Mark Ellis signs a contract extension for next season meaning we now have 5 centre backs all more than capable of playing league 2 football. Wouldn't be surprised to see George Ray or Sid Nelson leave.

Saw that on an ex-players thread on our forum and they noted he'd only played a couple of times, back up then?

Did his ACL and only came back a few games before lockdown. Played three games, we won all three and he scored twice.

Needless to say I'm delighted:lol:

Fair enough, I'll take all of that on board and add it to the dossier I have been compiling on all L2 clubs finances. However, I will say there's no way you won the Conference with a sustainable budget. I'm definitely not accepting that. You always seem to pull a banger of a signing off in January, I think that's why I'm always a bit skeptical about your financial situation. Why can't we do this with an average crowd of consistently 1,000 to 2,000 more? Perhaps your budget is managed better, or your higher earners perform better but I'm not convinced that can be the case every season, especially since we're penny pinching nowadays.

The Conference point is good - it's common knowledge that season was shit or bust for us. Had we not gone up then there was legitimate talk of having to go part-time the following season (or certainly not far down the line).

We've been quite lucky in the transfer market since then as well. Eisa netted us over a million in the end (and could still net us more I believe), Marlon Pack to Cardiff from Bristol City also netted us a decent amount. We've also made some money out of youth players going elsewhere (Luke Thomas for example, who again netted us more when moving from Derby to Barnsley) - not to the extent that Exeter have, for example, but enough to tick over.

I'm no finance expert, I hasten to add, and it's possible our whole club is built on sand, but the noises to tend stick to the cautious or on the basis of lucky deals. Holman for example was a loan in the Conference and then a free transfer once promotion was gained.

Litttle old Cheltenham". Personally I like that way. I remember playing Baldock Town and Sudbury Town in the Beazer Homes League.

I still have nightmares about the 1-5 loss at Town Mead. Not happy about the 2-0 loss at Whaddon Road with that goal from 40 yards.

Don't forget Burton Albion either. Although they had to move to the NPL to get promoted.

Just been informed that our manager has never met or spoken to Filipe Morais. He is still under contract at Crawley for another season but it seems he is not around the club.

He did say he wanted to move back north to be near his family which makes me wonder if he is hanging around one of his old clubs, Bolton, Bradford or Oldham?

Please let it be Ray.

He got a cruciate injury in the league game v your side last spring and only returned to match fitness early this year. Played the last 3 games which we won and bagged a couple of goals. Likely starter.

We haven't signed many players. All 7 offered deals renewed remember. That core of the squad would have seen us promoted last year if not for the pandemic. So we're in a good spot where the core of our squad were fully signed up before the pay cap so their costs aren't counted 100% due to that previous signing loophole thing, freeing us up to spend a bit on the 3/4 additions we need to gun for automatic places.

There's also a 5% allowance on the cap before you start getting taxed by the EFL, that's £75,000 on an enforced £1.5m budget, which goes a long way in getting a deal over the line.

We're doing well man. Our owners are incredible. They've spent quite a lot on all the areas neglected under Scumtwat but we were actually turning a profit not long after they took over, despite those massive necessary outgoings. That's how well they've ramped up commercial revenue. (Also helps there isn't loose cash everywhere anymore and the club shop no longer being skimmed off into a separate business...)

There's an insurance business on Vale's doorstep that turned over £50m in the 2018 accounts. Owner is a Vale fan. He wanted nothing to do with Smugtwat, since Carol came in he's pouring investment in. As I type the roof of the bycars stand opposite of the away end is getting painted right this second ready for the Autonet insurance advertising board to go up.

The club have cooked up and distributed about 125,000 free meals by now, plus food parcels, for the vulnerable in the local area affected by CV19 shielding, food poverty, etc.

Did you know scumtwat had our players eating left over pies? The fat fucking pig.

The players have their own chef now who travels away on the team bus to cook pre and post match nutrition.

There's a great team spirit from the top down, all the players say in interviews that it's a completely different club to what it was. The damage of the last 20 years is being righted and we're on our way back, and by fuck do we deserve it after what we've endured. It's a great time to be a Vale fan and it's a great time for a player to sign for Vale. Particularly one that lives 30 minutes down the A500 like Nicky Maynard, who has the benefit of knowing Popey and his game, and is joining a club on the way back up.
Mansfield mk 2 then

Couple of Vale fans on twitter reckon it's between us and them for Maynard but Vale's offer is much better. Its the first time his name has been mentioned with us so I'm not sure how legit this might be.

I love these posts about how fantastic a club is from top to bottom and how the corporate side has never been better etc etc. You'd have to be a proper nutter to write it and believe it (in a good way)

Blackpool fans seem baffled that they’ve let him go out on loan and saw him as their best left wing back/winger. Sounds positive!

It depends who and what you want to believe really, doesn’t it. Some ITK rumours suggest that we’ve spent just over 2/3 of our budget, with McCall hinting that we’re in the market for a RB and a striker. If that’s true, we could be planning on spending a hefty chunk on wages given we’ll have just over £9k per week left over for two players.

For what it’s worth, I can’t see him coming.

Time will tell I suppose. If it does happen then you’ve got a brilliant striker on your hands.

Not quite sure the motive of a Colchester fan starting this rumour. We haven't a prayer of attracting Norwood to sign for us, and I very much doubt that we have even enquired about him.

Yeah very odd that a lurking Colchester fan on your forum has started that rumour! If I saw him leaving Ipswich then it would most likely be to the North West to a Blackpool or Fleetwood as he loves it up here. He has family down near Ipswich hence his current club but a Yorkshire move wouldn’t appear to make too much sense. Time will tell I suppose!

Really liked him when he was here, and looked to have all the qualities to make it at Derby. Very much a wing-back rather than a defender, he was good running with the ball and had a decent cross from what I remember.
