If he is knowingly knackered then perhaps he is willing to play for a massively reduced salary. I'm sure he'll be fine for you as lower league defenders go. I'll be watching with a bit of interest.

He was a steady Eddy type.
6/10 to 7/10 every week. Seemed better away from home because when he crossed the halfway line he was clueless on the rare occasions we attacked !

In fairness I believe he is a centre half played out of position so harsh to be critical.

Our fans are pretty much like me, if he signs then he's a useful addition.
If he doesn't then I won't lose any sleep either.

At Vale for literally 3 seasons we have made do with a left back who really is a centre half.
Personally I'd like to see an actual left back play at left back and not simply make do.

Apparently Colchester are his other option. His agent happens to be an ex Vale player who played 300 odd times for us and does radio commentary on some games.

You'd anticipate it's cut and dried knowing that but let's see.

Pretty much this, some fans are being harsh on him as he is only a young lad and has development potential.

Sam Hornby, goalkeeper for Port Vale. Two year deal, we’re really splashing the cash this summer, all the big names.

hes a very decent keeper if your main keeper gets injured

Wasn't getting a look in with Browny our number 1 so makes sense for him to look for game time. As you say decent enough.

Never let us down . Very unfortunate to have the best Vale keeper for a few years in front of him .

Let's face it the Bradford bench and wages will be better than the Vale bench and wages.

Good luck to the lad, decent prospect, needs one of those twists of fate where the number one gets injured and he won't look back.

As previously I'm ok with his signing.
Slotted in well and especially away looked very solid.
Good addition

Yep, if we can get a natural left back or Clarke stays also it will be better as we can mix and match then how we want to do it.

Need a keeper too now of course as a number 2!

Mither Askey didn't need. Usually like Martin, Johnson, Boot we've promoted from within.
Not many want to come as a second string keeper

Barely played for us but through no fault of his own. Bit annoying that we now have to find another number two, but good luck to lad, it's a great move for him especially if he can compete to be first choice.

On the few occasions he played here, we had him in one of the FB positions (can't recall whether he came here as a RB or LB).

Crookes confirmed on a two year deal.

One or two poor performances but generally impressed with what I saw from him. There wasn't a whole lot wrong defensively last season (15 clean sheets I think?) so it's a case of small improvements there and concentrating on making our midfield and forward play more effective.

Happy with the signing.

As I said previously, keep the back five pretty much the same we will be ok defensively. Its then just the attack and midfield that need improving.

Defensively still need a full back and a centre half or two mind as think we've pretty much got Gibbons - Smith - Legge - Crookes as our only defensive option now haven't we?

Whilst I get he wants to be closer to his missus, it seems like a bit of a backwards career move, no offence to Crawley. He couldn't have found a team in that area with better prospects than them? Wimbledon, Gillingham, Wycombe? Fair enough.

Him and Palmer upfront should score some goals next season to be fair.

Crawley had a decent enough budget last season apparently, they just didn't replace Kewell very well.

Maybe now Cioffi knows the league they'll do better now.

Crawley are pretty isolated geographically among lower-league teams, probably more so when you factor in travelling times on the M25. Those other teams you mention may well have been fine for him location wise, but it's a fairly small selection and if none of the others are in the market for a pacy striker then Crawley it is.

They've given him a three year deal too, so they probably do have ability to offer more than most. We only ever seem to offer players one year deals these days. Even Devitt at the height of his career is only being offered a one year deal (which he won't sign but that's by-the-by)

Also Carlisle

We've been linked with signing Jermaine Beckford, or Swindon have been linked with signing all of Carlisle United?

I know which one sounds more believable to me.

Beckford looking to roll back the years at the ground he scored his first ever senior goal? Swindon contacting our squad en-masse and telling them they'll double wages for all of them?
