Totally forgot this match was on . Look forward to checking out both these major game changing incidents later .

Not surprised to see Notts County get not one but two mentions on this L2 play off semi final first leg thread between Newport County and Mansfield Town. Why wouldn’t you ? :ffs: No surprises who brought us up haha

At 1-1 , it has to be advantage Mansfield now . All the pre match talk of Newport’s pitch and the supposed huge advantage it gives them is gone now . The MK defeat and no show should now be pretty much forgotten and confidence should be high .

The only negative really for Mansfield is the large Field Mill crowd . They don’t like crowds in North Nottinghamshire but it’s advantage Mansfield for sure .

Given the ref last night I look forward to having an equally favourable home ref for sunday

The main decision on the game wasn’t the penalty it was the blatant red after 6 minutes. It’s hard to see how he produced a yellow tbh. Clear through on goal - past the last defender - no covering defender. It’s a disastrous decision

If the same passage had taken place after 70 minutes I think the ref would have produced a red card for that one.

The pitch looked in good condition considering how it has been before.

Newport are unbeaten in 11 and stags have not won in 4 - for me it’s 50/50 going into Sunday.

If Newport can hang on in there for 60 mins I’d expect them to sneak a winner late on. An early goal for the Stags will see out a comfortable win.

Red yes, pen no imo. But you can understand the ref not giving it that early. Shouldn't make a difference, but often does. If you're in the refs position you don't want to be wrongly sending someone off at that point, it's a game and possibly tie changing decision. Wrongly not sending him off has a smaller overall effect.

Either way mate, if we don’t go up we can fall back on the knowledge we’re a league club next season.

Maybe we can get the “big day” out in Nottingham if they earn the right to play us by winning in the regionalised 4th qualifying round of the fa cup

You mean like Mansfield not winning by 2 or 3?

Seen the highlights now , Logan pulled off some great saves .

In terms of the much discussed major incidents . I say , definite red card ( even if Keeper would probably get there but no guarantee ) the lad is clean through . And it’s a penalty .

A yellow card only is very harsh on Mansfield and a game changer . Great harassing of the ref after the foul .

Think it’s fair to feel pretty hard done by if you are a stags fan but going to Field Mill level is okay.

If we start like we did last night, and get that first goal I think we will finish them off but I worry about the players struggling with the pressure otherwise.

Michael Salisbury currently the referee allocated to the return leg. Not seen enough of him to know how he’ll do.

I’d go with red card and penalty for the two key decisions last night.

I've only seen the post on here regarding the pen, and it's easy to see why the ref has given it. Logan may well get a touch, but it really isn't much of one so the ref has a decision to make. That is on Logan, he didn't need to come out there and actually looks like he's trying to pull out, albeit far too late.

As someone else has said, if it was the other end Mansfield fans would have been apoplectic had it not been given.

I understand why he’s given the penalty, but he completely bottled that red card. It’s abysmal.

Agreed .

Seen worse decisions in a L2 play off semi final but the non-red card is a bit of a shocker !

Blatant red, however we are pretty awful at breaking teams down when they sit deep and defend so its by no means a given that the result would have been much different. It's never a pen and the ref has guessed but you can see why he has given it. At the time my stomach sank as it looked one in real time...Hard to see he got the ball. Onto the second leg!

That’s never a pen, striker gets a touch, then Logan palms it away, then they collide.

Ref had a shocker, I will take the point though. Newport is a tough place to go and we held up well to all the throw ins.

Ben Turner MOM for me, Walker led the line brilliantly, roll on Sunday!!!!

I'm sure you know, but neither Mansfield or Newport get any 'points' for last night's draw.

It was a clear red, and Mansfield can feel hard done to, however, I can see why the penalty was given. Logan made it easy for the referee to give it, although he did get a small touch on the ball. Some days they are given and some they aren't.

I didn't see the game, but did anything else happen in the match aside from a potential red card and contentious penalty given? It doesn't look like it reading the comments on the last 2 pages.

Someone on our forum posted some choice comments from Newport fans which make quite interesting reading -

Hand on heart, never have I seen such a more vile team play here.
All they did was cheat, bleat and apply the dark arts all game and Flitcroft has the nerve to moan about the referee - who was absolute awful.
I'm glad we got the penalty decision and their crap following were crying hard done by.
It was karma for their teams lack of class.
We were slow starting but outplayed them second half and that equaliser will have crushed them.
All to play for - glad they have written us off.

100% agreed. They did it in January and last season at ours. Their number 6 is a big lad but goes down like a hooker down the docks every time somebody is within a yard of him.

Horrible footballing side. Thugs, bullies and play acting and time wasting like like I've never seen before. Almost every clearance ball they were making a conscious effort to boot the ball out of the stadium to waste time. Watching the highlights we had some great chances to win that game. We have nothing to fear up there.

Sadly such cheating and lack of integrity from both players and managers often gains rewards because of referees' lack of the b**** to penalise it.

They certainly went down very easily but were quick with a very "robust" challenge.
Lots of moaning, the importance of the game doesn't make for a beautiful game but they were constantly trying to con the officials in my opinion.

Flitcroft and his brother played that way also, disgrace to the game with their play-acting and bad sportsmanship. He was bombed out of Swinetown and had a big budget at Mansfield this year and really should've got them promoted automatically with the quality loanees (Walker and Grant) he's had this season.

Disgusting side , and up there with Lincoln when it comes to getting away with murder.

I always see them as the worst team in the league for this kind of thing.

What a horrific team in terms of fair play

How strange. I know we aren't angels but just looked like two battling teams to me.

I know we all are biased against our own teams but that's on another level of craziness. Cannot really recall any timewasting or playacting yesterday from anyone other than Amond trying to win a penalty in the first half. As for 'thugs'? From the thuggish team who fractured our strikers jaw in 2 places last time we played them? Cute.

Seemed a keen, even, fairly contested game to me.

So if the final is Mansfield v FGR then, according to Newport andTranny fans, we should be in for a treat of diving, cheating and thugishness.

Fred West v Harold Shipman.
