Alex Woodyard and Conor Shaughnessy (on loan) to Luton? The latter recently signed a 4 year contract at Leeds.

Reliable source? I’ve seen them mentioned on Outlaws but I generally pay no attention to anything on there.

To contradict myself slightly from last week, if it got to the end of this window and Luton are still cracking on nicely, and let's be right, they will be, then his head might be turned now as opposed to in the summer. Luton are closer to home (apparently his missus isn't and hasn't looked to move up here with him) and I think he'd settle for moving mid-season to effectively guarantee himself L1 football next. He's a bit different to some players really because he's always said that he wants to take his football career league by league and not jump to high, so L1 is obviously the next logical step after doing NLS, NL and now L2.

Anyway, a rumoured 'Manic Monday' for us tomorrow, which is a good job because we currently don't have enough players for a squad for Tuesday's Checkatrade game at Rochdale!

I'd be amazed if we bid £400k for anyone while in League 2. I could definitely see us bidding £250k (we already bought two players for that ballpark this season after all). Who the fuck knows in these crazy transfer fee days though, we'd still be hugely in profit from fees this season so I guess it's not impossible.

Can't say I know much about him but as the McCormack gamble hasn't worked out and we have three other midfielders out of contract in the summer and none likely to be extended as they aren't good enough... a quality midfielder would make sense for us.

Were signing a striker from Derby tomorrow or Tuesday, I reckon it's Darren Bent*........ :2thumb:

*Or a very slight chance it's some kid no fuckers ever heard of.

What sort of player is Woodyard then? Box to box midfield player? Holding midfielder? Cant say I noticed him much in either game we have played this season

And that would push our spending over £1m on players this season.:£

Would be our highest fee paid since Adam Boyd. No pressure then.

Holding midfielder, links the play up, good tackler and passer. Doesn't score many.
Very good player but apparently doesn't like being up north....

Sounds like pretty much exactly what Luton need. Rea has done well in that role but he's needed at CB at the moment and there's no cover for him as holding mid with McCormack long term crocked.

And therein lies the beauty of Alex Woodyard.

Until you watch him over a period of consecutive games, you have no idea how good he is at what he does (in our system, anyway) and then you start to notice him more and realise he's everywhere.

Mirror reporting that Yates will be recalled and loaned to Scunthorpe, Post reporting that there’ll be no decision until Forest get a manager. Can see this dragging through January, but Yates is happily talking about who he wants in the fourth round draw and stuff on Twitter which is a good sign.

The good news is that all signs seem to be point towards Grant staying. Yates is fantastic but a defensive midfielder is replaceable, don’t know where you would even start with trying to replace a 20+ goal midfielder.

Either a big draw tonight or Bialkowski’s move to Palace going through (or both!) could have huge implications for our season.

Shamir Mullings will be available soon. We're in the process of sacking him apparently.

He's a big rangy striker who never scores.

I actually think that Yates' impact is often underrated. The amount of blocks he makes & interceptions he makes more than offsets his erratic distribution. Could Milsom come in and do as well? Probably - if he's fit, but what Milsom lacks is the physical presence that Yates brings. But as you say - how do you replace Grant? You can't simply. I do wonder if he'd be as effective in the Championship. There he isn't so pacey and his trickery isn't so exceptional. Where he does exceed is findings pockets of space which would still make him effective at that level, but you'd expect the better defenders to pick it up.

Jevani Brown linked with a move to a number of championship clubs. Hopefully we can hang on to him but it seems pretty unlikely he’ll be with us past the summer in any case http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/01/0...d-wednesday-reportedly-tracking-jevani-brown/

The most naturally gifted player I've seen at the Abbey for a long time. NEVER gives the ball away and it's no surprise clubs are looking at him.

Hopefully he'll sign a new deal and stay with us a bit longer but unlikely.

I remember him looking like Bambi on ice for Thamesmead a couple of seasons back.

I think Yates is either underrated or overrated and we won't know which until he goes. On the surface he's a mobile central midfielder who gets about and keeps it simple - if he was in his mid-twenties no one would be talking about him and we've had so many slow passengers over the years in that position it makes him look better.

Or he's actually integral and all those blocks and tackles are the incremental gains needed for us to win all those close games. Dunno.

That's probably his level, touch no where near good enough for the FL. Top lad though.

In other news we've also let Rhys Murphy go by mutual consent, looked good at the start of last season but fell out of favour and did fuck all on loan at Torquay, so no surprise he's gone.

That will be 7 out so far this window, with 5 already in and more to follow this week.

I think that Yates is a player who is being elevated by the way that we play being completely perfect for him. It’s not necessarily a terrible thing, but in a team who played through midfield rather than looked to work off second balls, I think he’d struggle.

Think you could say it about a few of our players actually. I’m not sure that Hewitt, Brisley, Hawkridge are good enough as individuals to be key players for a promotion chasing team, but they fit our system perfectly. It shows what an incredible job Nolan did in the summer.

Grant, however, I reckon you could happily parachute into any team in League One or League Two and he’d still be great, which is why he’s a mile ahead of anyone else we have and 99% of players in this league.

We're "...quite far down the line with a few of them." according to Cowley in his press conference today.

Pretty sure one will be Frecklington, if that one isn't done already.

The injuries wouldn't bother me too much. Marriott came here last season with a bad injury record but, aside from a freak landing in a reserve match, was fit all season andEardley signed this season having hardly played for the previous 2 years (managed to get Matt Rhead playing 55+ games a season as well).

to be fair Moyses managed to get 40 odd games out of Rhead by refusing to ever let him leave the pitch. :gr:

I reckon Woodyard owes us enough to stay until the end of the season. Would be leaving under a bit of a cloud, especially after all the outgoings we've had lately

On the Woodyard to Luton thing, our resident ‘ITK’ twitter bloke has said a bit. He reckons we are interested and have enquired however Lincoln’s asking price is higher than expected. He is generally spot on with our transfer deals and called Collins from the start and maintained it was on even when everyone else was saying he was off to Coventry, so there may be something in the Woodyard rumours.

He also says we are definitely looking for a centre back and are interested in Sonny Bradley again and Raggett. The latter would only be if Bradley didn’t come off as Jones would prefer a permanent deal to a loan. He’s said we offered something like 400k with add ons for Bradley in the summer, but Plymouth wanted 750k up front. With 6 months left on his contract there may be a deal to be done.

There have also been talks about Conor O’Shaughnessey from Leeds, presumably on a loan, doing the rounds but I’ve no idea where they’ve have from.

There’s also rumours that Leeds have bid £3million for Jack Marriott for whom we have a sell on of something like 20% which, along with a couple of departures such as Cook, McQuoid etc would finances our January spending without reducing he coffers.

So unless we drop our price he won't be joining you? We don't need to sell him as we don't need the cash.
So I guess the only way you'll get him is if he asks to leave.

Mate, I know nothing. The lad who tweeted its exact words were

‘Heard today that Alex Woodyard is on NJ's wanted list but Lincoln asking price higher than expected.’

When asked directly by someone said

‘Yeah I know he’s a target. Lincoln asking for a fair amount apparently so might be one to revisit in summer if we go up and they don’t.’
