We all know Newport are expected to struggle this season but we rarely start with a win. I hope Murray goes for 2 up front rather than the isolated Green set-up. Unfortunately probably the latter so I'll go for a scrappy draw, 1-1.

Hoping for a win here, Newport are a bit unknown really but I haven't really seen much to say they will be up there.

3-1 Mansfield.

We can't possibly start out any worse than we did last season. Lots of movement in and out, and pre-season has been very hit and miss. I think we're going to struggle for goals this season so will take a 1-1 draw for the opener.

Green and Rose up front with Darius Henderson on the bench? My original 1-1 prediction may be a little pessimistic. Depends if we can gel this early.

I really hope this is what many people will think and hopefully we'll be able to shock a few from it haha.

You do realise that Rose and (particularly) Henderson are shite, right? Confused as to why Mansfield fans seem so overwhelmingly optimistic; the one player of yours I'd've wanted at Orient has left for better things. Have I missed a bunch of quality signings or something?

Ha. Just like the Grimsby fans. I make two posts (both involving your new signing who very recently played for Orient, on whom my opinion is 10x more relevant than yours, having actually seen him play) and I'm labelled obsessed... Oh well.

Think I've asked a pretty reasonable question. How have you improved from last season's good mid-table side? What have I missed? I'm genuinely interested. Try not to get too precious when/if you reply.

Ollie Palmer or Danny Rose? Hmm I know who I would have.

Neither, for preference. Then again, Ollie is fifth choice, so a comparison with your fifth choice striker would be fairer. Do you have one?

Yeah Zayn Hakeem, 17 year old bright talent. Still could find the net better than Palmer.

Danny Rose, Matt Green and Big D will be the top three scorers in this league, without a doubt.

On paper our squad is stronger than last season.

Rhys Bennett is a better option than him we had a right back after losing Hunt. I can't even remember his name he was that good. George Taft looks more than capable of replacing Taffazolli at the back and I'd say he's only dropped back into L2 due to having a serious injury which has kept him out a while.

Up top we've replaced Yusseff with Big D who's only going to be a 20/30 minute man and he's a better target man than anyone else we could of bought in and could be excellent for Green and Rose to play off.

Kevan Hurst looks a great addition in midfield, The quality of his delivery stands out and I'd imagine he will be on corners. The only thing I'm unsure on is Hemmings and Hamilton who have replaced Blair and Lambe. Not really seen Hemmings but I've seen Hamilton twice and he was gash on both occasions.

We'll need a lot of luck, We've not got a massive squad so we are relying on not picking up too many injuries and hopefully Murray being abit more positive in his approach at home. My prediction is 8th.

Let's be honest, calling Rose and Henderson 'Shite' is ridiculous and obviously over the top considering we are in League Two.

I'm not quite sure where you have this overwhelming optimism idea from, especially from this thread 7th/8th/9th are the most popular predictions on our own message board which would be a slight improvement on last season. Ironically the two players you called 'shite' are two players that clearly improve our squad from last season, have a look at our players last season in the striker department(Chris Beardsley, Adi Yussuf, Craig Westcarr)and compare it with Rose, Henderson, Hoban and I think that's a improvement clear as day.

I still have concerns, Tafazolli is a huge player to lose but I actually think we have recruited well in defense and it's midfield that worries me most and I think that is the area we are likely to lack quality, Chapman is a liability and i'm not too confident on the wingers. Anyway, I don't think it's unrealistic to think we can improve from last season but football can be a funny game.

Cheers Dickie. Had missed the Hurst signing - he's a good player at this level. Lost his way last season at Sarfend, but might be reinvigorated by a move. Should see you a little less pedestrian than last season at least.

Henderson really, really isn't a good target man, though. He is a static lump whom you are far better off playing it into his feet. The amount he loses in the air for a man his size is criminal.

Top draw bickering. Clearly there's a lot of jittery Mansfield and Leyton Orient fans out there because they both have us early on and we are such a massively unknown quantity with our inexperienced manager, bottom six budget and completely revamped squad. No need to argue between yourselves, focus upon the fear you have of us. Anything could happen. Anything. We may crush you like gnats in our march towards the play-offs.

Or ... I'd be happy with a couple of dour scoreless draws early doors as the team develops enough cohesion to scrape enough points to stay in this league for another year.

I'll take a 1-0 win tomorrow on a better pitch than the corresponding game last season when there was more sand than grass. This is what I'd take. Experience has taught me that this is not necessarily what I will get. One thing is certain ... the squad is stronger than Butcher's hastily compiled bunch of no hopers and we may not require the intervention of a Sheridanesque saviour this season.

Can't imagine the game being a high scoring one, we've not set anything alight pre-season and its seems neither have Newport.

We finished in a decent position last year, and whereas Id hardly say rose and Henderson are world beaters - it's an improvement upfront.

As said by others, with a little luck and more adventure at home, there's a chance we could nick a playoff spot

We are hoping to do what you did and go from relegation candidates one season to mid table security the next. With 14 new players honestly haven't got a clue how we'll do. Would probably take a draw today.

3-2, 93rd minute winner.

That'll do! Absolutely buzzing, great start!
