probably been said on here many times, does anyone think the national league should know to be EFL League 3? or give more promotion places maybe 2 automatic spots and one playoff?

Nobody thought this when shite teams like Barrow were going for promotion.

I don't think the shite teams like Barrow are that shite anymore- yourselves and Sutton have adapted to L2 well. The National league is far more professional than it used to be and better a well run club comes up than a basket case club who finish 22nd every season cling on to their league status. I'm all for it moving to three up three down.

The danger is more tin pot financially doped teams coming up.... Cough.

I think pretty much everyone now agrees that it should be 3 up 3 down but will 75% of League 2 clubs ever vote for it?

Not a fucking chance.

Think 2 up 2 down is fair, And maybe playoff for the third slot.

It should be three up three down but never going to be EFL League Three. Nobody's going to vote to split the FL cash up even more.

Definatly should be 3 up, 3 down and if we are on the topic of sorting promotions and relegations the 4 up, 4 down between 1 & 2 should be standardised to 3 as well.

I might be a bit off with this but I think 18 of the current 24 in league two and 12/24 in League One have been promoted out of NL since re-election was binned. Given so many in the EFL have experience of the bottleneck of NL I'd be hopeful they'd not pull the ladder up. I know from experience that It only takes a few poor decisions and a team comfortable in League One finds themselves in NL in short order... I'd be hopeful that clubs vote to make things easier to return for if/when they drop.

Timing may seem sus as a fan of a team just relegated but I genuinely have argued for years that 3up/down should apply from Prem - NL.

Definitely 3 up and 3 down.

R&R say they'd back proposals for that, which is easy to do when you're loaded anyway I guess.

It should be 3 up 3 down, I think most people agree with that. But I wouldn’t call it League 3, it should not be part of the EFL while there is no financial fair play in that division.

Should be 2 up 2 down & 3rd bottom of League 2 plays 3rd top of the National in a play off, similar to the German model.
So then you only have three spots at the top of the NL that mean anything? You'd have dead rubbers at Christmas.

The NL playoffs are great, that model needs to be rolled out across the EFL.

You could give 3rd bottom in L2 the 7th placed playoff spot in the NL perhaps?

Id say go for elections again but none of you lot would vote for us anyway!

Seriously, there is a case for keeping a bottleneck to deliberately make it hard to get into the league. I can accept the reasoning.

Should be three and three though. So I would plump for the German model.

Yes to 3 up 3 down and yes to EFL League 3. Better governance of the National League is certainly needed and being part of the EFL would bring that, and it would bring all national leagues below the PL under one roof - the National League would then be when regional football starts.

The TV money paid to clubs in league 3 would be peanuts in the big scheme of things, and shouldn't have a material impact on the money that the other EFL leagues receive. It could be tied in with the new settlement between the PL and the EFL. I think we got in the region of £80k a year TV money in the National League.

There are only 18 teams in Bundesliga 2 though, so that playoff model is just about fine for that amount but really that's the absolute max you want. With 6 extra teams in the division that's a lot of teams with nothing to play for quite early on in the season.

That would effectively kill the play-off system though.
Playoffs have been brilliant at sustaining interest for mid table teams who have a chance of finishing seventh.

That's the thing, over half this division have been down to the NL so we may as well do the extra club to officially normalize it .

Time to pull the drawbridge up. No more promotion or relegation. Don’t want any non-league minnows polluting our glorious 92, do we brethren and sisters?

Once everyone is back where they belong we can pull the drawbridge up, there's still a lot of work to be done.

Fleetwood and FGR now being in disarray looks like a key milestone in restoring the Natural Order.

Agreed that the third promotion place should be a relegation/promotion affair and I like the idea of the 3rd bottom side being disadvantaged with 2 away ties. They'd REALLY have to earn that reprieve

I was pretty supportive of 3 up 3 down, but for some reason I’m starting to lean towards not changing it now. If anything I’d say 2 down is a bit much.

I think 3 up 3 down is fair but wouldn’t do the relegation against promotion play off. As other have said, the NL plays off work really well, but they when they brought in play offs in the 80s it was relegation v promotion games and there was a massive amount of violence. Appreciate that was different times but there are very different emotions when a team beats you to relegate you over 2 games compared to you being relegated over a season.
The NL model keeps so many teams and fans interested all season.

Lot of crap first legs in the EFL playoffs this season, this should have brought some momentum into bringing in a National League type system. Won‘t happen because a)the current playoff system has been in for over 30 years and b) they wouldn’t want to be seen taking ideas from the lower orders.

The only problem with league 2 is that it would bring 9th into play for promotion, but many would see that as a good thing.

First legs of double legs more often than not damp squibs. National League play offs are some of the best sporting chaos of the year.

I wouldn't increase the play off spots though I'd just do the semi's as one leg higher ranked team at home 4-7th still.

When we were down there, I was in favour of a L2 North/South merger, and I still would be. 5 tiers of national leagues is silly.

Just leave it as is, it can create a bottle neck but it’s those who are relegateds responsibility to get promoted. Last think we need is even more tinpot non league outfits like Bromley and Solihull, it’s bad enough now. League 2 to national league is about the only level that doesn’t have some sort of yo-yo effect so it’s doing something right.

The top 8 in the national league would compete in league two. An idea would be to make the football league 5 leagues of 20 and have 100 clubs in total. Negative to that is, 3 less home games for football league clubs, which would stretch funds even further. So for that reason it will not happen.

Bottom 4 apply for re-election so the northern and midlands mafia can vote for each other. When a tinpot M25 suburb team comes up for re-election, vote them out. We need to get Southport back in, and after a few seasons of extreme suffering we might vote Scunthorpe and Lindsay United back in as well.
