Premier League, Football League and Football Association have announced new rules to combat "intolerable behaviour" by players and managers.

The English football authorities say poor conduct has reached "unacceptable levels" over the past four seasons.

I can't see this causing any arguments...

  • An aggressive response to decisions
  • Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner
  • If a player confronts match officials and uses offensive, insulting....language.... towards them

Which bureaucrat fuckwit has come up with this nonsense.

Especially the behaviour of that tenacious Italian midfielder Frankie Valli during that Manchester Derby. Oh, what a night.

Trouble is don't we get this type of warning every Pre-season and actually when it comes to it the officials often bottle booking or even sending anyone off for dissent unless its really clear cut?|

If actually enforced the likes of Rooney would only play about 10 games a season!

  • A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official.
Let's face it, it'll always be the ginger kid that gets it.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Can you really picture Wayne Rooney getting sent off five minutes into the Premier League season for swearing? Not a chance.

as with everyone else, great to have the rules, but the refs will never inforce it. People would start complaining that the better players are getting sent off for nothing fouls.

I full endorse the rule changes, i hope they are correctly enforced.

Exactly my thoughts.

Sometimes I look in awe to Rugby when I see how they take the referees decisions. And these are Giants :D
I can't stand this gathering around the referee nearly after every decision (and I mean that generally not Premier League related)

That'll be the problem. There'll be some lad from Burnley sent off on the opening day and it'll all start to fall away when a couple of the big boys get away with it.

It they'll start to have appeals based on mitigation (ie the I hit him because I was really cross defence as used by Chelsea last season) and it'll all be too much hassle.

Stockport County.
Wasn't there a rule starting last season about retrospective diving punishments that everyone was buzzing about?

I didn't see it put into action once.

The thing is, if that did happen it would send out a clear message. And if they then consistently applied the same rules, regardless of the player in question, it would soon stop when they realise that calling the referee or assistant a useless c**t will result in both themselves and the team suffering. Something like this would definitely be good for the game. To touch on the rugby comparison, there is no reason that footballers can't have the same respect for the officials as they do. The mindset of the players just needs to be changed and the only way of doing that is for rules like this to be enforced properly.

There is no reason this couldn't be enforced if the officials have the balls to do it, and I hope they do.

You are right as you nearly always are. You're a great man and my offer still stands.

If by rugbification you mean more respect and less swearing at the officials then I don't agree. If by rugbification you mean picking up the ball and scoring a try inside the goal then I do.

Of course last summer the big rule change was regarding offside, and look how that turned out. An almighty cockup and a need to publicly clarify to all clubs and refs what the rule actually was (bitter much? )

There were already rules that gave refs the ability to caution and send off players being overly aggressive towards them, arguing too much, not showing proper conduct and respect etc. But they got ignored by players and were poorly enforced by refs. The rules can be tweaked any which way but if they aren't enforced, then what's the point.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you entirely. They haven't got the balls to do it, and do it consistently though.
