forum where he was on loan last season seems a mixed bag of views on the lad but I'll one-eyed take the positives

All good news until you realise Aspins probably going stick him at left back or something...

Definitely in favour of signing him though and hope we can get something done.

He seemed to be angling a move back liking everyone’s tweets and things.

He has a lot of things we’ve missed, pace, few goals, an outlet and can be played wide. Would be a decent signing and the potential to make us money in the future if we can get him consistent.

Apparently Whitfield has agreed a deal and will be ours by the end of the week.

Definitely happy with that as he’s exactly what we’ve been missing so far.

Some great names thrown about, apparently it's now a medical tomorrow.

The player has scored against Cheltenham and also previously commanded a fee in excess of £1m...

Tyrone Barnett is the name doing the rounds - I was excited this morning, not so much now.

That performance against Luton... with better players can we unlock that level more often. If it wasn’t for him of course with the ten man winner against Chesterfield we’d be playing Solihull and Harrogate this season.

Be chuffed! Howkins might be less likely now as he played for WBA last night, although guess less important now Legge has gone from looking dud to super human beast the last three games.

Sounds like Tyrone. Been with our youths since the summer. Really disappointing signing in the end for us and looked lazy, lethargic and scored twice all season (actually scored more times against us than for us!) one of those was against Newcastle kids too!

He actually turned down moves to National League North level on transfer deadline day.

I dare say he will become a goal machine though now! Just hasn’t worked out with us.

It smacks of desperation, like the season we were relegated.

We have this habit of signing players who a few years ago played really well against us. We did it with Shaun Harrad in the relegation season, Paul Benson two years before that, etc, etc...

You never know, we’ve signed some players who were duds elsewhere and have been great for us (JMW, Vincent, Griffith) but he’s not likely to replace Eisa for sure. He’s actually played centre half for the reserves much of the second half of last season!

Whitfield was the difference in staying up or going down last season. Without him we would have gone. I welcome his return.

Interesting that two of those players you mentioned were minor failures at Cheltenham.

We've signed LB Kevin O'Connor from Preston on loan until January.

Finally have a left footed LB but looks like he's coming off an injury lay off too...

Potentially signing another player too by Friday's deadline. My guess is it'll be a winger rather than a midfield replacement for the unfortunate Paul Green.

Tyrone Barnett confirmed for Cheltenham. Can't decide whether he just didn't try for us or whether he was *that* bad. In his defence he got very little service and I'm not sure what his role was ever supposed to be given he's never going to knock Pope out if the side, but nevertheless he was utterly useless for us regardless of the reasons.

Thats good news for us. There is possibly a decent player in there somewhere, but it just didn't work out here.

Assume they pay his wages now so we have a couple of days now to use the wage...

Where do I start ? Bone idle, lazy, disinterested, disastrous signing by Michael Brown.
The fact only 2 National League North teams were interested spoke volumes.
However no doubt he will score against us unless we put in one of the daft clause's where he can't play.

Surely will have a clause in but knowing us!

FGR have apparently rejected £800k from a Championship Club for Doige.

Will need to be more than that for them to sell given what he gives the team and the cost of relegation.

Let’s hope there’s no clause, would be like playing 10 men from the start. Who knows maybe a fresh start will fire some life into Barnett but given he’s already moved clubs countless times in his career I doubt it.

He has scored about 3 in his last 60 odd games, nearly as bad as Berahino.
Barnett is a spent force, absolutely astonished he has stayed in League football.
