We really need a win to add to the three points from Saturday. We were poor at Wycombe but we got the result that we desperately needed. Hopefully some confidence has been installed into the players and we can go again at Newport.

My team:
Vickers
Hoyte Dembele Nelson Johnson
Sesay Champion
Vilhete Watson Gambin
Akinde

0-2 (Akinde, Gambin)

Hopefully it will not be another wasted trip.

One win doesn't change a thing, just as I said on Saturday. We. Are. Dogshit!

Really poor game.
We were fine until Hoyte got injured and then our lightweight midfield and immobile defence got overrun, badly need our regular full backs to get fit.

Watching a team rely on 40 yard throw ins to move the ball up the pitch is not good. Akindes second goal is a cracker and well worth a look.
Newport can feel a bit aggrieved to only get a draw despite their pen bring extremely soft and I thought they had scored in injury time to nick it, not sure how the ball didn't cross the line tbh.

He signed a three year contract with us during the summer so we've no need to sell him for substantially less and jeopardise our league status.

How much was it that you were prepared to sell Gambin for in the summer? Think it was Orient with the bid?

It was indeed Leyton Orient who tried to buy him and I think their bid was £100K -£150K. Luke didn't want to go there, which was what scuppered the deal. I think he's looking to leave us on a Bosman next summer and have a greater choice of clubs to pick from . By then, he'll be too old for us to receive any compensation. It seems that MA is punishing him and not making him a regular starter for refusing to go E10.

Bit harsh, considering the obvious mess that Orient seem to be in I'm not sure I'd be mad keen to go there either! MA used to punish players for weird stuff when he was with us as well though. Sometimes motivated them, towards the end it just pissed people off...

That's his schtick alright. I think he's just confusing a lot of our players now in all honesty.
The general view from our message board is that Luke is quite right to reject a move to Orient, that we don't care if he does leave on a free as we just want to see him play some matches and he might well do a lot better at a club that actually plays some football.

I'm pretty sure you don't have £750k to spare.
Actually, I was being a bit daft there.
The point I was making had nothing to do with the value of Akinde.
I was just thinking out loud that the difference in revenue in Leagues 1 & 2 is probably very little.
I should have realised that you were talking about the difference between League 2 and the Conference, which of course would be far more significant.
Oh, and I doubt we have £750 to spare let alone £750,000.
Personally I don't think he is worth that, even in today's market, but the value of a player to his club doesn't always bear any resemblance to his open market value.
Anyway, good luck for the season as I love Mad Dog, for all his faults.
He gave us one hell of a season which he will always be fondly remembered for down here.
