Colclough's lack of discipline and poor life choices has clearly cost him a more promising career. Several brushes with the law, hung around with a bunch of rum lads from Fegg Hayes that weren't the best of influences on him and lacked professionalism early in his career. Luckily for him, Parky at Alty saved his career from the scrapheap. I'm pleased for him that he's continued to prosper at Chesterfield but I'm not sure he's changed much away from football myself.

I really liked him with us years ago but he was often injured or "injured". When he played he was excellent. I seem to remember him being our best player in a game but because he told Steve Davis to foxtrot oscar in game then he got hooked and dropped for a bit. Got to the point where Davis couldn't control him so he offered him to clubs and Wigan paid us a fair whack for him once you added on the promotion bonus money they had to pay us.

Edit: Just discovered he's banned from the Isle of Man until 2027 after engaging in another scrap with a bouncer back in 2022. The boy will just sadly never learn...

Very good player but can't get a full season out of him. Would be disappointed to see him go elsewhere but he's on a very high wage so not the end of the world.

Our best player in my opinion. Instead of the duds Patrick and Gibson we sent you, you would be getting a cracking player.
Due to his all action style and love of 'getting stuck in' he does sadly pick up his fair share of injuries

Not sure I'd trust that account mate, he's spent the last 12 months winding us up on our Twitter hashtag. He's a good player but has featured in only around 50% of the games he is available. Incredibly injury prone. A 3 year contract would be a huge mistake from any club IMO.

Greg Abbott is our Head of recruitment, yes that is embarrassing in itself and all he knows are players in the Yorkshire area particularly Bradford.

So he's the reason we're always linked with your players as he can't be arsed to expand his scouting network beyond there and he doesn't have a clue how data works.

Regards to Jamie Walker - very good player!

Goals and assists aplenty. One of the best numbers tens in League Two. Gets himself sent off due to picking up silly yellows. Misses 2-3 months per season due to injuries and suspension. Would I love him to stay? Absolutely! He’s quality.

In other news, Ash Taylor appears to have been told to find a new club. Guessing he’ll go back up to Scotland, where he seems to fair quite well.

He has lost parts of the fanbase and getting slated for frankly only signing players from Yorkshire or especially Bradford with injury records……to start the summer with that ‘exact’ same type of signing is just going to lead to a lot of grumbling.

And by that I do t mean he could be a poor signing, but when your trying to show intent to your fanbase this summer of progress it’s just highlighting nothing has changed which will increase the complaints.

He averages 33 games per season for us. Most of his injuries come from fully fledged tackles - as opposed to being ‘injury prone’.

He’s managed to feature in almost 400 games. At the age of 30, that wouldn’t strike me as injury prone.

Madden is still a good player, McGoldrick was for us but not so much by January. When your legs to its impossible to be as good as you were and Madden could do another season or be shot it by September, you never quite know.
I don't think Stockport have released a single player over the last couple of seasons who's gone on to better things, they've usually wrung the best out of them and they go sideways or backwards. I'm hoping that the Croasdale rumour with us is untrue for that reason.

Top bloke and excellent player just had his time with us blighted by injury (still managed 88 apps and 21 goals which is pretty decent goal return for a CB) . If he can regain his fitness he would be a great signing for any L2 team.

Yeah he was good in League 2 for us. I’d take him back providing his injury woes are behind him.

I'm not sure if this crazy confidence I'm seeing in us from the outside is reassuring or worrying. I reckon a playoff birth would be a really good achievement in our first season back, I'm certainly not expecting us to do a Stockport or Wrexham.

I do think confidence and momentum carried over from promotion means a lot. And I think Chesterfield have the benefit of a manager with experience of success at this level.

I think I put them at 12th on the prediction league. And that's mainly as they've retained more players than I expected (although I think a lot of that is just down to existing contracts). And I won't be surprised if they do better. With the right signings play offs should be in reach for them.

Good experienced manager, the bones of a decent team (particularly in attacking midfield positions, and especially adding Madden) From what I can tell although I only saw them a few times last season-they just need a first choice keeper and another striker to support Grigg. But they do also need an almost entirely new defence if they have their eyes on top 7.

Teams take their chances more at this level. Notts fans may testify to this. The league isn't miles better than the NL but you have to be on it more week after week, majority of teams are like playing a NL play off side (at least) every week. But then again, this means other teams around you drop points so it's important to stay level. headed.

Getting a better keeper helped a lot, also it took us a while to get our defensive mix right- you can't just use two/three big bastards in defence as attackers in L2 are generally quicker and punish mistakes more than in NL. Coming up against Eisa and Leko in our first game was a bit of a wake up call.

As you say the overall standard isn't massively different to NL (to the top half of NL at least) but it's slightly better in key areas.

I would say that at least in L2 you don't have to deal with some of the crappy away grounds and small pitches you get in L2 but even that's not true anymore.

I don't think that Williams would have taken us up, but him leaving was definitely a factor in our season going tits up. If Chesterfield start well is anyone coming in for Cook, or is he unfashionable/paid enough for Chesterfield to hold on all season if they're successful?

Totally agree he wouldn't but I was confident he would get us up in his second or at worse third season. He's too good not to from this level.

It was always a ticking time bomb with that defence. But I do feel like Williams leaving extinguished the last of the promotion momentum and made results harder to come by.

Cooks a bit like Parky, probably a bit too long in the tooth for a lot of clubs nowadays. And also probably isn't as bothered about proving himself higher up the pyramid. But you never know!

Yeah I fancy Chesterfield for a top 7 finish this season, although I fancied them for top 7 the last time they were in League 2 and they finished 24th.

Great times, especially considering our 1-0 win away to them so late in the season played a great part.
